Chapter 30: Happily ever after
Quil's POV.
When I got Claire the tickets for France when she graduated High School, I had honestly gotten them because I knew it was something that she desperately wanted. I hadn't thought about that possibility of our relationship moving to the next level until Jacob and Seth mentioned it in France. At that point, I hadn't been sure she wanted to take it further. I was ready, but I didn't want to rush Claire into anything, I would have never of forgiven myself if Claire felt rushed or pressured. So I was waiting for her to tell me or make clear signs that she wanted more.
And then in the second week of our trip to outright demanded that we be together and said that she loved me. She loved me. I had almost combusted when she said that because I knew she meant she was in love with me. She loved me like I loved her and we finally told each other. Our first night together…it was the best night of my life. Claire and I finally joined together as we were meant to and had mind-blowing sex, and then again when we got home. The next morning I had been so euphoric that I didn't care that Aiden and Brady had heard us or that they took the piss out of me when we patrolled. Claire and I were together and I was so happy, Sam said I resembled Seth.
I was too happy to be offended by that.
As Claire's University moving day got closer and closer my happiness began to diminish. She was leaving. She was moving over four hours away and starting another chapter in her life. I couldn't help but wonder if our relationship would be effected or if she would want to slow down because of the distance. Of course, I would have done anything for Claire, but that didn't mean I wanted to slow down. However, my worry had been for nothing. We communicated every day and I went down almost every weekend to see her. If anything, our relationship strengthened. We could survive the distance without getting into fights or losing our connection. It proved we were meant to be together and shot down the questions from anyone else that said we were never going to last.
Even Claire's parents accepted our relationship. They hadn't been happy that their daughter was dating me, I had expected it and on some levels I knew Claire had, too. However, after seeing that we were together and weren't going to break-up any time soon (ever), they gave Claire their blessing. This was just the cherry on top of our massive cake.
Behati had even been given the all clear from Carlisle to see her friends and after a brilliant first meeting, Behati became a constant presence in our lives. Claire was ecstatic that her best friend was back into her life and we regularly made trips to random towns to hang out together or just went to the Cullen house to see her. No matter what, Collin and I wouldn't stray too far away. Although I trusted Behati, I didn't trust the vampire part of her, and Claire or Gabby could only have to get a paper cut and all hell could break lose, like it had for Bella all those years ago. I wasn't going to take chances where Claire's safety was concerned.
Claire came home for the summer and we spent most of it together. However, Claire also had a lot or work to do and got a recommendation from the Seattle hospital to work in Forks hospital for the summer. She spent many hours there, though afterwards she could drive down to the apartment and sleep in the bed with me. Those were the best nights.
She soon went back to University for her second year out of the four she had to complete to get her nursing Bachelor degree. Her second year was even busier than her first and we saw each other less, though we still spoke or text every night. There wasn't a day that went by that I didn't miss her. Though how proud I was of her made the ache lessen. I was always bragging about her to anyone that would listen. The pack, my mom, the elders, the old woman at the grocery store—they were all sick of hearing about Claire's accomplishments, but I never would be.
I buzzed with excitement when the winter holidays came. Claire was coming home for them and her parents had gone to visit Claire's Uncle and Aunt, who had just had a baby girl born last week, so Claire was free to come down to La Push. Now twenty-years-old, she could stay with me without telling her Aunt and Uncle of her plans. We spent three days hauled up in my room, only leaving for food and the bathroom. We left for the first time on Christmas day to go and see the Uley's with presents and bags in hand.
"Oh, thank you!" Emily gasped as she opened the diamond earrings we had bought her. "They must have cost a lot, you shouldn't have."
"Please, Aunt Em, you deserve them. I basically took over your spare room for a decade. It's the least I can give you," Claire smiled.
Emily beamed with watery eyes and gave us both a hug. Once we had opened all the presents, we sat down for Christmas dinner together. After that we watched a movie and then Claire made some excuses about University work. I didn't listen to them, too busy thinking about what we were really going to do when we got back to my apartment.
We ran through the rain and into the building. Instantly, I twirled her around and pulled her flush against my body to kiss her. She moaned and ran her hands through my hair. As our tongues battled, I hoisted her around my hips and carried her up the stairs and into my bedroom. I gently laid her on the bed and climbed between her legs. She had just gotten my t-shirt off when she bent my leg so I fell and turned us so she was on top. She sat on my arousal, her warmth seeping through my cut offs and I groaned throatily.
