Chapter 32: Something blue
Claire's POV.
At the beginning of July the Clearwater's and Black's announced they were going to be in town July 5th until the day after my wedding. Gabby planned a day of none-stop shopping for July 6th to get the bridesmaid dresses and my wedding dress. My bridal party and I were going to Seattle over night while Quil and the ushers were going to Port Angeles with Alice Cullen, who Gabby had called up as she was the only other person she trusted enough to get the right suits for my wedding.
Quil and I awoke on the day of their arrival and dressed to go to the Uley house, where they were all going once Sam and Embry had picked them up from Seattle airport. By the time we got there Sam's car was pulled up outside so I went into the house and saw them around the sofa's with other members of the pack. I let go of Quil's hand I strode over to hug them all, even Harry who was now a teenager and taller than me. He stood next to his dad and with age, he looked ever more like him, especially because Seth still looked in his mid-twenties.
"Here's the beautiful bride!" Nessie chuckled, twirling me. "Are you ready to pick your wedding dress?"
"More than ready," I replied. "I've been waiting for this since he proposed."
Iris, now six and one of the most beautiful kids I had ever seen, smiled at me from Embry's hip. "Aunt Alice says that you're going to look gorgeous in your dress," she said. "She saw you in it."
I took her from Embry and tugged softly on one of her blonde ringlets. "Oh? And do you get a new dress for the wedding, Miss Iris?" I asked.
"Yep, daddy promised me I could get one."
"Honestly Seth," Aurora shook her head. "You need to stop spoiling her so much."
"No he doesn't," Iris interrupted, smiling cheekily.
"Where's the latest addition?" I asked, glancing around for Juliet.
"The last time I saw her she was with Sue," Jacob replied. "But she's been people hopping since we arrived."
I found Juliet in Kim's arms playing with the woman's long hair. When she saw me, she smiled and held out her hands for me to take her. She was a beautiful kid with bright turquoise eyes and wavy golden red hair that complimented her caramel skin. I held Juliet until the last minute when Gabby walked over with Arabella on her hip and said it was time for us to leave. I handed Juliet to an eager Sue and watched Arabella skip over to Billy and climb onto his lap with her sister, Elizabeth. Judy soon joined them, sitting beside her identical twin and resting her head on her shoulder.
I kissed Quil over and over until Nessie dragged me away, muttering about it being Aurora's wedding all over again. We drove down in Emily family sized car and picked up my sister on the way. Our ride to Seattle was full of laughter and it passed quickly. When we got to the shops Aunt Emily pulled into the parking lot and we got out, Gabby and Nora either side of me as they discussed what dress they were looking for.
We looked for bridesmaid dresses first and roamed around the shops looking for yellow ones. Nora and Gabby tried them on for the rest of the bridesmaids and if they liked one, they all tried it on. In our fourth shop I was sat staring at the shoes in the glass casing when Nora and Gabby stepped out.
"I love them," I stated instantly and Aunt Emily nodded.
They were the soft feature yellow I wanted with a sweetheart neckline, thick straps and was chiffon from under the bust onwards, making it perfect for Aurora and Nessie's bumps. The other girls tried them on and like I thought, they looked perfect. Aurora bump, which was larger than Nessie's because not only was she an extra month pregnant but she had also informed us that she was having twins, was also expertly covered by the material.
After buying those and some white silk shoes, we moved on to my most anticipated part, finding my wedding dress!
We bobbed from store to store and I didn't find the right one. Everyone was beginning to get tired and I promised that the seventh store would be my last as we walked inside. I headed into the corner and made my way around with Aurora and Nessie, who weren't tired because of their vampire side, and put dresses into the dressing room. I tried on four dresses and each got a "no" from my bridal party. Sighing, I tried on my last dress, feeling disheartened.
I put the dress on and waited for the sales woman to lace up the back and turned into the mirror…and I loved it. I had feared it would be too much because of the ruffles from the waist down, however, it was perfect. It had a sweetheart neckline and a thick silk strap at my waist, on the right hand side there were a gathering of flowers and jewels. The woman nodded behind me and I smiled.
"It's the one," Nora said as soon as I walked out. The other agreed and I changed into my normal clothes, telling the woman I would take it. She took my measurements and assured me I could pick it up within two weeks thanks to a hefty bribe from Aurora.
I left with a bright smile on my face as we went to get dinner. We ate and went back to the hotel, splitting into twos for the rooms. I stayed with Gabby and as she went into the shower, I called Quil.
"I found my dress," I said giddily.
