To begin... The last chapter was based off of my favorite version of these types of stories, Strength. And though I haven't personally asked WildFireBurnstheForest for their permission to use that idea, I promise I only used it because I loved the concept so much. If it offends them, or they just plain-out don't like me using it, I will delete and replace that chapter at the drop of the hat. Honestly, I respect WildFireBurnsTheForest too much not to.
Now that that's outta the way...
A list of the people who got the trivia correct!
SilverWolf01 - Who got a hundred on their astronomy test? You did! You did! Good SilverWolf01!
Guest - Uhm... yeah... that wasn't exactly it, but you were close enough as everyone else to count... SO I won't it against ya! :D
DevilDragon713 - excellent! Bravo, Misiour Dragon!
Golden Lunar Eclipse -isn't it funny how we can so clearly remember every fic and A/N when a relation subject is mentioned
Rainosa - Oh, yeah... hehe, guess I gave you guys an unfair advantage, huh?
And uh...technically it's his name is Perceus... not Percy Jackson. The answer I was looking for was actually Perseids, but you were all close.
SO I don't own By the light of the silvery moon, or Family Force 5(best band ever)'s Wake The Dead, and I don't own Danny Phantom.
Quandary had shown us all to our (far comfier than the ground) rooms. I think it might've freaked my peers and parents out when Quand didn't have to show Tucker, Sam, Dani, and I where our room was.
Oh, well... Screw it.
"Danny," Quand asked, stopping me in the hall.
"Yessir,"I turned, attentive.
"You did excellent today. And I'd like to be the first to say that I'm proud of you."
"Awe, Quand. You're questions are always easy," I replied, blushing lightly. Because it didn't come very often from adults, I still couldn't find the way to take compliments very well.
"I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about how wonderfully you lead each group of people through a question that they could understand. You were graceful and humble and patient. I have no doubt you'll rule wonderfully."
My eyes widened, "I never told you about that!"
He chuckled, "No, but Clockwork told each of your less-mouthy allies. Dora, Frostbite, and myself included."
"Oh, well... uh, yeah, that makes sense," I smiled awkwardly, and he chuckled.
"Anyway, I have a favor to ask of you," He raised a brow.
"Yeah, sure, anything."
"Could you and your friends preform for my and the work? We've been cooped up in here for too long. And some entertainment would be calming," He looked to me with begging eyes, and I smiled easily.
"Sure. Early, tomorrow morning. I'll handle ya," I smiled and instantly there was an extra weight on my back. Too light to be Sam or Danielle... I grabbed it and smiled to see my custom-made bass that Sam had gotten me for my birthday.
"I figured you'd need this," he offered. "I'm beginning to pick-up minor teleportation. And that's thinner than your old guitar."
I chuckled and thanked him before excusing myself to my room. I opened to door to let myself in, and was startled by Dani's loudly childish voice.
"Whatcha got there, Daddy?" She asked, instantly spying my sleek black beauty. Deep, black fingerboard and body, with a silver-white pickguard. Neon green dots and headstock accenting it. The pickup, bridge and tuning keys were all real silver, the nut and frets white gold.
Sam was too good to me.
But better than the sweet design, was the beautiful sound. Deep and graceful and smooth. Tucker once (over-exaggeratedly) said that my wail could drive a person mad. I swore that this bass could make anyone sane. As if it's smooth sound could heal any illness and ban any unease from a person's mind.
"The world's finest bass. A gift from your mother," I explained, fingering the tabs.
Just the touch of this grand instrument could ban any unease from my mind.
"Play something for me," Dani requested, and I shook my head.
"Well... maybe... But we should get washed up for dinner, first," I replied, and she sighed making a pouty face. Tucker looked to me.
"How could you say no to that?" he teased. I rolled my eyes.
I strummed a C, high on the fingerboard. Then got down on one knee in front of Sam.
"By the light," I sang, making Sam chuckle at the stupid grin I wore. "Of the silvery moon"
"I want to spoon
To my honey, I'll
croon love's
tune." I smiled, repeating the pattern once before continuing,
"Honey moon
keep shining in ju-u-une.
your silver beams will bring loves dreams
We'll be cuddlin' soon
BY the silvery moon." I kept playing my bass like a uke', holding back it's true potential. She kissed my nose, and I stood.
