Sadly, I do not watch Torchwood, so don't get mad at me if I mess with the arrangement of things.
There is going to be a lot of switching POV'S in this chapter, but you know how the Pandorica Opens is.
It's probably the most confusing episode in all of Doctor Who history.
Chapter 19
River and Jack stared down at the unconscious body of Rose Tyler. They were in the Torchwood Hub, and Rose was lying on a cot in the medical examination room.
She had been unconscious for a day.
"So, you know Rose." Jack said. It wasn't a question.
"Yes, but she doesn't know me yet." River said, looking at Rose sadly. Jack had been avoiding this conversation ever since they brought Rose in yesterday, but he knew he couldn't put it off forever.
"Who is she to you?" Jack whispered.
River glanced at him and smiled slyly. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Try me."
River just shook her head. "Spoilers."
Jack sighed. That seemed to be River's favorite word. Jack looked at the screen that was monitoring Rose's heartbeat.
Well, hearts-beat.
River had explained to him that for Rose to survive being pulled out of the void, she couldn't remain human. So now Rose was apparently part TARDIS part Time Lady.
He didn't know if she could regenerate, or if she would just come back like he did. Maybe she would regenerate and not change what she looks like.
"Does she… does she regenerate?" Jack asked hesitantly.
River smiled at him. "Spoilers."
Jack sighed in exasperation. Was River going to tell him anything?
Rose stirred in her sleep and Jack was by her side in split second.
"Rose? Rosie?" He whispered as she slowly opened her eyes. "Hey sleepy head."
Rose groaned. "I hurt everywhere."
River smiled. "I would think so. You just did the impossible."
Rose looked over Jack's shoulder to find a woman standing there. "Who… who're you?"
The woman looked hurt, and very sad, for a split second before pasting a smile onto her face. But Rose caught that look, that little flash of sadness. Rose had seen that look before.
She hid behind a mask too.
The woman smiled and held her hand out. "River Song."
Rose took it. "Rose Tyler."
River smiled at her and helped Rose off the bed. She grabbed Rose right before she collapsed.
"I can't feel my legs." She mumbled.
Jack stood on the other side of Rose and helped her stand. They all made their way over to a few chairs. Rose sat down and leaned back.
"Rose, you know what happened, don't you?" Jack asked gently.
"Yes." She growled. "I was shot by a Silurian warrior, died, was erased from existence, crawled out of Hell itself, and then met the Bad Wolf."
Jack looked surprised for a second. "No, I mean…"
River interrupted him. "He means, did the Bad Wolf tell you about the thing she would have to do for you to escape the void."
Rose could feel the realization creep into her eyes. Very slowly, she brought one hand up to the left side of her chest, and then the other hand to the right side.
Two hearts.
Rose began to breathe heavily, and Jack put his arm around her. "Are you alright?"
Rose smiled at him. "I'm absolutely fantastic!"
River and Jack smiled.
Rose looked at them both. "It's like… it's like my mind is so much larger. I can think faster than I was ever able to!"
"That would be the Time Lady part." River told her.
Rose smiled, but then frowned. "The Doctor. Where's the Doctor?"
Rose had just realized he wasn't there. She really wanted to see him. After all, she had seen those cracks before. They had them back in the parallel universe. Maybe she could help the Doctor with them.
"He's out." River said simply. Rose locked eyes with the curly haired woman, and River seemed to realize exactly what had happened.
"You know what those cracks do." River breathed.
Rose just nodded, and then put her face in her hands. It was going to take a lot more effort than she thought to get back to the Doctor.
"So, Doctor Song." Jack said to River after Rose had fallen back asleep. "Why are you not in prison?"
River smiled seductively. "I have my ways." River didn't even bother to question Jack about how he knew that she was in Stormcage. He was a time traveler. Jack Harkness was bound to find out eventually.
"Oh, I always like a bad girl." Jack said, flashing River a flirtatious smile. River smiled back, just as flirtatiously.
"Well then, Jack Harkness, I think we need to track down the Doctor, don't you?" River said, still smiling.
Jack's face fell a bit before he said. "Yes, I think that's a great idea."
River looked behind her and picked up a brown sack. She pulled out a rolled up painting and, very slowly, unrolled it. She showed him the painting. "Then, Jack Harkness, can you tell me what you think of this?"
River watched as Jack's mouth fell open in shock. "Yes, I think I do know what it means."
They both stared at the painting of the exploding TARDIS. "I think it means… that there is going to be a big bang."
River looked at Jack and sighed. She was about to continue when Rose stepped into the room. She looked much stronger than she had a few hours ago. River rolled up the painting and shoved it back into her bag.
Rose yawned and rubbed her eyes. She was still sore, no, more than sore, she felt like her entire body was changing. Probably another 'side effect.'
"We need to find the Doctor." Rose said automatically.
River smiled at her. "I've already left him a message."
Rose cocked her head but decided not to ask questions. "Rose, you still need to r-." Jack started.
Rose cut him off. "No, I don't need any more rest. I've slept for a total of five days now. I was out for one, two, or three in the void, maybe one or two when I woke up, and one here. River, Jack, I think I'm fine."
River walked up to her. "At least shower first." She dug through her bag and pulled out some clothes. "Here, take these."
Rose took the clothes and walked off. She spent a good ten minutes trying to find a shower. When she finally found one, she pulled off her dirt and soot (she still didn't know where that came from) covered clothes. Checked to make sure that there was a towel for when she was done, and stepped into the shower.
