Hermione was enraged at Umbridge because they weren't learning anything in practically all of their classes now, something Bridget suspected upset her more than the fact the woman was taking over the school. They listened to the report saying that it was Sirius Black who responsible for the disappearances of late and they of course all knew it was a lie. Soon he was using the fire to speak to them. "You said you were worried about Umbridge? What's she doing? Teaching you to kill Half-Breeds?"
"Thankfully not yet or else I'd be the practice target." Bridget said.
"Sirius she's not letting us use magic at all." Harry followed up with an actual answer. Sirius went onto explain that Fudge fears them knowing how to use combat magic thinking that Dumbledore is training them to be an army to take over the Ministry. He told them that Voldemort was on the move but that for the moment they were on their own.
Hermione looked out the window, "He really is out there isn't he? We have to be able to defend ourselves. And if Umbridge refuses to teach us how we need someone who will."
Bridget looked at Harry, agreeing with Hermione, "She's right."
"I thought you didn't want to fight." Harry smirked at her.
"I don't but we need to be prepared for a fight." She smiled back at him.
"Will you do it? Will you two teach others how to fight and protect themselves?" Hermione asked.
Bridget and Harry looked at each other and he slowly nodded and she shrugged, "Harry knows more but I'll do what I can."
"Do what you can? Hell, you were the best duelist in the dueling club second year." Ron let out a laugh.
They spread the word to those they knew they could trust to meet them in the Hogs Head the following Saturday. She knew her Aunt would probably be mad at her because of the trouble she may get into but she also knew that she would be proud of her helping to prepare her friends on how to fight and protect themselves from Death Eaters. She sat there awkwardly as people filed in and stared at her and Harry. One asked to know more about how Cedric died and her back stiffened Harry told them that wasn't going to happen and Luna spoke up, "Is it true you can produce a Patronus charm?"
"Yes." Hermione answered, "I've seen it."
"Blimey Harry I didn't know you could do that." Dean spoke shocked.
"And Bridget can disarm and stun someone in the blink of an eye." Ron followed up.
Neville and Ginny spoke up about how Harry had killed the Basilisk in their second year. Hermione finished up their praises by saying, "And last year they really did fight off You-Know-Who in the flesh."
"Harry did most of that. I was a bit…pinned down." She stated her hand going to her side.
"Wait," Harry started, "Look, it all sounds great when you say it like that. But the truth is most of that was just luck. I didn't know what I was doing half the time, I almost nearly always had help." He looked down to Bridget.
"He's just being modest." Hermione interjected.
"No, Hermione, I'm not." He looked to Hermione then back out to everyone, "Facing this stuff in real life is not like school." He placed his hand on Bridgets shoulder and she nodded, letting him speak. He realized now that everyone was looking to them to teach them how to surivive this war what she said during the Holiday was very true, war isn't fun, it isn't something that should be gone into flippantly, "In school if you make a mistake you can just try again tomorrow. But out there…" He looked down at her.
"Out there you don't get a second chance." She looked around at everyone her voice low and soft, "Out there you don't get to redo the moment before you're killed or…or the moment before you watch a friend die."
"Or the moment before you're forced to fight not only for your life but for the life of someone you care about. You don't know what that's like." Harry finished he knew she was the reason he had survived the encounter with Voldemort because she was there with him and she survived because he was there with her, they couldn't have done it without each other.
Bridget sighed as Harry sat down, "We hope you never do."
"You're both right though, we don't know what that's like." Hermione said sitting down as well, "That's why we need your help. Because if we're going to have any chance of beating…Voldemort…"
"He's really back?" Nigel asked.
They both nodded. Fred and George spoke up at the same time, "Sounds like fun. I'm in."
Others agreed too and they began signing up.
As they headed back to Hogwarts they talked about a place to practice trying to figure out a space big enough that Umbridge wouldn't find out about. Ginny then asked what happened if Umbridge did find out and Hermione quickly answered, "Who cares. It's sort of exciting isn't it? Breaking the rules."
"Who are you and what have you done with Hermione Granger?" Ron asked.
Bridget, who was walking in between Fred and George, laughed, "I think I've officially rubbed off on her."
"Took ya a while." Fred said.
"Oh you have no idea the kinds of things she's done over the past few years." She stated with a grin.
"Like what?" George asked.
"Can't tell, it's a secret." She smirked at them before moving to catch up with Hermione.
A few days later Neville showed them the Room of Requirement that he had found and it was brilliant. And it gave George an idea.
Their first meeting she and Harry decided that teaching people how to disarm an opponent would be best so they started with teaching people Expelliarmus first.
