I just want all of you AMAZING readers (who have given me the most AMAZING feedback! THANK YOU!) to know that I do not own anything, that the ages are a little jacked up because of the timeline I have started things at, and that I love you all for clicking the link that lead you to this crazy story. Thank all of you that reviewed and/or favorite-ed and/or followed my story.
Important-ish: Soccer season has started up again, and I have either been busy at practice, with homework, or just too tired to write. So most of my chapters are probably going to be a little late... sorry.
Short chapter, I will give you a longer one soon.
Chapter 30: I Promise I Will Never...
With Christian and family, Christian's POV:
Ana had started getting sick thirty minutes after Nicolette left, it was the third time this week I had caught her getting sick. Who knows how many times she got sick without telling me just so she could go to work.
Terence Goodwin- the man who owned the Bed and Breakfast- called the doctor, his wife, into the room so she could examine Ana, after two hours of convincing Ana that she needed a doctor.
When everything was shot straight to hell.
Two teenagers came bursting into the Bed and Breakfast, both still in their board shorts with no shirt or shoes, and out of breath.
"Shark attack." one of them breathed.
"One of the girls." the other filled in. The doctor, Kara Goodwin, stood straight up.
"Good god. One of you tell the others to send her straight to the hospital, in one of the trucks. I'll have everything ready there. The other go around town and warn the parents, I want all of the parents by the water's edge by the time the boat gets in." Kara ordered. The two boys nodded and sprinted outside. My heart started beating quickly.
One of the girls? I could be my girl. Dear lord, Nicolette, no. No it can't be her. She's still healing.
She's still healing.
On The Boat.
Everything seemed to move quicker for Ryan. When he heard the scream the first thing he did was try to spot the only red-head on the boat, only to remember that she was in the water the moment of the scream.
Teenagers were helping other teenagers onto the boat, girls were crying of fright and guys were either trying to calm them down or help others onto the boat. Ryan looked over the side of the boat to spot Nicolette and Lee Anne on a raft crying, in the dim-ish lighting he could see what looked like blood smears on her arm.
"Three girls! By the edge!"
"Someone get to shore!"
"One is definitely injured!"
"Get the boats out!"
"Reel 'em in!" Orders were being shouted, Ryan watched as the teenagers attempted to throw a rope to a freaking out Lee Anne as the raft was bumped by the shark again. The girls on the raft shrieked. Nicolette was fumbling with a lose rope on the raft between shark bumps, Ryan understood that it was her friend who was hurt, and she was trying to make a truncate for her friend.
Ryan couldn't take it anymore. It was his job to protect Nicolette, and right now she needed protection from that damned shark that couldn't leave her and her friends alone.
Ryan dove into the water.
Back On Shore.
Christian left a still sick Ana at the Bed and Breakfast with Kate, Mia and Grace, while he left with Reynolds, Taylor, Carrick, and Elliot. The other security members stayed with the girls. Christian found nearly fifty sets of worried parents at the docks while the boat was still too far away from port. There was an alley way for the truck to drive threw once the injured girl(s) made it to shore.
And parents were still arriving.
"Mr. Grey!" Christian turned at the sound of his name to a woman who looked awfully familiar- even with a tearstained face.
"Mrs. Lacey?" Christian asked, the woman nodded.
"Have you heard anything about what girl it is that's hurt? Please tell me it wasn't my Tara." The woman asked, Christian shook his head.
"I haven't heard anything. It could have been anyone, god. I shouldn't have let her go tonight." Christian breathed.
"We are all feeling that right now. Regretting letting our kids go out tonight." Another voice spoke up, Lee Anne's father came into vision. He wore a somber look on his face, but just like the last time Christian met him, he was as reasonable as ever.
"Have you heard anything from Lee Anne?" Christian found himself asking, Lee Anne's father shook his head.
"No, but I have a feeling that if were any of our girls, at least one of them would have contacted us." Lee Anne's father answered.
"Nicolette left her cell in the car, sir. Reynolds' just found it." Taylor spoke up, appearing for the first time in five minutes.
"Tara left her phone at the house, she said that she would lose it in the ocean. Told us that if anything happened, Nicolette would have a cell near her." Lacey sobbed.
"So did Lee Anne." Lee Anne's mother started sobbing too.
"Now, Sheri, we don't know if anything actually happened to any of them. It could easily have been karma sneakin' up on Sarah Beth or her crew." Lee Anne's father breathed.
Suddenly the boat came into sight and four teenagers came sprinting off holding one body carefully, as another girl and a man led the other teens off the boat and towards the parents.
On The Boat... Five Minutes Earlier...
Ryan dove into the sea water, swimming directly towards the raft that held his charge and her friend. He felt a small sting on his left arm and swung with his right, his thirty-five or so years of watching Shark Week told him to punch the nose or eyes. He landed a hard punch to something squishy and watched with blurred vision as the large, grey-ish mass swam away.
Ryan pulled himself onto the raft that Nicolette and Lee Anne were currently attempting to save their friend on when they spotted Ryan climbing onto the raft. Ryan inspected his left arm, only seeing a couple of scratches on it he decided that his arm just scraped against the shark's teeth and he moved just a little faster than the confused shark.
Then he moved onto Nicolette.
"Are you hurt?" Ryan asked, noting the amount of blood that ruined his charge's new bathing suit.
"No. But look..." Nicolette sobbed, Ryan looked at her friend, the girl was obviously in shock and was missing the lower half of her right calf. Ryan quickly cut some of the rope that Nicolette had been fumbling with, with his pocket knife and tied it tightly around the teenager's leg, then was able to attach the rope that the teenagers on board had finally tossed correctly, to the raft and helped them pull the raft to the boat.
Max grabbed Nicolette and checked her for injuries as Zayne Nimmons grabbed Lee Anne and some of the other teenagers instantly went to help Ryan with the obviously injured girl.
The boat was traveling at a whole four knots and was near port, Nicolette was still sobbing in Max's arms, her bathing suit, arms, and legs stained with blood. Four minutes after being on board the boat made it to port, four teenagers quickly grabbed the girl's body and carried her to the waiting truck.
Ryan and Max followed Nicolette as she sprinted off the wretched boat at toward her father, who was waiting among the mass of people.
"Daddy!" Nicolette shouted, Christian's head snapped toward the sound and quickly pulled his daughter in a hug, not noticing the amount of blood on her until it was on his own hands.
He could hear Taylor grilling Ryan over his daughter's sobs.
"What happened?"
"Shark came out of fucking nowhere. One second she's laughing. The next she's screaming shark."
"She was there? In the water?"
"Hell yes. She and Lee Anne pulled the girl onto the raft with them and away from the shark."
"Damn, why are you wet?"
"Jumped into the water, the girls were too freaked out to do anything properly. Fucking shark scraped my arm with it's teeth. I got it in the eye, never missing another Shark Week episode though." Ryan attempted to joke.
Taylor wasn't amused.
"Who was the injured girl?"
"Sarah Beth."