" I don't know," I sang the same melody as I had before, just different words
"how the resta this song
go-oes..." I paused... I didn't even know how to finish the song... Time for a bass rift!
I shifted to a trippin' scale, and then shout-sang, "SO I'LL JUST PLAY ROCK'N'ROLL
UNTIL MY HEART'S CONTENT!" I smiled and continued to tickle the strings with my fingertips.
"Content, yet, honey?" I teased Sam, who rolled her eyes in response.
"Perfectly, dearest," her tone dripping with honey. I strummed my final cord and earned applause from Danielle.
"No love from the teens? Can I only impress kids now?" I teased them, and earned a dull addition to Danielle's clapping. "Thank you! Thank you!" I bowed.
"You're holding back that instrument's real potential, dude," Tucker informed Danielle, more than me. I already knew that, but it was short and I didn't have to get puppy eyes for two hours straight.
"I know," I replied, and placed the precious gift on a high, sturdy shelf. It was a pretty durable, but I didn't want to risk it.
Luckily, Sam, Tuck, and I had plenty of clean clothes here with Quandary. He let us stay the night, and get patched up here often. Not-so-luckily, Dani had never had any clean clothes, to begin with.
Even-more-luckily, Sam 's grandma taught her how to sew like a pro.
My spare denim jeans and t-shirt were instantly transformed into a denim sweatshirt lined in soft cotton. And Tucker's cargo pants into cargo shorts. Everything was clean, and fit her perfectly. Dani spun in them and hugged the 'slightly-too-long' sleeves against her. "I feel so much better!" She exclaimed and I smiled at her. Each room had a shower, and I had no doubt everyone was going to feel loads better when we got to dinner.
All clean and happy, we made our way down to Quandary's dinning hall. He wasn't very gourmet, like Cuisinier Slush in the Far Frozen, but always had enough.
As everyone ate, Jack scooted his seat, so he sat by me."Danny?" I jumped and faced my father in a fighting pose. At seeing it was just dad, I relaxed and chuckled off the mistake.
"Sorry," I gave a nervous smile.
"No, no. It's fine, Danny-boy!" He clapped me on the back , just hard enough to cause pain. "So, I was wondering," He put his pointer fingers together in a tent, "how did you know all those answers, today?"
"What?" I asked, and his father repeated the question. "You think I was lying?" I questioned, upset.
"Well... it's not like you do very well in school, and I just thought-" My dad began, but was interrupted.
"Dad, there's a difference between school and here," I stated. "More than my future is on the line when I'm here."
"Well, I know that, it's just-" Dad was interrupted again.
"Just that you thought I wasn't smart at all," I asked. Jack shook his head, then shrugged. I sighed, "I get it. It's okay... I wasn't lying, though, dad."
"Well... You're a Fenton! And obviously smarts runs in the genes."
"So does diarrhea," I muttered under my breath. Sam and Tucker began to snicker.
"What was that?" Jack questioned.
"Nothing, dad. Just a little joke," I replied. Dad smiled, and ruffled my hair before going back to sit by mom.
So after dinner and everyone writing letters for Quand to send back to Earth and other important things, we were all retiring to our rooms. Dani was already asleep, bless her heart, and Sam was painting a new coat of dark violet onto her toes.
It was always odd to me, to see her without her cherished combat boots. I could tell it was odd to Tucker, too, since he could relax more around her. The threatening heavy boot couldn't really become a threat unless it was actually on Sam's foot. Maybe she always wears them because she thinks she needs to have a threat if danger comes her way, I thought, being sure to keep my thoughts shut off from my friends. It was a sad thought, since Sam would always have me. I promised her that.
I shook the thoughts from my mind, and began to focus on a key/soundboard. The wiring, and switches being built in my mind. I held out my hands, and shaped the board.
From my mentor Frostbite, I was learning to control and shape ice from only the water molecules in the air. I could make ice-bikes, ice-snowmobiles, anything!
