I feel like I put too much dialogue in my stories. Do I?

Chapter 22

1,894 after the Pandorica opened, a little girl sat in her bedroom, praying for someone to fix the crack in her wall. She thought she heard something outside, but when she glanced out the window there was nothing there.

This little girl was the only little girl in Leadworth who believed in stars. Everyone tried to convince her that there were no stars, that stars never existed, but she was sure of it.

Amelia Pond was 100% sure that there were stars out there, somewhere.

Someone had put a letter through her door with a date and address on it. She made her Aunt Sharon take her to this place, which was a museum. Inside, she went to the exact place the piece of paper told her to go to. The Pandorica.

And Amelia waited there for the entire day. At the end of the day, when everyone was gone, she came out of her hiding place.

She put her hand on the Pandorica, and it began to open.

Sitting inside was Amy Pond. "Okay kid, this is where it gets complicated."

1,894 years in the past, Rory Williams sat by a fire with his dead fiancé in his arms. "So the universe ended." He said. "You missed that. In 102 A.D. too. I suppose this means you and I never get born at all. Twice in my case."

He sighed, pushing hair off of Amy's face. "Rose said the universe was huge and ridiculous and sometimes there were miracles. I could do with a ridiculous miracle about now."

The Doctor suddenly appeared, wearing a fez and holding a mop. "Rory! Listen, she's not dead!" He yelled, but then backtracked. "Well, she is dead but it's not the end of the world. Well, it is the end of the world. Actually, it's the end of the universe. Oh no, hang on."

He pressed something on his wrist and disappeared in a flash of light. He soon came back, this time not holding a mop. "You need to get me out of the Pandorica."

"But you not in the Pandorica." Rory spluttered.

"Yes, I am." The Doctor said confidently. "Well, I'm not now, but I was back then. Well, back now from your point of few, which is back then for me." He shook his head and held out his sonic screwdriver. "It's easy to open from the outside, just point and press."

He tossed Rory the sonic. "Oh, and you'll probably find Rose with her head against the Pandorica, crying. Reassure her." He disappeared again, but then reappeared. "Oh, and when you're done, leave my screwdriver in Amy's top pocket." And then he was gone.

Soon Rory was running down the stairs. He got Rose away from the Pandorica, after a lot of reassurance that the Doctor was fine, and pointed the sonic at the Pandorica. He clicked the button and the box slowly creaked open. The clamps released.

"How did you do that?" The Doctor asked, not moving.

Rory held up the sonic. "You gave me this."

The Doctor pulled his own sonic screwdriver out. "No I didn't."

He slowly stepped out of the box and held the sonic screwdrivers together. They sparked. "Same sonic at different points in the time line." The Doctor observed.

Before he could continue, Rory leaned towards him and said. "There's someone that wants to talk to you."

Rose watched as Rory stepped away from the Doctor, and their eyes met. Rose stepped forward, and so did the Doctor. And then another step, and another, and then their arms were around each other.

"I think we've been separated enough recently." The Doctor said, and Rose just laughed.

There were daleks and cybermen surrounding them, but they were all frozen… in time. The Doctor pulled away, finally noticing them. "Okay…" He stepped towards a frozen dalek. "History has collapsed. Entire races have been deleted. These are just like after-images… echoes." He flicked a Roman's helmet.

"Er… what does that mean?" Rory asked.

"Total event collapse. The universe literally never happened." Rose whispred, not taking her eyes off of the frozen dalek.

Rory stared at Rose and the Doctor worriedly. "So, how can we be here? What's keeping us safe?

The Doctor looked around. "Nothing. Eye of the storm, that's all. We're just the last light to go out." Rose elbowed him, trying to signal him to be gentler with the truth. "Amy. Where's Amy?"

Rose just shook her head as Rory's face fell and his eyes welled up with tears. This regeneration had no social skills.

Rory led them up the stairs and over to Amy's limp body. If Rose didn't focus on her she could almost imagine that Amy was asleep and not the… other.

"Oh Rory." The Doctor whispered.

Rory looked down. "S-so what am I?"

Rose put a hand on his shoulder, remembering her first encounter with the Doctor. "You're a Nestene duplicate. A lump of plastic with delusions of humanity." The Doctor said before Rose could say anything.

