A/N: As promised, I managed to post tthe last chapter on time. This is also the last for this story and I want to thank everyone for all of they're support. It means a lot that people liked this story enough to stay with it to the end, so if you are reading this; thank you and enjoy.

Also in response to a guest reviewer; first of all, thanks for the review. Second, the name for this story was taken from an episode of Supernatural, a Tv show of which I am a huge fan and this is my way of paying homage to it. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it, it is a great show. Anyway, enough rambling. Enjoy the chapter.

Epilouge

Misty woke up in a bed, bright sunlight streaming through the open curtains. The room she was in was small but clean and painted a pale yellow with pine floorboards. A thick, white rug sat on the floor on the right side of the single bed.

'Hey, look who's finally awake'.

Misty turned her head to see Ash sitting on a chair that had been placed between the bed and the window. Pikachu was happily curled up and dozing peacefully on his trainer's lap. Misty thought that Ash looked tired but he smiled at her as brightly as he always had.

'Hey', Misty replied. 'Where are we?'

'In Brock's place'.

He then proceeded to fill her in on what had happened after she had passed out.

After kicking Togoros out and consequently passing out, Misty had left Ash with the dilema of how to get home. He had wanted to bring Dawn's body back but it had been impossible to move both Misty and the body at the same time. Knowing that it made sense to get Misty to safety first, Ash had managed to find just enough strength left to carry Misty over his shoulder fire man style.

Although fully expecting to have a lot of difficulty getting off the island, Ash had come across only a few small monsters who paid him little to no attention. He didn't say it to Misty, but Ash had gotten the impression, and still thought so, that, for whatever reason, Togoros was allowing them off the island. He had no idea why that might be, but knew that it wouldn't be good for them.

Once he reached the beach, Ash had fully intended to go back for Dawn's body. He re - entered the forest but quickly found himself back on the beach. He tried a number of times, but each time the result was the same, despite him making sure he was walking in a straight line. Eventually, he had been forced to leave the body there.

Ash had been looking for something to build a raft out of when he spotted a boat not too far away. He managed to draw they're attention and as it drew near, Ash saw that it was a small fishing boat. He explained to them that he and Misty had been on the ferry and fallen overboard and became stranded on the island. It was more or less the truth anyway, he thought to himself. The small crew, who were heading back to Kanto, were happy to give the pair a lift home. When asked what was wrong with Misty, Ash had told them that she was suffering from heat exhaustion; a believable enough lie given that it was the height of summer.

Once they had docked, Ash had carried Misty to the Pokemon centre, telling Nurse Joy that she was just asleep and phoned Brock. They're friend had been overjoyed and beyond relieved to hear from them and had driven straight over to pick the two of them up. They had been back at Brock's for just under a day.

'I'm sorry about Dawn Ash, it was my fault', Misty expressed, tears gathering at the corners of her eyes as the guilt once again crashed down on her.

'No it's not Misty. Don't do that to yourself', Ash said firmly.

'But I should have been able to stop him'.

'Stop', Ash said loudly, causing Pikachu to stir in his sleep. 'Misty, stop blaming yourself because it's not your fault. If anyone's it's mine for bringing her into this life in the first place', he continued at a lower volume.

'You know that's not true. You didn't force her to come'.

'Yeah'. She could tell he didn't believe it.

'Pikachu looks pretty peaceful there', she said to change the subject.

Ash smiled. 'Yeah. He hasn't left my side since we got back'.

'Who can blame him? He was probably worried sick about you'.

'Probably', Ash agreed. He paused and glanced up at Misty with a look that she couldn't quite distinguish. 'Hey Mist, I am really glad that you're okay'.

'I'm really glad that you're okay too Ash'.

'And, um...'.

He trailed off and stood up, carefully placing Pikachu down on the chair. Misty was shocked when he quickly leant down and pecked her on the cheek.

'Ash -'.

'I have to go', Ash cut her off, rushing for the door.

'Ash wait'.

He stopped and turned to look back at her. Misty stood and walked forward until she stood right in front of him. She hesitated, praying to Arceus that she hadn't misread the situation and then determindly, she reached up to press her lips against his.

'I like you too', she said, suddenly shy.

Ash's eyes were wide with surprise but slowly, a smile spread across his face and, feeling suddenly bold, he kissed her back. The kiss quickly devolped into a make-out session that only ended when they were forced to break apart for air.

'Well it's about time Ashy-boy', an annoyingly familiar voice said from the doorway. Groaning inwardly and blushing bright red, Ash and Misty turned to face a smug Gary. 'I've seen dead people move faster than you!'

Ash scowled. 'Shut up Gary'.

'Ooh, amazing comeback', Gary smirked. 'Anyway, I'm going to go and tell Brock that little Ashy finally grew a pair. Later loser', with that, he disappeared.

'So...', Ash said in the awkward silence Gary had left behind her. 'Do you want to?'

Misty raised an eyebrow. 'Are you asking me out?'

'Yeah', he beamed, seemingly genuinely pleased that she had grasped what he had meant.

Misty's eyebrow twitched and she fought the urge to mallet him. 'Ash Ketchum, that has got to be the worst way anyone has ever asked a girl out', she scolded. 'But yes, I would like to', she finished in a gentler tone.

'Great', Ash smiled before pulling her into another kiss.

Ash lay in bed that night, happily contemplating what knew experiences awaited him and Misty. He didn't know what to expect but he couldn't wait to find out. Sleep began to claim him and Ash willingly let himself succumb to it when something snapped him wide awake; a familiar voice in his head.

'Ready for round two boy?'

If anyone is interested, I am planning a sequal to this story. I plan to write a few chapters in advance so that I can post a chapter a week so people don't have to wait so long for updates. Also, chapter to of Ash's confession will be posted tomorrow.