She stood at the back of the line while Harry stood with Neville. He tried the spell and his wand went flying back almost hitting Nigel but she caught it in her hand before it did. Harry explained, "You're flourishing your wand too much."
He then gave an example of how to perform the spell as she walked up, handing it back to Neville, "You also have to keep a firm grip on your wand. It trusts you. You have to trust yourself and it. The wand chose you, it knows you can do this."
He smiled at her and did it again, not able to disarm the statue, but he didn't lose control of his wand this time. She smiled at him, "It takes practice."
As the lessons went on they started training in stunning. Bridget stood across from Harry as she explained, "It's a great way to give some distance between you and whoever you're fighting."
"Go ahead then Bridget." Harry said stating he was ready.
"You may want to take a few steps away from the wall." She looked at him. He looked and was still quite a ways away but did as she said then nodded. She quickly flicked her wand, "Stupify!"
Harry went flying back and slid across the floor his head stopping just inches away from the wall. It was the first time he had ever been stunned by her and didn't realize it had that much power. She continued to explain, "The more you practice the more you learn the ways in which are best for you to quickly dispatch a foe from being near you. Harry and I have different ways of doing it, both have very different results. Now Nigel, would you like to give it a try on me?"
The young boy nodded and she then stood where Harry had been standing and the boy across from her. She smiled at the nervous boy, "Go for it."
"Stupify!" He yelled swing his want and they both went flying back in opposite directions and she laughed.
"Great technique, but stay on your feet next time." She stood up and the boy smiled at her as she helped him up.
When it was time for the others to practice Hermione and Ron had been paired against each other and she heard him say, "Don't worry. I'll go easy on you."
Harry leaned over to her, "How bad do you think hes going to regret that?"
"Oh so much." She laughed and when Hermione sent him flying back with a squeal she laughed again.
This was going much better than any of them ever thought it would have.
Remus,
We're doing well here now, trying to figure out ways to stay out of Umbridges inquisition and only somewhat succeeding. No one further has found out about me so that's good. Not many updates other than O.W.L.s are going to be very hard without the proper teaching (I vote you come back to teach D.A.D.A, I quite enjoyed our Bogart training). I hope things get better on your end as well. See you soon for Holiday!
-Bridget
P.S. How's Tonks?
Carrying a bag of something George excitedly led her out of the common room despite her obvious hesitation, "George you're making me nervous."
He laughed at her as they reached the Room of Requirement and a door formed, but not the one for Dumbledores Army. George took her hand before opening the door. When she walked in she smiled as they were in a mix of their homes: the Gryffindor common room and the Weasley living room. She looked up at him, "What's this?"
"I know it's not until tomorrow, but Happy Birthday." He smiled, "I wanted to steal you for the night and couldn't decide where I wanted to take you so I decided to take you somewhere that had all of your homes together."
She couldn't help but let out a laugh, "But how did you get the room to do all of this?"
"I thought I desperately needed a place to take you on your birthday." He pulled her over to the couch that looked like the one in the common room but had a Weasley blanket thrown over the back. He sat the bag on the table in front of them, "To be honest I've been trying to get it to work since we first found the room but I guess the desperation wasn't real until we were right in front of the entrance."
"George Weasley, who knew you were this sweet." She smiled at him as he leaned back on the couch, proud of himself.
"I did of course." He smirked before opening the bag he'd been carrying to reveal an assortment of snacks and drinks.
Bridget looked at it questioningly, "You didn't make those did you?"
"No," He laughed, "I got them from the kitchens. What did you think I would try to give you a fainting fancy or something?"
"You never know, I saw the looks you were giving me when I was talking about the meteor shower!" She popped a sweet into her mouth.
"Because I had no idea you were a closeted astrology and astronomy nut." He picked on her with a smile.
"I am not a nut!" She jokingly defended, "Apparently many Primals enjoy things like that. We enjoy a lot of things that come from nature."
"Apparently?" He asked.
"Yeah, I didn't know it until Trelawney was sacked." She answered leaning over onto his arm as they ate, "Professor McGonagall told me it as we came back down from the tower."
"Are you going to have another exam next summer holiday?" He put his arm around her as they enjoyed the fire across from them.
She nodded, "Probably, I don't know what it'll be yet but I've been practicing everything MacRose taught me and the other things from the book she gave me."
"That book has a lot in it," He handed her pumpkin juice, "It's like you have an extra class even after Dumbledores Army."
"Yeah, but it's worth it." She smiled at him as she took a sip of her drink.
"Whys that?" He pulled her close so that she was leaning on his chest.
