Important-ish: Sorry about the wait, soccer was the issue again. Got hospitalized without a computer and then my biological dad moved me out of my mom and step dad's house. Just got my computer back as my twin had to send it out.

Chapter 39: An 'Accident'

Two months had passed and Nicolette felt herself fall into a routine.

Sleep, eat, school, eat, more school, soccer, eat, band practice, eat, sleep.

Over and over again, the girls had convinced Nicolette that she needed to join the girls soccer team after a game of two on one (Nicolette being the one) and Nicolette winning. Not only that, but also joining the school's rock band, Punk Rock. She also worked very hard and had gotten all of her credits for first semester under her belt, so she could graduate with her class.

Now, graduation was less than a month away, and *insert name of mean girl here, still hadn't stopped trying to get the attention of Mr. Hartsville; nor had she stopped being the biggest bitch to Nicolette.

The dean of the school had ignored Nicolette and Max's relationship because it had started before either of them were at the school, and it had not interfered with work or school. So throughout the months the two lightly flirted throughout every class period, and bantered about farming.

"C'mon, you know that the fertilization method doesn't work." Nicolette groaned.

"Really? Then how do you explain Herod's perfect wheat farm?" Max snorted.

"The same way they explained the deaths of fifty people who ate Herod's perfect wheat." Nicolette rolled her eyes as her boyfriend sauntered up to her desks.

"I hadn't taught that yet." Max smirked.

"I was sitting next to you when they announced the cause of death on the news. You were almost in tears because you thought that you had to throw out all of the wheat you had grown that year because you used the same seeds." Nicolette threw him one of her brilliant grins as he took a step back.

"I was not."

"Were too."

"Not."

"Yes."

"No!"

"Do you want me to call Joseph and ask?"

By this point the entire class- minus Jessica- was laughing at the couple's antics. They had known that Mr. Hartsville was completely in love with the beautiful Nicolette Grey since the second week back from break, and it wasn't hard to tell why. She complimented his personality, and amplified it ten-fold. Besides when they bickered in class it entertained all of them, because although they knew that she would win, the way she manipulated his words and used her wit against his was hilarious.

"Nope, ok class- now that we've decided that the fertilization method indeed didn't work. It instead caused the deaths of fifty people. Because the additives that Herod put into the fertilizer that he thought would only keep bugs away, were poisonous. So when the first fifty people ate the wheat bread or other items where the wheat wasn't pasteurized, it killed people. Many wheat farmers were scared that they would have to throw out their crops because the same seeds were used, and nobody was sure if it was the seeds that were poisoned or if the seeds were fine up until they were fertilized. Which it was the second one, however, many farmers panicked, took money out of the banks, a few banks needed to foreclose down south and many people up north feared another depression." Max paused and rolled his eyes.

"Everything was fine. Banks weren't allowed to take any money out, due to a law that was temporarily passed. We're good." Max shook his head before looking at the clock just above the door.

"Well, that is all for today, and there is still an hour left of class… Stay quiet and I won't give you more work." Max threatened, and even though everyone believed that it was an empty threat- nobody attempted to test that theory.

At the end of class Nicolette walked out with Ryan in front of her and Strong behind her. For once in her life she felt like she fit in, mostly because she wasn't the only girl in the school who had security taking each step with her. In fact, a good one third of the school had personal security.

And she was friends with almost every single one of that one third of the school.

"EEEP! Nicolette! Are you ready for the game today?" Rockie asked as she neared her friend.

"Heck yeah! Lincoln High is going down!" Nicolette shouted, she and the girls practically plan their outfits out together. So each day they wore the same uniform. Today it was the navy, knee high, skirt with white blouse, maroon vest and flats.

Nicolette grinned as Shelly and Terrance joined them, Shelly instantly taking the conversation to boys.

"Ohhhhh my god. Stephan Cerkclan was totally checking you out Nikks. I think he is into you." Shelly grinned.

"He can be into me all he wants, but I will probably date only one man my entire life." Nicolette retorted as Shelly got her 'dreamer' look on her face, her blue eyes misting over and brown, shiny locks falling into her face.

"You and Max are sooooo cute together. It's adorable. And the way you treat his brothers- oh my god- you two are, like, perfect for each other." Shelly sighed, then, as usual, snapped out of it suddenly.

"But Terrance, did you see the way Austin Holmes was looking at you?" Nicolette shook her head as Jessica Lambart approached her.