And from my mentor Clockwork, I was learning that I could manipulate the ecto in the atmosphere with my emotions and powerful presence.
A few months ago, I learned that I could combine them. I could take the ecto-molecules from the air, which was easy in the GZ and barely doable on Earth, and shape them. Heating and cooling and hardening them, I could make anything from ectoplasm and ice. The most advanced I'd ever made was a two-foot-tall model of an orbiter. The wiring was of ghost ice, which made a great conductor. And the outside was green in ecto. I even tested it, and now it forever flies around a huge globe that was kept in the Far Frozen in case of human-world emergencies.
This sound/key board would be a piece of cake, in comparison to that model.
After about half-an-hour of molding and shaping the device, finally, it was finished. A job well done, I though, and set the glistening green sound/key-board on the ground.
"You willin' to play this for me tomorrow, T-Man?" I asked, admiring my handiwork.
"What's tomorrow?" He asked, then looked up to the complete sound-board. "Woah..."
"Yeah; Quand' wanted me to perform for him tomorrow, since things have been kinda boring for him locked up in here. I figure I owe the guy as much," I couldn't help noticing Tucker's eyes glaze over my bass on it's shelf.
"Are you gonna really play it?" Sam asked, looking up from her toes. I shrugged.
"Maybe. I had a song in mind, and so we're gonna get up early to perform for him tomorrow."
"Great way to get girls, Danny; playin' guitar at six-a.m. so no one will get up to hear you," Tuck rolled his eyes at me. I levitated my bass to myself, and plopped down beside Sam, jostling her nail polish, and earning myself a glare.
"I've already got a girl, thank you." I began to tune the four string'd instrument. "And besides, she's gonna sing with me."
"What?" She asked, raising a brow at me. "Before you volunteer a lady for some random performance, it's only polite to ask her permission," she said in a nasal voice that sounded strangely like her mother's.
"But he wasn't asking a lady. He was asking you," Tucker laughed, and Sam stuck her tongue out before retaliating.
"mmmh-ghh..." Dani's sleep was interrupted by the stewing pillow-fight. I couldn't help but smile at her, and sit on her bed. Smiling at the perfectly-tuned bass, I began to play.
(A/N: it's supposed to sound like this: www. you tube. com watch?v=QTbePfQUaGg without the spaces.)
My fingertips lightly tickled the strings, and the sweet vibrations calmed my little girl and my friends right down. I shifted my fingers and slowly let the tune die. Sam and Tucker's breathing was even more even than before. Smiling I kissed Dani's head and tucked her in.
"No more fights for tonight," I whispered through my smirk. Sam and Tuck smiled nervously, and got ready for the night. Sam and Tucker, now ready for bed, kissed Dani's forehead before lying down, themselves. I smiled, and kissed Sam before lying down.
Wasn't my family perfect?
Six o'clock came too quickly, but I was still excited to play. Fluffing my hair, and cleaning my face, I began to get ready for the day. Sam and Tucker woke shortly after me, and began to get ready, themselves.
As soon as we all were ready, I woke up Danielle. She wasn't eager to wake up, but was well rested. She'd been spending most of her time asleep, the past few days, simply because there was nothing else to do. That, and she was growing up. Not-even three and tougher than nails deserved to sleep when she could.
But it wasn't healthy, so I didn't feel very bad when I had to drag her half-way sleeping form off the bed and put her the cold path of the shower's water. She instantly snapped awake. "Whaddya do that for, Dad?" she complained. I smiled, and pulled off her sweater and shorts, revealing her white cami and blue boxer-briefs. I wrapped her up in a towel, and ruffled her hair dry.
"You wouldn't get up, so I got you up, sugar," I teased and pulled the now-clean blue sweater down over her head. Her arms squirmed into the sleeves, and she rewarded me with a soft smile. She put the clean red shorts on for herself, and I kissed her head. "Thought you'd want to see me play for Quand and his crew?"
At this her smile widened, and she jumped up. As she began to run out of the bathroom, I grabbed the elastic of her pants and pulled her back to face me. "Before we go anywhere, you have to brush your teeth." She groaned at me and I handed her a new toothbrush (still in one of those god-forsaken people-proof packages). She and I quickly brushed our teeth, like Sam and Tucker had thought of doing first.