"Because of this." She held up her hand, closed at first and as she opened it a stable flame formed and flickered in the palm of her hand. He watched as it took the shape of a bird sitting in her hand then took flight around the room finally landing in the fire across from him.
"Bloody hell, Bridg, when'd you figure out how to do that?" He smiled down at her amazed.
"I've been working on it for a while, I finally perfected it the other night." She laughed, "One day I'll be able to fly just like that bird, apparently with wings and everything. But I'm nowhere near ready for that yet."
He ran his hand down her hair, "That'll be a sight."
"Mhmm." She said her head resting on his chest.
George took the pumpkin juice from her hand and placed it back on the table. He leaned back, resting his head on the arm of the couch with her still laying on his chest. Moments like this had become very rare for them since students were staying up later studying for their O.W.L.s and the only other time they hair on their own was when they went on their runs but students were often around then too. Wrapping his arms around her he had his eyes closed, "Love you."
"I love you too." She smiled, snuggling closer to him leaning up to kiss him on the jaw. He smiled and kissed her on the forehead, then the nose making her laugh. He lifted her chin and kissed her, holding her there for a long moment. Bridget saw him every day, but Merlins beard had she missed him. She lifted herself up as the kiss deepened so that he wasn't arching his neck so much and his hand tangled in her hair.
As their tongues tangled she moved to where she had her legs on either side of his. As she hovered above him his hands moved down her back, landing on her hips, his fingertips putting pressure on her hips. Without his hand in her hair it fell around their faces and they began to laugh as it tickled them. She pulled away slightly, tucking one side behind her ear, moving it around her neck so that it only fell on one side. Running her thumb over his cheek she stared at him for a moment. A smile formed on his face, "What?"
"Nothing, just wonder what I did to deserve this."
"Must have saved the Queen in a past life." He smirked back at her.
She grinned, "Or killed her depending on how you look at it."
He faked being insulted and moved his hands to tickle her and she laughed as she tried to fight back. She was unable to fight him much as he was stronger than her and through her laughter she yelled, "Damn beaters!"
George couldn't help but laugh at her even more as she cursed at him trying to stop him from his attack and eventually she got a hold of his hands, intertwining their fingers so he could do no more damage. She hovered above him, using his hands as a way to keep her body steady, noses almost touching. He leaned up to kiss her but she used his hands to push away. Smiling, he tried again but she again moved away, just looking down at him with a smile ghosted across her lips. After a moment the smile on her face grew, "Yeah, I definitely must have saved her."
He laughed releasing one of his hands from hers and using it to pull her back into a kiss. They stayed like this until it grew late and they begrudgingly headed back to the common room, only releasing their hands once they reached the portrait of the Fat Lady as the curfew bell rang. She joined Hermione in a corner as George went over to Fred.
Hermione whispered, "So what was it he dragged you off for?"
"You know, just a little surprise for my birthday." She smiled at her friend, picking up the book MacRose had given to her.
"Oh really?" Hermione smirked at her, "What was it?"
"Just some alone time with some snacks…" Bridget answered innocently.
"Two hours' worth of snacks?" Hermione questioned.
"Maybe a bit of snogging." Bridget muttered making sure Hermione was the only one that heard.
Hermione let out a slight laugh and Bridget soon followed it. They both broke out laughing after a moment of trying to hold it back and they got a few stares from people all around the common room, including Fred and George, the latter wearing a small smirk. The two girls tried to repress their laughter but couldn't so they quickly went up the stairs to their dormitory. They continued to laugh and Hermione was finally able to catch her breath, "Only a bit of snogging?"
Bridget wiped her eyes, "It's been a while since we've laughed that hard. We may finally be succumbing to the pressures of our O.W.L.s."
"Or to the fact that things are finally going well this year." Hermione sat down on the bed. They both took deep breaths and leveled out their breathing, "I'm glad you both finally got some actual alone time though."
Bridget let out a slight laugh, "I'll make sure next time we aren't gone quite that long."
"That's fine, just come up with a better lie next time." Hermione smiled again.
They were at their last session before Holiday break and Bridget noticed Harry heading for Cho, only to be interrupted by Fred and George. She quickly called to them trying to get them out of the way so Harry could be alone with the girl. The twins quickly came up to her, George asked, "What was that about?"
"Come on, are you two blind? He clearly likes Cho." She looked between them, "Gotta give them their space, let it blossom."
"Ahh, like how Hermione and I do you and George?" Fred asked.
"Yes, but not so blatantly." She spoke flatly as they returned to the common room.
She watched as the twins went off to work on their business and sat with Ron and Hermione talking until Harry returned.
