A/N: Yet another late update. I apologize, life and stuff. I actually think updates will be further spread apart. Not only do I have college starting up next week, but I've just had to force myself to write just this little bit. It's not lack of motivation, it's just been a real bad combination of writer's block and lack of inspiration.
I might start on another fic and alternate between the two just so that I don't drone on one thing for too long. If I do, it'll feature YumiKuri from Attack on Titan. It's the only ship I love almost as much as Elsanna.
Shortest chapter yet, but I wanted to get something out to you guys. It's a bit of a transitional chapter, so enjoy.
"I'm just saying, Elsa. Have you ever seen the moon and the sun out at the same time?" Aleks asked from the other side of the couch, gazing out of the window and into the darkness that lay beyond it.
"Well, no, but that doesn't mean they're the same thing!" Elsa nearly shouted to try and get her point across. They had been arguing over this for the greater part of the past hour. She stumbled off of the couch and walked over to the windowsill that her twin was propped up against with her face nearly pressed up against the glass.
"They totally are! After the sun sets, it cools down and rises again as the moon!" Aleks stated confidently as she plopped back down to the couch cushion and gave a wide grin at her twin.
"You believe that the sun and the moon are the same thing, but don't think that marshmallows grow in fields?" The blonde asked and sat down on the floor. The cool touch of the hardwood on her legs nearly caused a shiver to travel down her spine.
"Elsa, that's cotton!"
"Marshmallows! Why else would they look all fluffy like a marshmallow?"
Aleks sighed and laid back onto the cushion, raising her arms and them letting them fall with a thump against the soft fabric. "How many times have we gone over this, Elsa? Marshmallows are made by the same elves that make chocolate chip cookies!"
"But I thought the chocolate chip cookies were made fro-"
The heavy footsteps entering the room cut Elsa off, and she felt every rhythmic thump against the floor. Slowly and solemnly, she noticed the tall figure enter the room and sit down on the couch. Resting his arm against the armrest and rubbing his temples.
"Old picklepuss!" Aleks said, rising up and making her way over to the butler's side before sprawling out over his legs. "What's up?"
Edgar never looked up as he cast a halfhearted glance at the little girl glad to see him. "Girls-" He started, his voice was considerably softer than normal, and he was speaking slowly, nearly enunciating every letter in his words. "There has been some… news. About your parents." He lifted his head and let out a deep sigh.
"Are they coming back soon? It's almost been a week and we really miss them!" Aleks stated optimistically.
"Is everything okay, Mr. Edgar?" Elsa asked as she made it to her feet and placed a hand on the man's knee. She looked up at him wide-eyed and expectedly, curious as to why he wasn't his normal chipper self.
"No, little Elsa. Regretfully, everything is not okay." He admitted, placing a heavy hand on her shoulder. "In fact, I'm not even sure how to tell you this."
Elsa didn't like where this was going, and she looked towards her sister who had the same look she did. "A-are they going to be late?"
Edgar brushed a strand of hair from Aleks' face and gave a small pat to Elsa's shoulder. "I don't know specifics, but something happened to the cruise ship. It has… sunk."
Elsa both felt her heart drop and her mind began to race, trying to grasp the situation. The silence in the room was uncomfortable, and she was suddenly aware of the rhythmic, steady ticking of the large grandfather clock in the corner of the room. She was about to open her mouth for further inquiry, but was cut off by her twin.
"Are our parents okay?"
"I don't know, Aleks. I just got a call from the neighbor, Mrs. Bonfamille. She was watching the nightly news when it was mentioned that the cruise your parents are on has called out a frantic plea for help." He removed his top hat and placed it on the arm rest. With a sigh, he met Elsa's glossed eyes with his own. "As far as we know, your parents could be dead."
"You kissed her?!" Rapunzel shrieked on the opposite side of her bed. Compared to Anna's dorm, Rapunzel's seemed much more cramp. It was little more than two beds on opposite sides of the room separated by a small desk in the middle up against the window. It was pretty evident that Eugene couldn't pull the same strings he did for Anna to get his girlfriend into one of the newer, luxury type dorms.
Anna honestly couldn't tell if she sounded aggravated, proud, or a mix of both. But the volume of her voice caused her to shift uncomfortably. "The first time, yes." Anna muttered, shifting again and drawing into herself slightly. She brushed back a stray strand of hair behind her ear and tucked her hands in her lap.
"There was a second time?" Her cousin asked, shaking the entire bed and nearly made Anna lose her balance. "Jesus, Anna. The same day I learn you're gay is the same day you kiss a girl?" She sighed and ran her hand through her hair, causing a couple flyaway strands.
"I honestly didn't plan on it, it just kind of…" Anna shrugged and shook her head. "Happened."