Grinning wickedly, Claire reached for the end of her dress and slowly lifted off her head and threw it to the floor. I watched her long hair fall around her shoulders and then I looked further down. With extreme pleasure, I noticed her sexy red lace underwear that left little to the imagination. My semi-hard member turned rock solid.
"Holy fuck," I mumbled, leaning forward to kiss the valley of her breasts.
She let out a breathy laugh. "Do you like it?"
"I fucking love it," I said, my hands skimming to her ass. I ran my hands along the smooth skin and squeezed. She moaned and arched into me.
"Good. I bought it for you."
Growling, I leaned forward and sucked on her collar bone and the nape of her neck. I carefully pulled down the straps of her bra and pulled the padding until her perfect breasts were exposed. I sucked on the erect nipples until her nails were digging into my shoulders.
"Quil," she moaned.
She shoved me in the shoulders until I was flat on my back, her cheeks were flushed and I smirked in satisfaction. With shaky fingers, she went to unbutton my pants. Reaching down, I put my finger on her bundle of nerves and pressed. Claire halted in her actions and whimpered.
She was magnificent and I was the luckiest man in the world. How I had gotten her as a soul-mate, I'd never know, but I would be eternally grateful and thanked the God's every day that they had let me imprint on her.
She took a deep breath and yanked down my pants with extra aggression. She bent to drop a kiss on my stomach and then lifted herself onto her knees before sinking down on me. Her tight warmth engulfed me and I growled. Nothing felt as good as Claire did.
She closed her eyes and rested her hands on my biceps, then she bobbed up and down and I grabbed her hips tightly. She moved again…God, it felt incredible. She started slowly and then sped up so much the bed was shaking. The sounds she made were sending me into madness as she rocked like an expert on top of me.
I watched her move, taking in the view of her breasts bouncing up and down and the way she flung her head back and groaned loudly. She was the most beautiful woman in the world and I loved her with everything I had. She was perfect in every way.
I felt myself begin to tip over the edge but I was determined to make her come before me. Clenching my teeth, I reached down and played with her most sensitive area, flicking and circling it through the tiny panties she had left on, she had pushed the material to the side for me to enter her. Claire screamed out and let out a sobbing noise and I knew she was close. Holding my breath, I scraped my nail on her and she yelled out, clenching around me. The feeling of her coming threw me over the edge and I exploded inside her, muttering her name.
She collapsed against me, breathing hard. She rolled onto her back and then curled into my side, smiling. I looked down at her and felt an overwhelming surge of love. Claire, my beautiful, gorgeous Claire. She turned her head up to look me in the eyes and put her hand on my cheek. I leaned down and lovingly kissed her.
"Marry me, Claire," I whispered.
I hadn't realized I was the one that spoke until Claire's eyes widened. However, I meant them. I wanted to marry her, I wanted to be her husband, to worship her for the rest of our lives and for everyone to know I was hers and she was mine.
"What?" she breathed.
"Marry me," I repeated strongly. "I don't have a ring or anything yet…I was going to propose after you finished University but I can't wait anymore. I love you, Claire. I loved you since the day I met you, in a different way obviously, but now we're together and I want to be together forever. I want to celebrate our love with our family and friends and I want to be husband and wife."
Her eyes softened and then they got watery. "Oh Quil," she chuckled. She propped herself up and kissed me. "Yes," she giggled. "Yes, yes, yes!"
I broke into a wide smile. "I love you, Claire."
"I love you, too."
She leaned down and kissed me again. Grinning against my lips, she rubbed herself against my hardening member and I groaned, rolling her over to adore and devote myself to every inch of her outstanding body.
The next morning I awoke early, showered and changed as quietly as I could and left a note for Claire.
If you wake up before I come back, I'm sorry, but I've gone for something and I'll be back soon.
I love you, my fiancé.
I kissed her forehead and phased in the forest. I sprinted to Port Angeles and into the jewellery store where a young woman was behind the counter looked up and smiled.
"Hi, can I help you?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'm looking for an engagement ring."
"Oh, congratulations!" she chirped, bending to get a set of rings. "These are just some of the rings we have to offer today."