At first, I had always believed that she and I were exactly alike. Tastes, attitude, the whole shebang. But lately I had been seeing more and more aspects of her that weren't like me at all. If my dad had pulled me back by my pants like that, I'd be super embarrassed, even if we were the only ones in the room. And if he had followed up by telling my to brush my teeth like I just had, her, I'd have tried to insist that my breath smelled fine. But here she stood beside me, and brushed her teeth in sync with me. Not embarrassed in the least. I couldn't help myself, Such a good girl, I thought. We both spat out the toothpaste into the sink, and greeted each other with warm smiled.
"So have you ever watched anime, or read any manga?" She asked. I smiled at her, she was simply proving my point further. She was her own person, especially since I'd only heard of anime/manga a few times, and all were from Sam and her cousin, I think.
"No, I can't say I ever have. Do you like it?" I asked, and we made our way out of the bathroom. I greeted Sam with a good-morning kiss, before she handed Danielle her hat, and Danielle continued.
"Yeah, I picked it up while visiting Tokyo and Japan. It's really great! And I can now sing in Japanese, and draw pretty well!" I couldn't help laughing at the proud smile she wore. I smiled and picked her up, setting her upon my shoulder.
"Can you sing the opening to your favorite anime in Japanese?" I asked. She smiled and Sam seemed to pick up on what we were talking about.
"Wait, do you know Kaze No Stigma?" Sam asked, and Dani nodded.
"yeah! Kazuma's so dreamy!" the little girl said, resting her elbows on my head, and then her head on her hands.
"Kazuma?" I asked. I'll admit, I knew true love could sneak up on you any age. Look at me, for pete's sake! But I still didn't know how to feel about my little girl swooning over some guy.
"Oh, yeah. He's a hottie," Sam replied.
I raised a brow, "What?"
"But I love Senpai Ryoshi from Okami-San and her Seven Companions more," Sam said, ignoring me.
"That's my second favorite! Senpai Ryoshi reminds me a ton of Daddy, and you're as tough as Okami, Momma!"
I was sooo confused. Senpai? What the hell did 'Senpai' mean?
"Fruit's basket has to be the top, though."
"But the manga's so much better than the anime!" Sam disagreed.
"I know, but they were so spot-on with the character designs, how can you dislike it?"
"True," Tucker added his two-cents. "But I think Ouran High School Host Club is better than them all."
"That's just because it's the only one you've ever bothered to watch!" Sam lamented.
"What's Senpai?" I asked quietly through their fighting.
"I don't care, it's cool! So is Girls Bravo."
"You would think so!" Dani chorused with Sam.
"What's Senpai?" I asked a bit louder. They continued arguing, and concurring on different aspects of different shows. I grew frustrated. "What in Sam-Hell is Senpai?!" I asked, or more so yelled.
They all rolled their eyes at me. "Senpai is a Japanese honorific that describes a boy that you respect, often in a higher rank than you," Tucker tried to explain.
"He's often in a higher class or rank than you, and is supposed to help the younger less-experienced students."
"In that way he's related to the sensei, or master," Sam finished for them.
"So when you're calling someone 'Senpai', you just mean..."
"That he's an upperclassman, older than you, or very respectable," Dani answered from above my head.
"Oh." I smiled. I just learned something new:
My daughter understood Japanese more than I ever would.
We finally made it outside and I was already promised to watch full seasons of five different animes.
Great. When would I ever learn to say 'no' to one of my girls... Or Tucker.
Quandary had a stage set up right outside the main building. On it sat the key/sound board I had made last night, a cedar chest of small instruments to the left, and a neon green set of acoustic drums. Sam was already running her fingers around the silver rim of the second drum. I know she will never be a morning person, but she was so beautiful in the early light. I couldn't help it when my arms found their way around her waist and my lips to her cheek. She turned her head and we looked at each other for a minute, before kissing each other again. I could feel some of her still-wet, purple lipstick rub off onto my lips, but I didn't really care. We pulled back and She smiled at my lips. "You got a little," She said, motioning to the side of my mouth. I shrugged.