Oh, Rose could slap him right now. "But I'm Rory now." Rory argued. "Whatever's happening it stopped! I'm Rory!"

"That's software talking." Said the Doctor, not looking away from his sonic screwdriver.

Rose kicked him in the side, not hard, but hard enough. He didn't look up.

A tear slipped down Rory's face. "Can you help her? Is there anything you can do?"

The Doctor finally stood up, sticking his sonic back inside his jacket. "Yeah, probably, if I had the time."

Rose stomped on his foot, but he still didn't acknowledge her. She really wanted to slap the Doctor right now, what was wrong with him? Couldn't he tell Rory was grieving?

"The time?!" Rory yelled at the Doctor, stepping forward. Oh, he was getting angry, and he had a sword. Not good.

"All of creation has just been wiped from the sky. Do you know how many lives now never happened? All the people who never lived?" The Doctor said rudely. Even though he wasn't ginger, he didn't need to be so rude. "Your girlfriend isn't more important than the whole universe."

Rory punched him so hard that the Doctor stumbled backwards. "She is to me!"

"You go Rory!" Rose yelled.

The Doctor jumped up and did a little dance. "Welcome back, Rory Williams! Sorry. Had to be sure. Hell of a gun-arm you're packing there." He turned to face Rose, and she slapped him.

"That's for being rude." She said. The Doctor glared at her.

He spun around to face Rory. "Right, we need to get Amy downstairs. And take that look off your plastic face. You're getting married in the morning."

Rose just shook her head and hugged the Doctor. "Don't ever do that again. I thought you actually meant it. I was about ready to slap you into your next regeneration."

The Doctor hugged her back, and then turned to face Rory. Soon, they were all down in the underhenge and the Doctor was strapping Amy into the Pandorica.

The Doctor pressed his fingertips her Amy' temples. "I'm leaving her a message so she knows what's going on when she wakes up." He said, pulling away.

He closed the Pandorica and turned to face Rory and Rose. "In the future there is going to be a little girl at a museum. That little girl is Amelia Pond. She'll touch the Pandorica and Amy will be restored. This box will keep her alive until then." The Doctor reassured them, but mostly he was saying it to Rory.

Rory cocked his head. "When in the future?"

The Doctor glanced at his watch. "In about two thousand years."

The Doctor slipped a vortex manipulator on his wrist. "She's going to be in there for two thousand years?!" Rory exclaimed.

The Doctor didn't look up and said "Yes, but we're taking a shortcut."

Oh, Rory wasn't going to like that. He was very stubborn, and he was not going to leave Amy alone. "Don't worry, she'll be safe." Rose said, trying to reassure him.

"But she'll be safer if someone protects her, right?" Rory asked. "This box needs a guard, I killed the last one."

The Doctor gave him a half smile. "Nope, no Rory. Don't even think about it."

Rose elbowed the Doctor. "Yes, she would be safer."

Rory smiled. The Doctor glared at her, but Rose didn't care. "It's love, Doctor." She whispered.

The Doctor just shook his head. "Two thousand years Rory. You'll go mad."

Rose put her arm around Rory. "No, he won't. It's for love, and you can do anything for love."

The Doctor smiled and pulled Rose away from Rory to hug her. Rose put her hand on the vortex manipulator. "Listen to me. This is the last bit of advice you're going to get in a very long time. You're living plastic, but you're not immortal. I have no idea how long you'll last. And you're not indestructible. Stay away from heat and radio signals when they come along. You can't heal, or repair yourself. Any damage is permanent. So, for God's sake, however bored you get, stay out of-."

They vanished and reappeared in a museum, most likely two thousand years in the future. Rose sighed, it seemed like the Doctor left everyone hanging. He never finished the most important sentences, like when they were on Bad Wolf Bay the first time.

"You never finish your sentences!" Rose said, and the Doctor flinched. "Sorry, the was harsh."

Rose pulled him down and kissed his cheek, and the Doctor smiled at her. Rose finally noticed that Amy and Amelia were behind them, and there was a dalek in front of them. "Ah! Trouble!" The Doctor said.

