Chapter 26
The Doctor shot up in the TARDIS. He looked around. "Oh, ok then, I escaped." He said, examining his surroundings. "Brilliant, love it when I do that."
He looked down to examine himself. "Legs, yes." He patted his legs. "Bowtie." He grabbed his bowtie. "Cool." The Doctor then brought his hand up and felt above his head. "I can buy a fez."
Rose would've laughed at that. He thought.
Then suddenly he heard himself talking, and he peeked above the next platform to find himself and Amy talking about Space Florida. "No, hang on, this was last week." He said, watching his younger self mess with something on the console. "I'm re-winding. My… my time stream is unravelling." He realized.
He turned around, noticing that there was a crack in the wall of the TARDIS. The Crack.
"Hello universe… goodbye Doctor." He whispered sadly. Suddenly he had an idea, and he turned around to face Amy. "Amy!"
Amy turned around, obviously hearing him but not seeing him.
Suddenly everything turned white and then he was standing in a street outside of Craig's home. "Three weeks ago when she put the card in the window." He said, noticing Amy walking up to Craig's. "Amy!"
Amy looked directly at him. "I need to tell you something!"
Amy seemed to hear him, but she looked around as if she couldn't see him. "Ah, so she can hear me."
He turned around, and saw the crack again. Everything went white, and he landed in the room where Rose had died. "Nope." He said, and then he was in the cavern with the Angels.
Once his other self was gone, and it was just Amy with her eyes closed and the soldiers, he ran over to her, grabbing her hands. "Amy, you need to start trusting me. It's never been more important."
"But you don't always tell me the truth." She said.
He smiled sadly and shook his head. "If I always told you the truth I wouldn't need you to trust me."
"Doctor, the crack in my wall, how can it be hear?" Amy asked, sounding very scared. The Doctor felt like he should comfort her, but he didn't know how.
He sighed. "I don't know yet but I'm working it out." He put his hands on either side of Amy's face. "Now, listen. Remember what I told you when you were seven?"
"What did you tell me?" Amy asked. The Doctor leaned forward and put his forehead against Amy's.
"No, no, that's not the point." He said. "But you have to remember." He kissed Amy's forehead and turned around to face the crack. Everything went white again.
And then he was in Amy's house. "Amelia's house." He said, and glanced at his watch. "When she was seven." He slowly brought his arm down. "The night she waited."
The Time Lord turned around and walked out of the door and into the garden. Little Amelia was asleep on her suitcase, wearing her red hat and a blue coat. He smiled sadly, thinking of everything he put her through, and scooped her up.
He brought Amelia inside, up the stairs, and into her bedroom. He laid her on the bed, tucked her in, and smiled at her. She looked so innocent.
"It's funny. I thought if you could hear me, I could hang on somehow. Silly me. Silly old Doctor. When you wake up, you'll have a mum and dad, and you won't even remember me. Well, you'll remember me a little. I'll be a story in your head." The Doctor smiled and shook his head sadly. "But that's okay. We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Because it was, you know. It was the best. The daft old man who stole a magic box and ran away. Did I ever tell you that I stole it? Well, I borrowed it. I was always going to take it back.
Oh, that box. Amy, you'll dream about that box. It'll never leave you. Big and little at the same time. Brand new and ancient, and the bluest blue ever. And the times we had, eh? Would have had. Never had. In your dreams, they'll still be there. The Doctor and Amy Pond, and the days that never came. The cracks are closing. But they can't close properly until I'm on the other side. I don't belong here anymore. Live well. Love Rory. Bye bye, Pond." He kissed her forehead and faced the crack in her wall.
"One last stop." He whispered.
He stepped towards the crack, and then he was standing in front of the Powell Estate on New Year's 2005.
The Doctor noticed that his TARDIS wasn't there, and he glanced at his watch. It was past the time when he had gone to Rose before he had regenerated. Slowly the Doctor entered the Powell Estate, walked up the stairs, and got into Rose's flat (using his sonic, of course).
He found Rose asleep on the couch, the television still going. He shut it off, and scooped Rose up. Just like he did to Amelia, he tucked her into bed and sat in a chair next to her. He realized how beautiful she looked when she was sleeping.
