Chapter 22: The Remaining Praedators
James p.o.v.
I couldn't believe that George was gone now for more than two months and still didn't come back. The school had started two days ago but we couldn't visit her in the holidays. The healers all said that she wasn't in the state to have visitors. Louis had run off to owl everyone in our family if they had an idea how we could make George stay but nobody knew what to do. My parents visited her first thing on the next day but the staff had said that nobody could see her because her Healer said she was pretty unstable. This months were the worst in my life. And on Christmas nobody felt in the mood to celebrate. It was worse than as the others wouldn't talk with me. I could still see her go around in the corridors or in class but now she was just gone. And the way she looked at the ball… She was happy and lots of boys' head turned that night in her direction.
The boys and I were currently in the common room and tried to play exploding snap but weren't concentrated. It was well in the night when we heard a load crack and Gringe stood before us with big wide eyes, a glass with something wispy in it and a stack of parchments in the other hand. Gringe was our favourite House Elf. He was kind and liked to give us food in the middle of the night. We all jumped up and looked startled at him. He looked kind of frightened.
"Messrs! I has a message for you. From George." Fred, Louis and I looked confused at each other. Why would George send us a message?
"What does it say Gringe?" Louis asked. He looked sadly at us and my stomach made a funny flip. Something was not right.
"She sent a friend of mine who work for others. She said that George asked her to give me a message to give to you. George said that she is not where she is supposed to be. Instead she is in a Manor with dark people. And she gave me this." He gave Fred the glass with the white wisp in it and the parchments.
"She said you should bring this to McGonagall but you not see the content!" We were like statues. I couldn't think but fortunately we have Louis who stays calm in the most situations.
"We have to go to McGonagall!" And with that we sprinted out of common room and to the gargoyle that watched the headmistress' office. We begged the gargoyle to let us in but he wouldn't move an inch because we hadn't the password. So we started screaming and jumping as loud as we could. My thoughts were jumbled and the only thing I could see was George in a place with Death Eaters.
"What do you think you are doing? It is three in the morning! Please tell me why I shouldn't give you all a week of detention and deduct points!" McGonagall came down and glared us. As soon as she finished scolding, we all talked at the same time and Fred gave her the empty marmalade glass and the parchments. She sighed and signalled to follow her up the stairs in her office. We sat down, but I jumped up again and started pacing.
"So boys. Please explain to me what you were doing so late up. And before you all speak together," she looked to Louis, "you start."
"Well you know that George was sent to St Mungos from her father?" She nodded. "We wrote our family and James parents tried to visit her but they weren't allowed. We all tried again in the holidays but we had still no luck. And now we think that is because George isn't in St Mungos." McGonagall looked confused at us and sternly looked at us.
"Why wouldn't Ms Grey be in St Mungos?" Fred jumped in before Louis could answer.
"Just fifteen minutes before Gringe came and told us that George had send a House Elf to tell us that she was in a Manor with Death Eaters. She also sent this glass along with the parchments but we don't know what these are." McGonagall looked down at the glass in her hand, a look of realization on her face and then back to us.
"This is a memory. She probably couldn't tell the House Elf too specific informations because the House Elf would have to follow the rules of its master." She stood up and walked to a closet which she opens and put a bowl on her desk.
"I will watch this alone. You should go back to bed!" She just pushed us out of her office and we were again in the corridor in front of the gargoyle. But we couldn't just go back to our common room. So we sat in the shadows and waited until McGonagall would come up. George had to be save! She had to!
I woke up as Fred shook me and jumped up. McGonagall stood before us with a grim expression on her face. I think I even heard her growl a little.
"I saw the memory and it is not good. I gave Harry word and he and the Aurors will look into it. He said he wants you three to wait in the common room for news. And I promise as soon as we have news, we will notify you. But you have to go now." We looked at each other and knew we couldn't wait. But one question was bursting to get out.
"Why did they took George? Why her?" I whispered at our favourite teacher. She looked sadly at us and shook her head.
"I am sorry I can't answer that but I am sure that when she is with you she will tell you all. Now go to bed." We slowly walked up but we didn't go to our room we just stayed in the common room waiting for news about our best friend.