He whipped around, taking Rose with him. "Oh, two of you." Rose said. "Complicated as it gets. Remember when there were two of you?" Rose said to the Doctor.

"Yes, and that was one of the most complicated days of my life, now come on!" The Doctor yelled, grabbing Rose's hand. "Come along Ponds!" He yelled over his shoulder.

Rose ran into a mannequin and a fez fell off of it. The Doctor caught it. "It can't shoot yet, but it will be able to soon!"

"What's going on?" Someone yelled from the other side of the room. Probably a museum guard walking to his death.

"Scanners detect intruder alert!" The dalek said. The guard dropped his torch.

"You think?" He asked, and then began firing at the dalek. But not with a gun, he used his hand. Rory!

Amy ran around the now still dalek. "Rory!" She ran towards him and jumped into his arms. Rose laughed happily.

"I'm sorry, it just happened. I-." Rory started, but Amy cut him off with a kiss.

"We've got to go!" The Doctor said, interrupting them.

"I waited for you. Two thousand years." Rory said. Amy kissed him again and the Doctor rolled his eyes. Rose grabbed his hand and smiled at him.

He stepped away. "The light from the Pandorica must have hit the dalek." He observed, sticking the fez on Amelia. She shoved it back into his hands. Suddenly the dalek's firing whisk thing began to move. "Out!"

Rose was just about to tell the Doctor what had happened with the Bad Wolf, but the dalek just had to power back up. He grabbed her hand and dragged her forward, and they all ran out of the museum. The Doctor shut the door and locked it. He studied the fez and then put it on.

Rose had to stifle a laugh. He looked so ridiculous but so adorable in it. He picked up a mop.

"The mop!" Rory yelled, and the Doctor whipped around, flinging the mop around like it was a sword. "That's what you looked like when you gave me your sonic."

"Ah, well then, no time to lose." He punched something into his vortex manipulator and vanished.

Rose rolled her eyes and repeated what she said all those years ago. "Why is it always the good looking ones that vanish into thin air?"

Amy laughed, but then shut up when Rose looked at her. Rose's emotions obviously showed on her face as she remembered Bad Wolf bay again.

He reappeared and put the mop back in its place. "Rose, where were you when the universe ended?"

Rose thought for a second. "I had my head against the Pandorica, crying my eyes out."

"That's why I thought I could hear you!" The Doctor yelled triumphantly before disappearing again.

Amelia tapped Rose's shoulder. "How can he do that? Is he magic?" Rose didn't answer.

He reappeared and grabbed Rose's hand. "Come on!" Then he stopped. "No wait, now I don't have my sonic." He disappeared again, and then reappeared seconds later. "Now then." He walked over to Amy and pulled his sonic out of her pocket. "Let's go."

Then he spun around and walked over to Amelia. "How do you know to come here?" He asked.

Amelia handed him some pieces of paper and the Doctor smiled. "Ah, my handwriting."

He grabbed a pamphlet and a piece of paper, scribbled some things on them, and disappeared. He reappeared without the paper, but holding a drink. He handed it to Amelia.

"What is that? How are you doing that?" Amy asked.

"Vortex manipulator." Rose told her.

"Cheap and nasty time travel. Very bad for you. I'm trying to give it up." The Doctor said. Rose rolled her eyes and smiled.

Before he could do anything else, another Doctor appeared at the top of the stairs. He wasn't wearing a fez and his clothes were smoking. He fell over and tumbled down the stairs.

He was still for a few moments before grabbing the Doctor by his lapels, pulled him down, and whispered something in his ears. Rose and the new Doctor's eyes met. "Rose." He said, and then he went still.

"I-is he dead?" Amy asked hesitantly.

The Doctor looked at Rose sadly, who had her hand over her mouth and was crying. "What? Dead? Yes, yes. Of course he's dead. Right, I've got twelve minutes. That's good." He said, and without another word he climbed the steps.

"We can't just leave you here!" Rory yelled.

"Oh, so now you're in charge." The Doctor said calmly. "Then tell me what we're going to do about Amelia!"

They all turned around. Where Amelia was standing a second ago there was only her drink lying on the floor.

Rose's hand shot to her mouth. They were running out of time. The universe was dying and the Doctor was going to die in twelve minutes.