"That's great," he yawned.
"Tired?"
"Alice Cullen wears me out," he chuckled. "For a little pixie, she can sure talk a lot. We found our suits as well."
"Good, what are they like?"
"They're grey and have a yellow tie, just like you wanted," he reassured me.
I smiled and talked to him until Gabby got out the shower. Saying goodbye to Quil, I chatted to Gabby about the wedding and the bridesmaid dresses. The next morning we headed back to La Push after lunch and went to the Uley's for a while. Quil and I walked back to his apartment and had some alone time. The following weeks passed by in a blur of last minute wedding things and sorting out the guests. My family were all coming down from Makah and wherever else they were at and kept calling me to let me know their plans, though I didn't really have time to listen to how they were getting a flight or cab or bus down.
But finally the day before my wedding came and after a rehearsal dinner, we went for my Bachelorette party. I hadn't wanted anything too big so we went for a fancy meal in Port Angeles and then bar hopped until two when Aunt Emily dragged me home to sleep.
I was woken up by my Aunt Emily at nine and as I opened my eyes, the spare room was turned into a dressing room by various wolf-girls. Aurora took my hand and placed me on a seat in front of a mirror and started on my hair while Nessie and Gabby worked on my make-up. An hour into the makeover Leah Clearwater-Miller appeared with her daughter, Vivian, at her feet and her adopted son, Nicolas, on her hip. Aunt Emily went over to greet her and say hello to her children and then Leah came over, kissing my cheek and chatting about how she could remember me as a little girl. I didn't remember much of Leah, she moved away when I was four and hardly ever came back to La Push. I had saw her a few times over the years, including Seth and Aurora's wedding, and wanted to invite her to the wedding because I knew Quil still saw her as a pack sister, though she had retired many years ago.
As Nessie started my make-up, my heart sped up knowing I was so close to being Mrs Claire Ateara.
Leah smirked at me. "Nervous, Claire-bear?"
"A little," I admitted, blushing. She could probably hear my heart with her still sensitive ears. "But I'm mostly excited."
"You'll be fine, honey," Aunt Emily assured me from the seat in the corner. She held Nicolas in her lap as he played with some of Nathan's toy trucks. "Make sure to hold on to your dad real tight in case you trip, though."
Taking a deep breath, I nodded. Aurora sent me a comforting smile through the mirror and Nora giggled at my obvious discomfort. As Aurora fixed my hair into an intricate up-do, I kept up polite conversation with Leah. Talking to her distracted me from the nerves and excitement that were threatening to burst from my pores.
Soon I was being ordered to move over to the bed while Gabby did my nails white French tipped. When Gabby was called to get her make-up done, Aurora took over, sticking two small yellow flowers on my thumbs and then painted my toenails. After that, everything passed in a flash. My grandma's and mom came to see me, all weeping and gushing about me being the 'baby girl' of the family. Seth popped in to assure Aurora that Juliet, who had an ear infection, was safely with Rosalie and Emmett at Bella and Edward's cottage. Kim delivered the white roses for the ceremony and assured me everything was going fine and that Quil wasn't freaking out.
It seemed like the next time I opened my eyes, I was stood in front of the full-length mirror in my wedding dress.
"Right," Aurora clapped her hands together. "Just some final touches," she smiled and walked over to a small wicker basket on the bed.
Nessie took a small velvet box from Aurora's hands. "Something new," she beamed, opening the box to show a pair of beautiful diamond earrings. She clipped them in my ears and winked. "Something blue," I blushed as she slipped a blue garter onto the top of my right thigh.
"Something old and something borrowed," Aurora murmured pulling me to sit on a chair in front of the mirror. She carefully tied a headband into my hair and I gulped at the sight. It was probably the most expensive and gorgeous piece of jewellery I had ever seen. "I bought it in France for my daughters when they get married," she told me as I gently fingered the sparkling diamonds and elaborate pattern. "And I remembered about it yesterday. I knew you'd love it. Just make sure to take care of it, I know how rowdy those wolves can be."
Clearing my throat of its lump, I stood to hug her. "I will, promise. Thank you," I moved to Nessie. "Both of you."
"No problem, honey," Nessie breathed.
"Now, let's get married!" Nora squealed brightly, grabbing her bouquet from the bed.
I stepped into my shoes and took the bouquet from my Aunt's hands. We shared a smile before we made our way to the car waiting outside to take us to the cliffs.
I smiled as I sat in the car.
I was about to be Mrs Claire Ateara!