"Rose Tyler." He whispered. "You are brilliant, and wonderful, and this year you were going to go on amazing adventures, but I guess that's never gonna happen now. And maybe Jackie will still be here, I don't know, maybe she will end up in the Parallel World." He was ranting now, and he shook his head to clear his thoughts. "Oh Rose, we were going to be fantastic, you and I, just travelling the stars." He brushed a piece of hair out of her face. "But you were always fantastic, remember that. You are more than a shop girl; you are Rose Tyler, the Bad Wolf, defender of the Earth. And I'll always love you, to Gallifrey and back."
He smiled and kissed her forehead. "Love you. Goodbye." He stepped into the crack, and this time, there was nothing else to do.
Rose woke up in some bushes. She pushed the leaves out of the way and crawled out. It was early afternoon, probably around one, and no one was out. The blonde stood up and examined her surroundings. She was outside of the museum that she had been in with… she couldn't remember.
There was something missing. Rose concentrated and tried to remember. "A-amy." She said slowly. Yes, she was there with Amy. "And Rory… River… and…" she stumbled back, tripped over a rock, and hit the ground.
"The Doctor!" She jumped up, but doubled over when more memories hit her. It went something like: Pandorica; the Doctor; cracks in time and space; the Doctor; reset; the Doctor; New Year's 2005; the Doctor.
New Year's 2005. Oh.
She had always thought that was a dream. She had heard someone talking on New Year's, and his voice had found a way into her dreams. She had then woken up and realized she was in her bed and not on the couch.
Rose now knew that that was the Doctor talking and not some strange thing her subconscious had conjured up.
Someone grabbed her shoulder and Rose would have screamed if the person had not covered her mouth. "Shush."
The person slowly lowered her hand, and Rose turned around to face them. She was met by River Song's friendly smile. "I see you've remembered." River said.
Rose nodded. "Well, come on then. You've got a wedding that you can't miss."
River grabbed her hand and dragged her forward. "River." Rose said, trying to catch the other woman's attention. River didn't stop. "River!"
River turned around to face her and sighed. "Amy and Rory's wedding, of course." She said.
"But I can't go in wearing this!" Rose said, gesturing to her torn white coat that she had gotten from River at Stonehenge.
River sighed, reached into her bag, and pulled out a blue dress. "Bigger on the inside." River explained before Rose could ask about how she fit the dress into her bag.
River then resumed dragging Rose forward, not saying anything.
Rose examined herself in the mirror of the bar's restroom (which they had broken into). The blue dress River had given to her fit perfectly. It definitely accented her curves. Rose had let her hair hang done a but a blue hat on to match the theme of the wedding. River had also given Rose some silver flats that also somehow fit perfectly.
Rose just sighed and shook her head. The dress worked for being a guest at a wedding… it definatley wasn't flashy or showoff…y.
Rose stepped out of the restroom. River gave her a once over and approved. "Now." River said, leading her out "Amy should remember you as a friend, so you can go to the wedding, but sit in the back."
Rose nodded. Since Leadworth was a small town, they reached the chapel in no time. River stood back and let Rose go forward.
Rose was let in, just as River said, and she sat in the back.
The wedding was wonderful, touching, and downright lovely. There were tears shed by Amy's mum and dad, and Rory's dad sat smiling like a goofball. Rose had cried a bit and was very happy when Amy and Rory kissed.
And soon enough, they were at the after party.
Rose sat in the back. She and Amy made eye contact and Rose gave her a thumbs up. Amy smiled and turned back to Rory.
Good, Amy recognized her.
Amy's dad stood up, announced that he would need another two minutes before his speech, and sat back down. Rose smiled and shook her head. Rose looked up and noticed Amy was looking out the window, and Rose followed her gaze.
Walking outside was River Song. Amy shot up and watched River sadly.
Oh holy TARDIS of Gallifrey, she was remembering.
Rory started talking to Amy, and the ginger slowly sat back down. Rory handed Amy a blue journal, and TARDIS blue journal… River Song's journal.
Amy flipped through it, tears slipping down her face, and Rose started to worry.
Amy's dad stood up, and Amy began to look around the room. Rose followed her gaze to everything she stared at and saw that she was looking at a bowtie, someone's suspenders, and then the journal.
Oh… she had remembered.
Amy shot up. "Shut up dad!"
Rose covered her mouth with her hand.
"Amelia?" Her dad said, surprised.
"Shut up, please, there's someone missing. Someone important. Someone so, so important." Amy said sadly.
"Amy, what's wrong?" Rory asked worriedly.
Amy looked around. "Sorry. Sorry, everyone. But when I was a kid, I had an imaginary friend."
Amy's mum sighed. "Oh not this again."
"The Raggedy Doctor… my Raggedy Doctor." Amy said, and Rose smiled, lowering her hand from her mouth.
Amy shook her head. "But he wasn't imaginary… he was real."
Everyone started muttering to other people and Rose caught a few things such as: 'crazy!'
Rose could have punched everyone at that moment.
Amy's mum tried to stop the ranting bride by saying "The psychiatrists we sent her to!"
"I remember you. I remember! I brought the others back; I can bring you home, too." Amy slammed her hand down onto the table. "Raggedy man, I remember you, and you are late for my wedding!"
The glasses started rattling and everyone looked around, alarmed. Rose smiled as wind started blowing through the room.
"I found you. I found you in words, like you knew I would. That's why you told me the story the brand new, ancient blue box." Amy said as the wind grew stronger, blowing all the balloons around.
"Amy, what is it?" Rory asked.
Amy smiled, and Rose slowly stood up as she heard the familiar wheezing of the TARDIS. "Something old. Something new. Something borrowed. Something blue." Amy said.
The TARDIS materialized in the center of the room. "It's the Doctor!" Rory exclaimed. "How could we forget the Doctor?"
Before anyone could move, Rose jumped over an empty seat, ran towards the center of the room, and stood in front of the TARDIS. She raised her hand snapped her fingers, and the doors opened.
The Doctor stepped into view, wearing a black top hat, a long black jacket with tails, and a white bowtie. Rose yanked him down and hugged him. "It's you, it's really you!" She said.
The Doctor laughed, picked her up, and spun her around. "Of course it's me!" He said, setting her down. "I'm never gone for good."
"Rose…?" Rory said hesitantly. They probably didn't remember that she traveled with them, too.
Rose studied the Doctor's face for a second and then gave him the hardest slap she could deliver. "Ow!" He exclaimed stumbling back.
"You go and make me believe that you're dead, just left me here with nothing, and then you suddenly come back!" Rose exclaimed pushing past him and entering the TARDIS.
"Rose." The Doctor said, his tone begging her to understand.
"No, stop." She said, spinning around and putting a finger on his lips. "Just give me a bit."
She stepped into the TARDIS and closed the doors.
The Doctor stared at the closed doors before whipping around to face everyone. "Sorry about that!" He said. "I should probably apologize."
He smiled at everyone and Amy jumped over the table. "So did I surprise you?" She asked excitedly, bouncing on the balls of her feet.
"Um, yeah." He said, truly surprised. "Completely astonished."
He stepped out of the TARDIS as Amy smiled. "How lucky I happened to be wearing this old thing!" He pulled on the lapels of his suit.
Amy smiled. "Oh, and Rose. She's probably really mad at you, you need to apologize."
The Doctor pouted. "But I saved her life!"
"Yes, and you also left her." Amy argued. "Now, everyone's staring. Go do your thing!"
Rory stood up, smiling.
"Hello everyone! I'm Amy's imaginary friend." The Doctor leaned down and shook Amy's father's hand. He was smiling like a goofball. "But I came anyway!"
Amy stood up, smirking, and walked towards the Doctor. "You may absolutely definitely may kiss the bri-."
The Doctor cut her off by pressing his finger to her lips. "No, I'm with Rose, and you're married." He turned towards Rory and clapped him on the back. "I'll leave the kissing to the brand new… Mr. Pond!"
Rory smiled like an idiot for a few seconds before frowning. "No, it doesn't work that way!"
The Doctor patted him on the back. "Course it does!"
Rory stared at him for a few seconds before giving in. "Yeah, it does."
The Doctor spun around, his scarf flying out everywhere, and he clapped his hands. "Now, I'll move my box. I assume you'll need the space." He ran up to the TARDIS and turned to face everyone. "I only came for the dancing."