She let the warm water run down her back, washing away all the dirt, soot, and, of course, blood. Rose had a big cut on her back, and she didn't know where it came from. Rose stared at her hand. "It's now or never."
Rose closed her eyes, stuck her hand on the cut, and flinched involuntarily. She concentrated and tried very hard to get the energy into her hand. Rose felt a light glow touch her eyelids and very slowly the pain went away. Rose smiled to herself and opened her eyes.
After finishing her shower and getting dressed, Rose went to find River. When she found her, River tossed her a hair brush. "Wha…?" Rose began.
"I know you better than you think." Was all River said.
Rose shook her head and brushed out her hair. She tossed River the hair brush, who stuck it back in her bag.
"Do you feel any better?" River asked, finally looking up to face Rose. She nodded, and river smiled. "Good, we'll be heading out soon. We're borrowing Jack's vortex manipulator."
Rose nodded, and sat down in a chair while she waited for River to pack up. River suddenly grabbed her hand. "Let's go."
Rose smiled and nodded, and the two disappeared in a flash of light.
Amy sat in the swing below the TARDIS console, examining a ring that she had found. Was the Doctor proposing to someone? The only woman that Amy had seen the Doctor interact with was River.
Maybe he was proposing to her. Amy slowly slipped the ring on her finger, but took it right back off when the Doctor popped his head in to talk to Amy.
"Vavoom!" He yelled.
"Va-what?" Amy asked, trying to hide the ring she had found.
"I can't believe I've never thought of this before. It's genius. Right. Landed. Come on." The Doctor said, very clumsily (but gracefully) running around the TARDIS console. "We're on Planet One. The oldest planet in the universe. And there's a cliff of pure diamond, and according to legend, on the cliff there's writing. Letters fifty feet high. A message from the dawn of time And no one knows what it says, because no one's ever translated it." He flipped a lever and smiled. "Until today."
Amy was catching on now. The TARDIS could translate anything, so they were going to be the first to read it. The duo stepped outside and stared at the letters on the cliff.
"Hello… sweetie." The Doctor read aloud.
The Doctor ran right back into the TARDIS, followed by Amy, and flew away. "Following the coordinates left on the cliff!" He yelled.
They stepped out of the TARDIS, and he looked around. They were in a normal forest. The Doctor glanced at his watch. "Earth. Britain. 1:02 am. No, pm." The Doctor looked forward and his mouth fell open slightly. "No, AD."
Right in front of them was an entire legion of Romans.
"That's a Roman Legion!" Amy exclaimed, staring at the camp before them.
"Well, yeah. The Romans invaded Britain several times during this period." The Doctor explained as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Oh I know." Amy said. "My favorite topic at school. Invasion of the hot Italians."
The Doctor rolled his eyes. Amy was always destined to be a kiss-o-gram.
A soldier came running up to him. "Hail Caesar!" He yelled, getting down on one knee. "We are honored by your presence."
"Well, you're only human." The Doctor didn't know what to say. How was he supposed to sound like Caesar? "Arise… Roman person." He finished.
Amy leaned in a whispered "Why does he think you're Caesar?" into his ear.
The Doctor studied the Roman and saw a smudge of lipstick on the corner of his mouth. "Cleopatra will see you now." The Roman said.
Cleopatra? The Doctor thought as he and Amy followed the Roman down into then camp.
River and Rose appeared on the outskirts of a Roman camp. River quickly put some lipstick on a tossed Rose a new tube of it. "Hallucinogenic lipstick." River explained. "Put it on. Kiss someone and they will believe whatever you tell them."
Rose quickly put some lipstick on and stuck the case in her pocket.
River took Rose's hand and walked right into the Roman camp. A guard tried to stop them, but River kissed him after a quick apology to the Roman. "I'm Cleopatra." She said, and the glanced at Rose. "And this is my friend…"
"Rose." Rose said. She didn't want a fake name.
The Roman soldier swayed on his feet a bit. "Right this way." He said dreamily, leading them into the camp. When others tried to stop them, the soldier would quickly explain who they were, and lead them away.
They finally reached a tent where, and River told everyone, save Rose, to go outside until she called them back in. River grabbed one soldier, kissed him, and whispered something in his ear. He ran off.
River quickly pulled out some clothes for dressing like Cleopatra. She examined Rose. "Here." River tossed her some white pants, and silver-ish shirt, and a white, smooth, jacket that buttoned up at the top, split at her waist, and went down to her knees. Everything was smooth, almost like animal skin. Rose cringed at the thought and tried not to think about it.
Rose quickly dressed and River messed with her hair, and then Rose's, so that it didn't look as messy. River smiled, and then called the soldiers back in.
They sat River and Rose down on some very fluffy seats and began fanning them. Rose smiled, she could get used to this. Before she could say something to River, a man came running in. "Caesar is here!" He yelled.
"You there!" River said, pointing to a soldier in the corner of the tent. "Get my friend here a horse. She must go somewhere." The soldier nodded and ran out of the tent.
"River, what?" Rose asked.
River turned to look at her. "I need you to go to Stonehenge. Just ride around the outside of it. I'll come get you later."
Rose was about to ask something else, but one look from River cut her off. Rose sighed and walked outside with the soldier, who had just come back. The soldier helped her onto the horse, and she took off.
When had she learned to ride a horse so well?