Choosing a ring was harder than I anticipated. None of them seemed to be the one I knew Claire would love. After an hour, I started to lose hope and racked my brain for another store to visit when I saw the perfect one. It was on the last set of rings she showed me, a silver and diamond ring with a main diamond in the middle, two smaller diamonds either side, followed by even smaller diamonds all the way around the ring. Smiling, I purchased it with my card and thanked the woman as I ran out the store. I made sure the small velvet box was securely in my pocket, phased and ran back to my fiancé.
I would never get tired of that.
When I got to the apartment I could smell food cooking. I walked into the kitchen and saw Claire stood at the stove with one of my t-shirts on and her hair in a messy bun. As if sensing me, she turned and beamed.
"Hey," she greeted. "Where did you go?"
Ignoring her question, I took a large step forward and got down on my knee, the way I should have the first time. I took the box from my pocket and opened it up to reveal the ring.
"Claire, I love you more than life and I always will. I couldn't imagine my life without you and I want us to be together forever…will you marry me?"
She giggled and nodded. "Yes," she added.
My heart bursting with joy, I placed the ring on her finger and stood to kiss her. Just as it began to heat up, the front door opened.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Aiden yelled. "I'm glad you two are happy and shit but you can't have sex in my kitchen! I eat in here!"
I pulled away and kissed Claire's nose before turning to look at my pack brother.
"Hey Aiden, do you want some breakfast?" Claire asked politely.
"If you don't mind."
"Not at all," Claire grinned. "As long as you don't mind me shoving my ring in your face!" she squealed, jumping forward to show him her hand.
He stared at it for a long time and then blinked. "You two are engaged?" he smiled. "Wow, congratulations!" he laughed, taking Claire into a bear-hug. She went to get the bacon from the grill and Aiden came over to hug me and pat my back. We ate breakfast and then Aiden went to the shop for his shift.
"We should go and tell Aunt Emily and Uncle Sam," Claire commented, admiring her ring. "And my parents, shit, I forgot about them," her eyebrows scrunched together. "Oh, well, they'll get over it eventually."
I left her to talk about who else she wanted to tell while I cleaned our dishes and the stuff she had used to make the breakfast. We showered together and then walked to the Uley house.
"Aunt Emily, Uncle Sam!" Claire shouted immediately. Emily came out the kitchen looking rather panicked. "We're engaged!"
Emily's eyes widened and then she started to scream, rushing over to look at Claire's ring and congratulate us. Sam came to my side after hugging Claire and patted me on the back.
"Congratulations, Quil," he grinned.
"Thanks Sam…and thanks for understanding all those years ago."
He nodded and we watched our imprints gush over the wedding plans. Tyrone, Nathan and Evelyn also joined in the celebrations. After that, we celebrated on our own at my apartment. Over the next few days we had visits from members of the pack coming over to give congratulations and presents.
We also Skyped with the Clearwater's and Black's. Claire, Nessie and Aurora screamed and gushed while Seth and Jacob tried to congratulate me, but couldn't get a word in over their wives so they settled for hand gestures and smiles behind them instead. We also talked to the kids, including the newest addition of the Clearwater family, Juliet Leah Clearwater who had been born March 23rd of this year. She sat in her dad's arms, watching with interest as her siblings and the Black children talked to Claire and I through the webcam and the microphone.
When Claire's parents came home from their trip I promised Claire I would go with her to tell her parents. I held her hand all the way there, it was questionable who was more nervous. Claire walked through the door and greeted her parents with hugs and kisses.
"Mom, dad," Claire gulped, eyeing her parents worriedly. "I have something to tell you," she paused and took a deep breath. "Quil proposed to me on Christmas night and I said yes. We're getting married," she held out her hand to show them the ring for proof.
Her parents stared at the ring for a good minute in silence.
"Oh, my little girl!" Jasmine burst into tears. "She's all grown up!" she cried, taking Claire into a tight hug. "I'm so happy for you two!"
Jasmine let go of Claire and my imprint looked at her dad nervously. Sighing, Oliver hugged her. "Congratulations, honey," he whispered, kissing her head. He turned to me and I held my breath even though it was pretty much impossible for him to hurt me. "And Quil…welcome to the family, son," he smacked me on the back, harder than necessary but I didn't care.
Claire beamed and hugged her dad again.
I cuddled Claire to my body as she talked to her mom about the plans for the wedding. Kissing her temple, I smiled.
We were finally getting our happily ever after.
