Chapter 23

"There is no Amelia." Rose said. "There never was." She was finally catching on now.

"History is still collapsing." The Doctor said.

Amy looked down sadly. "Then how am I still here?"

The Doctor looked at his dead self. "You're an anomaly. We all are. We're all just hanging on at the eye of the storm. But the eye is closing, and if we don't do something fast, reality will never have happened. Today, just dying is a result. Now, come on!"

He rushed up the stairs, dragging Rose with him. "He won't die. Time can be re-written." Rose heard Amy say as Rory covered the Doctor with his jacket.

But not this time. Once you see it happen, it happens, or the entirety of time will collapse. Rose had experienced it first-hand when she had tried to save her dad. She wasn't ready for that to happen again. But even though she knew that they couldn't change the future, she still ran through hundreds of ways to save the Doctor's life.

The Doctor dragged her up to the roof. "It's morning already?" Amy asked, stepping out into the light.

The Doctor rushed forward, finally dropping Rose's hand. "History is shrinking. Is anybody listening to me?" He rolled his eyes. "The universe is collapsing. We don't have much time left."

He looks so adorable in that fez. Rose thought dreamily. She shook her head, realizing what she was thinking. The Doctor jumped up onto a platform and pointed his sonic screwdriver at the satellite dish that was balancing on the edge of the platform.

The sonic emitted the familiar high-pitched warbling noise. The satellite sparked and the Doctor removed it from its place on the pole.

"What are you doing?" Rory asked curiously.

"Looking for the TARDIS." The Doctor answered absentmindedly.

"But the TARDIS exploded." Rory protested.

"Ok, then, he's looking for an exploding TARDIS." Rose told Rory as the Doctor went to stand on the edge of the building, holding the satellite dish towards the sky.

"I don't understand. So, the TARDIS blew up and took the universe with it. But why would it do that? How?" Amy asked, practically yelling.

The Doctor didn't take his eyes away from the sky. "Good question for another day. The question for now is: total event collapse means that every star in the universe never happened. Not one single one of them ever shone." The Doctor said, pointing his sonic at the sun (or the thing the thought was the sun). "So, if all the stars that ever were are gone, then what is that?"

Rose stared at the big ball of fire in the sky, and then turned to face the Doctor. "Oh."

"But that's the sun!" Amy said.

The Doctor held up the satellite dish, his eyes tearing up slightly. "Well here's the noise the 'sun' is making right now."

And they heard the TARDIS.

Rose put her face in her hands. Everything was falling apart. The future she had always wanted with the Doctor, travelling together in the TARDIS, having adventures together, maybe one day (she hoped) get into a real relationship and possibly get married, and maybe even start a family. She thought that it was all possible when she woke up and realized that she had two hearts, but it seemed like the universe never worked in her favor.

"That's my TARDIS…" The Doctor glanced at Rose. "Our TARDIS burning up."

Rose smiled at him. Even if they didn't have the TARDIS they could still have a future together. But he's going to die soon. She remembered, and all hope of a future together left her.

"That's what's been keeping the Earth warm, isn't it?" Rose asked the Doctor, trying to draw her thoughts away from the Doctor's impending doom.

He nodded, still holding up the satellite.

"Doctor, there's something else." Rory said worriedly. "There's a voice."

Amy leaned in towards Rory. "I can't hear anything."

Rory pointed to his ears. "Trust the plastic." He said sarcastically. Rose would have laughed if the situation they were in wasn't so serious.

Amy raised her eyebrows but didn't say anything.

The Doctor extended his sonic and the volume turned up. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." Rose heard. It was on a repeat.

Rose gasped, finally recognizing the voice. "That's River."

The Doctor slowly brought down the satellite and he turned to face them. "Of course, the emergency protocols." He said, hitting himself in the head with his sonic screwdriver. "The TARDIS has sealed off the control room and put her into a time loop to save her. She is right at the heart of the explosion."

Rose subconsciously brought a hand up to cover her mouth. "I'm going up there." The Doctor said.

"Not without me." Rose protested. The Doctor looked at her sadly before disappearing in a flash of light.

"Not again." Rose mumbled.

He appeared again a few seconds later, River by his side. Rose walked up to him. "Oh, you left Rose again." River said, clicking her tongue. "Even if it was only for a few seconds… that's just upsetting sweetie."

Rose gave a half smile, happy that River was on her side. "If you do that again, I'll slap you harder than my mum did."

The Doctor flinched, and Rose laughed. "Amy!" River said happily, finally noticing the ginger girl.

Rory and Amy turned around. "And the… plastic centurion?" River said questioningly.

"It's ok, he's on our side." Rose said happily, putting an arm around Rory.

Even if Rory was plastic…and a Roman, he was still Rory. Good ol' Rory, always there for everyone. Rose was happy to have him. Rory gave Rose a grateful smile.

"Oh really?" River asked, and Rory nodded. "I dated a Nestene duplicate once. Swappable head. It did keep things fresh."

Rose laughed, but caught Rory's offended expression, and clamped her mouth shut.

"Right then, I have questions, but number one is this: what in the name of sanity have you got on your head?" River said, turning to face the Doctor.

Rose laughed as the Doctor said "It's a fez. I wear a fez now, fezzes are cool."

He was so adorable, and this time Rose wasn't embarrassed with herself for thinking that. He really was, and Rose would treasure every moment with him, knowing each one could be the last.

Amy and River exchanged a glance, and Amy grabbed the fez off of his head. She threw it into the sky just as Rose and the Doctor both said "Oh!"

River pulled out her blaster and shot the hat, blowing it to smithereens. "I liked the fez." Rose said sadly. The Doctor put an arm around her and pulled her close, kissing her forehead.

Rose felt her cheeks flush as Amy raised her eyebrows.

The Doctor was being a lot more open with his emotions, and Rose was kind of enjoying it.

"EXTERMINATE!" Something yelled from below where the fez exploded, and a dalek rose up and into their view.

Time was up. This was when the Doctor would die.

I know, short chapter, but I'm tired. But please review! I really want to know what you think of my story! Plus, I really want to know if I put too much dialogue in my stories.

Well then:
