In the pure darkness that surrounded the group, only a small sound was heard.

Short ragged gasps emanated through the empty night. Sweat poured down the pour creature's face and neck. The girl on his chest and the boy at his legs were startled awake. They, too, had looks of fear on their faces, but hardly as severe. Instantly they heard the gasps and began to shake the poor boy awake.

"Danny!" Sam called quietly, not wanting to alert anyone else of his pain. He instantly was shook awake by the sound of his name. Tears in his eyes rattled his friends, who thought so much of he and his courage that his fear was uncommon.

His arms instantly went around their necks in a hug. The pair rubbed his back and neck in hopes on calming him. "I-I-I'm so-sor-ry," he mumbled, and was about to continue when Sam stopped him.

"Danny, shh. It's alright. We aren't even upset about that," Danny choked back tears again, and sighed.

"I-I thought I c-could get them un-under control this t-time," Tucker held his shoulder and gave his brother a genuine smile.

"Danny, how would we be able to help you if you got it under control so quickly we wouldn't be part of it," Tucker tried to reason, "And besides, we could never experience it like a halfa does, anyway."

"A-and because of th-that I envy y-you," Danny teased a smile on his face. He wrapped his best friends in protective arms, and shut his eyes, waiting for the light of day.

When the trio next opened their eyes, the sky was illuminated with the daily light ectoplasm gives off. The first thing in Danny's mind remained there for a long time: I wish I could become Phantom... I want to go ghost...

Regardless he stood, and stretched his sore back. Smiling at his preparedness, he opened his old blue book-bag and pulled out a loaf of bread(16 slices), peanut butter, and ecto-Grape jelly that he carried in case of emergencies.

Being half-ghost, he had an incredible amount of power and strength, which meant his ghost core required more ecto-energy than only half a core could produce. In a way, he had what reflected a ghostly diabetes. Normally daily, and at the very least every other day, he would be in the ghost zone in his ghost form, which allowed him to absorb ghostly energy from the atmosphere. Some days, however, when he was too sick, or busy to go to the ghost zone or transform he had to receive the energy in other ways. So he had a stash of ecto-enduced food from the ghost zone. The grape-jelly tasted terrible, but had the highest concentration of Ectoplasm, which made it perfect to have in-case of low-ecto emergencies.

But as soon as he looked around him, he realized that he wouldn't be able to eat it, anyway. The high etco-concentration would be too high for any other human. And he knew how people could be: you have something, I want it, too. He sighed and began to make peanut-butter sandwiches for everyone. By the time everyone had awoken, he had made 16 peanut butter sandwiches folded over. Eagerly each student and chaperon grabbed one and began to dig in.

"Geez, Fenton. Didn't think a shrimp like you'd carry food on a week-long expense paid trip... or at least what was supposed to be," Dash almost-sorta-kinda complimented.

"Uh, yeah. After the summer camp thing, I never wanted to be ill-prepared again," Danny mumbled in response. He turned the uneaten sandwich over in his hand, looking over his classmates. After a moment he stood, walking over to Mikey (that's the real little ginger, right?). "Hungry?" he mumbled, observing that the sandwich was being eaten slowly, with only a bite left- a sure sign that the twig of a nerd wanted to make the meal last longer.

"Yeah," the teenager devoured the final bit of the peanut-butter-and-bread-combo. Danny sighed, standing to his full height again. He looked around him. These people, these people were selfish, misunderstanding, confused. They wouldn't understand unless he gave them an explanation.

"Um, excuse me, guys," Danny interrupted the breakfast chatter. Everyone looked up at him, a lack of respect but a sense of curiosity in each pair of eyes. "I just wanted to explain this, so no one would get angry... Because I'm not hungry and Mikey had a lower body mass than all of us, I'm going to give him my sandwich. Please don't think I'm playing favorites, because if I was this would be in Sam, Tuck's or my parents hands already." There were few sounds of agreement and a few angry glares at Mikey. Danny stood quickly in front of him his legs blocking Mikey's eyes. "If you want to be angry," he threatened, "be angry with me. And this trek will be much less enjoyable for everyone if there's an angry Fenton leading," finishing his sentence with a hint of sarcasm.

All was quiet as they trekked on. The trio at least 70 paces ahead made more human paths for the people behind them. "You should've had that sandwich," Sam mumbled under her breath as she helped roll a rock to the side.

"I'm low, Sam. It would have just made me weaker," he grumbled pushing a boulder twice his father's height.

"Didn't you pack the grape jelly?" she questioned, a more gentle sound to her voice.

"Yup," Danny stated finally removing the rock from their path.

"Why didn't you eat some?" Sam reprimanded, a glare accenting her Gothic features.

Mouth stays shut, mouth stays shut... Tucker reminded himself, having decided to stay out of this argument. It wasn't often, but when they were all under more stress than usual, often Sam and Danny would engage in some (very) heated conversations.

"People would want it if they saw I had it; it's called human survival instincts," Danny raised his brow at her, obviously tired of the whole thing.

Instantly Sam's brows lowered and a growl rose in her throat. Low blow, dude... Tucker sighed. Insulting Sam's survival instincts or independence was a VERY unwise move, especially when she was already ticked at you.

"So how come you don't seem to have any? You were human once, you know!" Sam growled. Tuck made an 'ooh' shape with his mouth, lower blow, dude...

Danny stayed silent, although it was easy to see he was upset. He breathed deep and made his was over to her, somehow much calmer than before. "You know," Danny mumbled as he laid his arms over her shoulders from behind in a gentle hug, "I'd never think of you as human. You're far too capable, and smart, and beautiful, and perfect to be human; or even of having petty, pathetic, human survival instincts." He kissed where her jaw and neck met, and bowed his head over her shoulder.

"Don't try that with me," Sam warned, but Danny refused to oblige. He stepped in front of her, shifting so his arms crossed over her shoulders and his forehead touched hers.

"My Gothic princess, please don't be mad," he mumbled, giving her his hugest puppy-dog eyes.

"Danny," Sam mumbled her warning tone remained but was slowly diminishing.

"Sammy," Danny replied a smiled growing on both of their faces. Tucker smiled, sighing contently; thank God Danny knew just how to butter her up. Danny grinned widely and picked her up bridal style, causing her to squeal. He flipped her swiftly around him, so he was carrying her piggy-back style.

Both had seemed to forget about their entire spat. They all were too wrapped up in the fun of their playing. The world around them disappeared as they ran in circles, and tickled each other.

Children, again.

Finally something caught Tucker's eye and snapped him out of their playful daze. "Um, guys," Tucker caught their attention, "We're here."

Danny gently let Sam down, and they all gazed at the huge castle. They would never get over how enormous and majestic Clockwork's castle was from the ground. Danny gave them both a smile, and kissed Sam's cheek.

"Wait here for them to catch up, I'll talk to Clockwork and then let you all in," the Halfa took charge again. He was really rather good at the role of a leader, but in Casper High that could never be realized. He quickly approached the gate knocking on the bars as if he were The Big Bang Theory's Sheldon. knock knock knock- "Clockwork?" knock knock knock- "Clockwork?" knock knock knock- "Clockwork?"

The doors parted, inviting him in. They seemed almost happy for the humorous teen to have returned. He made his way quickly up to the main room of the Tower, where Clockwork spent most of his time.

"Clockwork?" he questioned again, looking around him for the alleged ghost.

"Daniel, thank ghouls!" came the greeting, as a young Clockwork floated up to him, almost tackling him in a hug. "I was afraid I had interpreted the wrong timeline. Yet, here you are; fit as day."

"I'm fine, Clockwork," Danny smiled, then it turned to an odd frown, "But I haven't seen any ghosts on my way here... What's happened?"

Clockwork shifted to his older form, and lead Danny to the dinning area where they'd chatted so many times. Inside were hundreds of ghosts; Skulker, Lunch Lady, Wulf, Technus, The Box Ghost, and several others. "Clockwork, what's going on?" Danny asked, suddenly scared.

"Trechor-Us has returned," Clockwork replied, the sadness in his voice breaking through. Instantly his face lit up again, "But you, yo-"

He was interrupted when a small grey and black form tackled Danny completely. "Dani?" the older Halfa asked the form, which revealed her face happily.

"Danny!" She squealed, hugging him tight. "I missed you, dad," she mumbled into his chest. He instantly held her in his arms as tightly as he could, tears threatening to spill out of his eyes. As he struggled to hold them back, she began to let them fall. Still cradling her in his arms he stood, and rocked her back and forth. She clung to him, her face, though now soaked in tears, remained cheerful. Simultaneously they both sniffed back up their remaining tears and sighed. He shifted her so she rested in only one arm, and looked to Clockwork.

"I'm sorry, what were you saying?