"And you still won't tell me who it is?"
Anna shook her head, still unwilling to give up that information. It's not that she was embarrassed or anything, but she knew how Rapunzel had a tendency to freak out over things as if she couldn't tell already. If she knew that the woman Anna had fallen for was her roommate, she wasn't too sure how Rapunzel would handle that. She would tell her eventually, no doubt about that. But not until her cousin was more comfortable and used to the idea that Anna recently came out of the closet. Both to Rapunzel and to herself.
Rapunzel opened her mouth to speak, but was cut off when the door was swung open. In walked a woman who walked with a grace that Anna thought was only possible in movies. Long, black hair traveled down her back that was kept in a low ponytail. She sat on the bed opposite of Rapunzel and drummed her fingers on her knees. "Hello, Rapunzel. Who is our guest?" The woman spoke with a confidence that suddenly made Anna feel very small.
"Oh, hey, Jasmine. This is my cousin, Anna." Rapunzel commented, waving her arm over towards her cousin who only offered a meek wave. "She's gay, but won't tell me who she's gay for."
"Hey!" Anna yelled, pushing Rapunzel and giggling to herself when she tried to save herself from falling onto her back.
"That is nothing to be ashamed of, Anna." Jasmine commented after the small fit of giggles between the cousins ceased. "Whatever you do-"
"-or whoever you do." Rapunzel butted in, causing Anna to roll her eyes but couldn't hold back a small grin. She looked over to see that even Jasmine was rolling her large, brown eyes and shook her head soon after.
"As long as you do it with love, you can't go wrong." She finished, crossing her legs and giving a small shrug. "Do you love this girl, Anna?"
Anna could only nervously chuckle, and swept a loose strand of hair behind her ear in nervousness. "I appreciate what you're saying, Jasmine. But I literally just admitted to myself I liked this girl yesterday."
"So it's a fledgling relationship?" She nearly squealed as she clasped her hands together and shook in excitement. "That's so cute!"
"Are you in a relationship with this girl, Anna? I mean you two kissed twice so that has to mean something." Rapunzel added, full of wonder and excitement for her cousin.
Anna sat there and pondered for a moment. She really had no clue how to answer that question. We did kiss. Twice, in fact! Rapunzel is right. It can't just mean anything. She felt like she had made a mistake when she leaned forward and kissed her the first time, merely acting on impulse. And then SHE kissed ME! Not that I'm complaining but oh man, talk about unexpected. "I really don't know what you would call us. I mean, we're… were friends. And we kissed." Anna shrugged and crossed her legs on the bed so that she was sitting Indian style.
"What happened afterward?" Rapunzel inquired eyes wide with curiosity.
"Nothing, really. We just kind of said goodnight to each other and went our separate ways."
"Have you seen her since, Anna?" Jasmine asked with a small grin, obviously Anna's love life was entertaining for the two.
"No, but I'll see her later when she gets out of class." Anna checked the time on the small clock on the desk separating the beds which read 3:40. Elsa would be getting out of class within the next hour or so. I haven't even thought about how things would be between us the day after. Would she go back to being really shy like the day I met her? Way to go, Anna. You probably ruined it.
Jasmine lifted herself off of the bed and placed her hands on her hips, causing Anna to feel even smaller and insignificant from her stature and the respect she seemed to demand just by the way she presented herself. "I think you should ask her out somewhere."
Rapunzel shot forward and gasped. "Like a date! Oh, Anna, you should totally do it!"
Anna cocked an eyebrow and warily looked back and forth between her cousin and her roommate. Surely asking her out wouldn't be that bad of an idea. What's the worst that could happen? She never speaks to me again? Oh but where could I take her. Or better yet, where could I afford? "Where would I take her, if she even agrees?"
The short hair brunette scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Mini-golf of course."
"That could be cute, although a little clichéd." Jasmine added with her own roll of the eyes.
Anna sat there and pondered to herself, mini-golf wouldn't be a bad idea. Pretty cheap too, but there was a plethora of ways in which she could embarrass herself. Like losing grip on the putter and end up whacking some old lady in the head. But knowing my luck, the old lady would be the owner of the place. Then she'd sue me. Then I'll just live in a fancy old cardboard box on the corner of 4th and main. Then the idea struck her. "We could go to the movies, I guess."
"Way to be basic, Anna." Rapunzel scoffed again.
"Not a whole lot of options, Punzpunz. After paying for books and tuition, I'm running on fumes." Anna said, pulling out the pockets of her jeans to prove her point. "After all, what's the worst that could happen at a movie theater? It's fairly cheap and safe."
Jasmine nodded to herself. "For a first date? Why not? Save the extravagant luxuries for a later date."
And so it was settled. Anna would ask her out.