"I kinda like it." we both laughed, and Tucker made his way over to see what was up. [What was Dani doing? Well, she was enjoying scouring through the cedar chest for something to play. She knew if it was funny, Tucker would invite her over.] He laughed at me, and then whispered something to Sam. She smirked, and reapplied her lipstick. I raised a brow, but wasn't really concerned when Sam began covering me in kissed.
And Tucker just laughed.
Quandary's workers and servants were beginning to come in for the performance. Dani found a trumpet that's bell looked strangely like our shared DP symbol. But I couldn't really focus on that. Sam was still kissing me. My cheek, my nose, my brow; all covered in purple lip prints. She finally pulled back, and Tucker snapped a picture. Sam chuckled under her breath, "That smile!" She laughed. "You're a-dork-able, Danny!" I chuckled in reply.
Sam wiped off my face just before all of Quandary's help and servants had filed in. I gave her cheek a light kiss before I went to the front of the stage. I yelled a happy 'good-morning', and my response was a hundred of so yawns. I laughed, and noticed that trying to pep them up would be futile. Sighing, I nodded to Sam and Tucker. Dani sat back next to Sam, and I started the melody on my bass.
[Danny]
I got opposition every single day
You always want the same thing done the same old way
Funny how you always think you're always right
Who died and made you God, and did it happen overnight?
[Tucker and Danny]
Don't dance like that anymore
Don't wear those clothes anymore
Don't take that stance anymore
Turn it down, do what you're told
If it's too loud, well then you must be too old
[All]
Wake up the dead now
Make 'em roll in their graves now
Shake up the dead now
Rising up from the ground
Wake 'em up, shake 'em down
[Danny as a video of Phantom's battles played behind him]
You like to watch and judge my life up on the screen
You figured out what goes on behind the scenes
Got a rumor that you want to show and tell
Nobody's gonna buy the lie you're trying to sell
[Sam and Danny]
Don't talk like that anymore
Don't speak your mind anymore
Don't think those thoughts anymore
Turn it down, do what you're told
If it's too loud, well then you must be too old
[Danny]
Wake up you sleepy heads get out of bed
If we make some noise we'll wake the dead
Make 'em roll in their graves when they hear this sound
Raise 'em up from the ground, turn 'em upside down
I shook the bass so the sound would vibrate a bit longer. Smiling I looked up to the roaring crowd of ghosts.
Well, I thought I was just ghosts.
I was told later by Dani that they began to file in around the 'Don't talk' line. Apparently we had played loud enough that most of the students and chaperons had come to see what was up.
I was surrounded by not only applauding ghosts but drop-jaw'd people. Instantly I backed up, scared of their thoughts and assumptions. What if they saw the phantom clips? They began to clap, but instead of encouraging me (and I could tell it was the same for Sam, Tucker, and Dani) it terrified me. I wanted so badly to transform and tell them all to back off. To hold Dani and Sam and Tucker behind me and yell at anyone who got too close to my family.
My family.
My brother.
My daughter.
My girlfriend.
At that thought, I began to miss my sister. Sure, I wasn't nearly as possessive over her - if I was she'd try to diagnose me with some rare abnormality to the brain because I felt that just because she was my sister, that she was, in fact, mine.
No.
But I was protective of her, as much as I was protective of the rest of my family. Especially around boys. Because, although I am merely a boy, I am also a father. I was beginning to understand how my dad felt about all the guys she dated. Even the not-bad-or-in-any-way-ghostly ones, namely Johnny.
I was beginning to like the guy, but if he ever came near Jazz again.
When did I ever let my mind wander this far from the situation at hand?
I was loosing it.
I shook my head clear of thoughts, and turned to Dani. She came up to me and it took everything in me to not pick her up. She saw it and instead held my hand. God, Dani, you're maing it so much harder to not hold you, I thought. Sam and Tucker followed her.
Sam took my hand and Tucker took hers. We stood looking at each other for a moment. Swallowing down my fear, I held our hands up.
And we all ignored the applause as we bowed.
Wow! 4,334 words! That's my longest chapter yet! Review, please. You never know how much it means!