"So I hear you are 'helping' with the Farming and Landscaping trip this summer." Nicolette rolled her eyes at Jessica's uptight attitude. She was literally the only person in the entire school that cared about her and Max dating.

"Yes, because I grew up in Haven and you guys will be helping out on my daddy's old farm. I just wanna make sure that you aren't going to burn it to the ground." Nicolette answered. The trip started because everyone but Nicolette, Rockie, Shelly, and Terrance had been saying that the farm life sounded like it was easy as pie. So Max went to the school board and proposed a class trip over the course of three months to Haven- after speaking with one of his old buddies from Haven about how stupid the students were and they joked about it.

When Max told the his buddy that they were actually going to go through with it, plans were drawn up. The entire town was currently renovating the old Johnson and Hartsville home to be bigger- at least ten rooms per house, to hold a total of twenty people per house, so thirty-eight people were going to go on the trip besides Nicolette and Max. The town decided to foot the bill to raise awareness for farming, and so it was happening, so far all thirty-eight people had signed up.

"But you're nothing more than a farmer's wife." Jessica spat.

"Well it's a good thing that we're going to a farm now isn't it." Nicolette rolled her eyes, and stepped passed Jessica as the intercom went off.

Teachers please excuse this announcement, but the girls soccer team heading for Lincoln High will be leaving now.

Once more Nicolette shook her head, but made her way towards the locker room to grab her things.

-...- Grace's POV...-...

All of us left work early to attend Nicolette's game, even Elliot who was currently working on some additions to Bill Gate's home. It was just passed 6:00 p.m and Nicolette's team was up. To say that when she started on the soccer team my youngest son was worried would be an understatement.

He was worrying himself to death.

Every time she headed the ball Christian would ask if she was alright the first possible moment he got. Every time she fell he wanted to run out on the field and check on her. He probably would have a few times had Elliot or Carrick not grabbed him.

So all of us were peeking at him through the corner of our eyes as the girls took their positions.

The first half of the game passed by in a breeze, Nicolette as forward with her friend Terrance. They worked well together and knew exactly where the other was going to be when they passed the ball to the other.

The score was currently 7-0.

When Nicolette scored a goal by finishing off the ball that the goalie from the other team had practically passed to her, disaster struck.

Terrance had cheered and swung her arm around Nicolette's neck as they started off to the 50 yard mark, when a girl twice Nicolette's size ran up to them. Nicolette instantly pushed Terrance out of the way two seconds before the girl hit Nicolette and sent her flying into the goal post.

All of us stood as three of the girls on Nicolette's team ran up to the girl and blocked her from getting anywhere near Nicolette again. While Terrance ran over to Nicolette's downed body.

"Coach! Coach she's out!" Terrance screamed, the place was chaos, girls on each team were chattering about what had actually happened, as refs and coaches where shouting at each other. Coach Micheal Corers ran out to where Terrance and Nicolette were, and the Athletic Trainers weren't far behind.

Corers said something to Terrance who nodded and ran our direction. In seconds she was in front of us as our stomachs were pressed against the bars in front of the stands, and she stood on the red track asphalt.

"Nicolette's unconscious, they need Mr. Christian and Mrs. Ana on the field." Terrance wheezed. Christian crawled under the railing and dropped to the ground as Ana ran to the stairs and quickly climbed down them, Taylor behind her. The girls that were on the field were now by their respective benches, standing and muttering to themselves. Nicolette's team was staring at her body as the coach and trainers talked to each other. Terrance joined the girls and she, Rockie and Shelly hugged.

Christian and Ana made it to Nicolette, both crouched down... Ana practically leaning on Christian due to her now four month pregnant body.

Minutes passed. As a doctor myself, I had the strong urge to go out there and see what was going on myself. But a single look from Carrick and I knew that I had to stay here.

"Mom is she going to be alright?" Mia asked, her eyes wide with fear.

"A concussion at most Mia, she'll be fine." I assure her. Mia nods in understanding and turns her attention back to the field as Nicolette stands, leaning heavily on Christian as the coach helps Ana stand.

Nicolette attempts to take a few steps, but wobbles and would have fallen if Christian hadn't had a tight grip on her.

A golf cart approaches and Nicolette and Ana are loaded in it as Christian walks behind quickly with the coaches- as Taylor runs in the direction of the cars.

Carrick's phone rings.

"How is she?"

"Hospital?"

"Of course I will. Don't worry." When he hangs up he looks at us.

"They are going to the hospital, we are leaving." Carrick says in his 'don't question me' voice. We all nod and quickly walk to the cars.
