I know chapters have been extremely short recently and I feel really bad about it. I promise that the chapters will get longer soon, but for now I'll just update quickly until they begin to reach 3,000 or so words again.
Chapter 18
The Doctor kind of like Craig. He was a nice guy.
After all, the Doctor had barged into his house, and had been here for a few days. He had also just rescued Craig from the upstairs room. Oo, so scary.
He looked around Craig's kitchen. On the wall, there was a picture of a single, wilting, Rose. The Doctor suddenly felt so much sadness that he couldn't keep back a cry of absolute misery.
"Are you alright mate?" Craig asked him, stepping into the kitchen.
The Doctor was bent over, gripping the edge of the chair so tightly his knuckles were white. He felt the tears slipping down his cheeks.
"Um…" Craig said.
He slowly stood to face Craig. He wiped his eyes and smacked a smile onto his face. He didn't even know why he was so sad. "Yeah, amazing, great, just peachy."
The Doctor walked into the other room, trying very hard to hold in the tears that didn't make any sense.
Rose had gotten into a routine over the past few days. It went something like: wake up, eat breakfast, visit with Wolf, anticipate absolute pain, realize pain isn't coming, skip lunch, visit more, eat dinner, shower, sit by the fire, sleep, and repeat.
It was actually quite nice; not having to feel like her life was in danger every day. But every second of every minute of every hour of every day Rose missed the Doctor. She wanted to go back. As someone once said- someone she had hated at the time but didn't anymore- "one can tolerate the demons for the sake of an angel."
Rose actually admired Reinette's choice of words.
Rose was pouring herself a cup of tea when she felt the pain, worse than before. She dropped the cup and it shattered, splashing scalding hot tea all over Rose. She stumbled over to her bed, but collapsed before she could make it.
"Rose!" Wolf burst into her room. "It's happening. You're leaving! This is it!"
Rose grit her teeth and crawled over to her bed. She lied down on it and Wolf knelt down next to her. "This is going to hurt, and it will hurt even after you leave. The place you will end up is random, and you will have to find someone to help you find the Doctor."
Rose stared up into Wolf's eyes as she placed her fingers on Rose's temples. "Sorry."
Rose's head exploded, well, metaphorically. It hurt so much, and she started screaming. Wolf started flickering in front of her eyes. Suddenly Wolf disappeared and Rose felt herself being pulled off the bed before she passed out.
Rose woke up on the floor in a room that seemed eerily familiar. There was a door on the other side of the room. Rose stood up and fumbled with the doorknob. The door swung open. Inside there was a bathroom with a mirror. Rose looked at herself in the mirror.
He clothes were torn in different places. Her hair was a rat's nest and she was covered in soot and dirt. She had no idea where the soot came from.
Rose ran her fingers through her hair trying to tame the wild mass. After her hair was decent, she checked if the sink was working.
Of course it wasn't. She tried her best to brush all the soot and dirt off of herself, but there was still quite a bit left.
Rose looked around the room again and suddenly realized where he was. Rose had appeared in her old room in the Powell Estate.
Rose glanced out the window. It was dark, most likely around midnight.
Suddenly there was a knock on her door. Who would be knocking on the door of an abandoned room? Rose looked around for something to defend herself with, but there was nothing.
She cautiously approached the door. She unlocked it and, very slowly, opened it. Standing outside of the door was none other than the Captain Jack Harkness.
She threw the door open. "Rosie!" Jack yelled, sweeping her up into his arms.
"Jack… what? How?" Rose asked.
"Rose, I know this doesn't make a lot of sense, but I know exactly what's going to happen. But you have to trust me right now and wait for some answers." Jack told her gently.
"Jack…?"
Jack put his arms around Rose as she began to sway on her feet. "I'll explain this all when you wake up, but it may take a while."
Rose's eyes felt heavy. "Jack, what?"
"Sh…"
Rose's vision went black and she collapsed into Jack's arms.
Jack sighed and looked behind him. "Ok you can come out, she's asleep."
A woman with curly hair stepped out of the shadows. Jack didn't exactly trust this woman, but she knew the Doctor, and she knew Rose. Though, she did claim that Rose hadn't met her yet. "Time travel" She had said "is a messy business. Things don't always happen in the right order."
The woman smiled at Rose, who was unconscious and lying in Jack's arms.
"Well, hello sweetie." River Song whispered to Rose. "Long time no see."