"Wait, Clockwork! Have you told 'im yet, have ya? Cause I kinda wanted to..." Dani interrupted again, her huge puppy-eyes meeting his old and wise ones.

"I'll explain, and then you can tell him," the ghost replied as he shifted to his oldest nodded eagerly, and Clockwork took them aside. "Because, Daniel, you have defeated not only Vlad and Pariah Dark, but also Undergrowth, Vortex, the Fright Night, and Dan all of whom had, at the time you'd defeated them, defeated the Observants. It has come to my attention that-"

"You're the king, Dad!" Dani exclaimed, interrupting yet again. Danny smiled at her.

Then it sunk in.

"WHAT?! HOW COULD I BE KING? I'M ONLY A HALFA, AND A TEENAGER AT THAT! OH MY REALMS, OH GHOULS! WHAT TH-" a ghostly hand covered his mouth, muffling his words.

"I'll take my hand off, if you don't yell," Clockwork offered. Danny nodded, and sighed as Clockwork released him. "Daniel, I tell you this not because it is the right time, but because the zone is being threatened." Danny cringed, "I've already informed you of Trechor's return. The Observants are backing down, because that is what they observed was a worthwhile decision. But without a ruler, the ghosts are in grave danger." He placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, "You may refuse the crown, if you choose. But unless you take it and defeat Trechor in it's name, he will destroy us."

Danny nodded, gulping in fear. Clockwork gave him a genuine smile as he shifted to his child-like form. "Now," the time-ghost tried to lighten the mood, "Let's relax and allow your friends inside."

"So, I guess I'm the king, now," Danny whispered; he was standing outside the guest hall, where their classmates and chaperons socialized, completely unaware of the thousands of ghosts in the dining hall above them. Sam and Tucker combed over the idea for a moment.

"It'd wouldn't be so bad..." Tucker tried to reason, "There would definitely be fewer ghost attacks in the human realm, if you were king here."

"But, I don't know anything about ruling... And then there's Trechor..." Danny mumbled worriedly.

"Hey; it's nothing you have to decide right now," Sam comforted, placing her hand on his shoulder, "Why don't we try to focus on getting everyone back to Amity, and then, once everything's calmed down, we can decide what to do."

Danny gave Sam a smile, and placed his arms around her and Tucker. "Yeah, time is on our side." His ears perked up and he crouched into his fighting position, but instead of fists his hands were opened, welcoming. Dani's human form ran towards him again, and tackled him. They began to playfully wrestle and spar until a pinned Danny's head landed at the toe of a black combat boot. Dani noticed the combat boot and jumped up, wrapping Sam in a tight hug.

"Mom!" she squealed, a few tears of joy leaking out at the sight of Sam. Sam returned the hug, a few stray tears falling as well.

"How's my favorite halfa?" Sam asked, holding Dani out to look her in the eye. Dani snickered, knowing that Danny was pouting, still lying on the ground.

"I'm the greatest, now that you guys found me!" Sam smiled, kissing the top of her forehead. Tucker ruffled her hair, and helped Danny to his feet.

"Believe you me, honey," Danny smiled, and picked the little girl up from Sam's arms, "I've been thinkin' tons about you. And you remember our deal, right?" Dani nodded vigorously.

When they had last met, Frostbite had informed Dani, Jazz, Sam, Danny, and Tucker that Dani was Sam and Danny's daughter. And the idea was wonderful, but Danielle had been traveling her whole life: it wouldn't be easy to give that up, especially when there was so much of the world she had plans to see. Not to mention, that between Sam, Tucker and Danny and Danny's secret there wouldn't be any definite place for her to stay without jeopardizing their own parental relations. It had proven best that while Team Phantom built a place for her to sleep until graduation, that Danielle would continue her travels. And the next time they met, Danielle would come and stay with her parents, aunt, and Tucker.

"We built the perfect little tree-fort for you. In the tree where Sam and I met when we were kids. I can't wait for you to go home, and have Jazz show you the place." Danny smiled.

"Wait- why can't you show me the place?" Dani questioned, stubborn curiosity accenting her voice.

"Dani, I've got to escort all these humans back to Amity," Danny reasoned. "And it's safer if you go home straight away... Trechor's returned, and I don't want you getting hurt."

"You're forgetting, Dad," Dani countered, her eyes glowing green, "A kick-butt king like you is gonna need a kick-butt princess to keep these teens in line."
