Chapter 15: Doing the job

Hotch hovered in his doorway as he watched the team go back to work as soon as they had spotted him. He didn't mind them talking but he didn't expect to see JJ in the bullpen. He hadn't spoken to her in a while and he planned on calling her as soon as he got home, but now she was standing right in front of him with a wide smile and grin on her face. It immediately lifted his spirits, but he couldn't help but wonder why she was there. So he walked onto the catwalk and down the stairs to greet her as he heard his team chuckling. It was when he looked at Fowler who was waving his phone in the air, making him realize they had probably texted JJ to have some fun. Or to at least see why he had been so happy. Their comments about him getting laid weren't really true, but he was in fact happier by just dating the blonde.

He stepped in front of her and kissed her cheek politely to not give his colleagues and satisfaction by really kissing her, even though he desperately wanted to. ''Give me one second, JJ.'' he whispered into her ear. ''It looks like my colleagues are messing with me.''

JJ turned around and watched as Hotch stepped towards the agents she had met earlier. She saw him grabbing a phone from Fowler's hands as the others were losing their poker faces. She quickly realized they had taken Hotch's phone and lured her into coming down to the office so they could see her. She wasn't bothered by it at all. If anything it made her happy to know that Hotch was surrounded by people who actually cared and dared to joke around with him. She had a feeling that he wasn't all sweet and fun at his job. But that didn't matter to her. She wasn't the same person either. Not even with him. In fact, she was probably never really herself. But with Hotch parts of Jennifer Jareau surfaced and she wasn't scared to show him pieces of herself, which meant a whole lot to her.

Hotch was standing across from his smiling colleagues with his phone in his hand, trying to hide his own smile. But he couldn't. He smiled back widely and with a smirk on his face. ''You guys are going to pay for this. Believe me!'' he warned as he turned around to face JJ. ''Lets leave these guys so they can finish their reports. I'll show you to my office.'' he said as he took JJ's hand and gently pulled her with him. He let her walk inside his office first and he closed the door behind them and then continued to close all the blinds for some privacy.

JJ looked around and took in all the details. He wasn't a show off. That much she immediately noticed because he didn't have a lot hanging on his walls. His office was nice and welcoming just like his apartment, but she couldn't imagine what kind of horrors he faced there on a daily basis. She didn't know a lot about the BAU, but she knew they dealt with horrific serial crimes. That simple fact was more than enough information to her.

Hotch walked back to JJ after closing the blinds, and he stopped to watch her check out the office. He felt a surge of pride going through him as he stood there, but it wasn't because of his office or his job. It was because of the beautiful blonde standing across from him. She looked gorgeous in her casual clothes and he couldn't help what he did next.

He walked towards her, pushed her against the door gently as his hands settled on her hips, and he kissed her deeply. At the feeling of their lips fused together, he felt the heat in his body increase. She responded by wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him closer than before. He could feel their kiss intensify quickly as if it was no longer an innocent kiss. It turned passionate and both of them spilled their desires and feelings into that one kiss.

If it wasn't for the ringing of JJ's phone more may have happened since neither of them had the will or strength to pull away. JJ leaned with her head against the door, one hand on Hotch's chest as the other began to search for her phone, while Hotch was breathing against her neck, making her knees go weak.

She pulled out the phone, still in the same position with Hotch's body pressed against her own. She looked at the screen and she felt her heart sink. It was a text from Owen and read 911, so she knew it was important and probably involved their case. ''I have to make a call. I am so sorry.'' she apologized as she hit the speed dial on her phone.

He cupped her cheek gently and lifted her cheek so she looked up into his eyes. ''Hey, don't apologize for doing your job!'' he whispered. He stepped back and felt a sharp pain at the loss of contact, but retreated back to give JJ some room to make the phone call. He sat back down behind his desk and watched her closely, trying to figure out why she was suddenly so nervous. She even started pacing.

JJ turned her back to Hotch, hoping he didn't see her change in attitude. She was the best at keeping composure but standing in his office and realizing her job might always be in the way just caused a change for her. She didn't like it, but it was the simple reality of her situation and she had to find a way to deal with it.

Her thoughts were stopped when she heard the familiar voice on the other side of the line. ''Hey, what's going on?'' JJ asked quickly, trying to hide the shaking of her voice.

On the other end of the line Owen was sitting behind the screens to keep an eye at Chemicaltech. ''Warren just left the office and I was able to swipe the password generator so this is our only shut at getting the personnel files from Chemicaltech's servers.''

JJ breathed in deeply, feeling annoyed by Owen's actions. He once again done something without telling her first. She knew he was planning on doing something. They even talked about it together. But she appreciated a little notice, which he of course hadn't given her. ''Owen, what were you thinking!'' she said angrily. ''You're supposed to tell me these things beforehand.''

''JJ, we both have no lives so just come down here and help me out!'' Owen said before hanging up the phone, leaving JJ no room to argue.

The first thing JJ felt was anger and then just disappointment. I do have a life. I am dating this amazing man. She thought to herself. She turned around and put her phone back in her pocket, facing Hotch who was staring at her with an amused smile.

''Sounds like someone is in trouble!'' he remarked as he rose from his chair. He began to walk towards her and stopped right in front of her. ''Everything okay?''

''No, not really. I…uh…have to go. Someone at work screwed up and I have to fix it before my boss knows about it.'' she explained it along the lines of the truth. ''I hate to skip out like this.''

''You can always drop my apartment when things are fixed at the office. I am staying here for another two hours to finish paperwork, so you're welcome to drop by.'' he suggested with a big smile on his face. He pressed a soft kiss to her head and walked behind his desk.

''Thank you, Aaron.'' JJ whispered. She walked out of the office and closed the door gently behind her. On her way out of the bullpen, she nodded to the agents who were still working. But her head had been thrown back into her case and now her only concern was to get the job done unnoticed. Getting the personnel files could be the break they had been waiting for. It could reveal the person behind the missing chemical weapons.

When JJ had reached Chemicaltech, she stormed into the office of security and was surprised to see that Owen was the only one there. She hurried towards his desk and stepped next to him with urgency.

Owen turned around and smirked when he saw the anger in her expression. ''You're so breathtaking when you're angry.'' he teased, but it didn't really help the situation.

JJ formed a fist and threw a punch at his face, causing him to fall backwards and landing on the ground as the blood dripped from his nose because of the force of the blow. She walked towards the desk and grabbed the password generator and earpiece so could keep in contact with Owen if anything would happen.

Owen rose from the ground as he watched JJ get ready to break into Warren's office. He stepped behind her with one hand on his nose. ''What was that for?'' he asked with confusion.

JJ whirled around with anger written all over her face. ''That was for coming back into my life and acting as if you're my boss, Owen!'' she snapped. ''You think you can somehow dictate what I do? Well, those days are over. If I were you I would keep your mouth shut about my personal life.'' she went on. ''I am sick of your games and I won't get pulled into your world again.''

She stormed away and left him no chance to say anything. She refocused on getting in and out quickly as she walked through hallways of the immense building. Once she reached the fifth floor she used Owen's security ID to open up the doors because she didn't want anyone to have any proof of her being in the building after work hours. The doors swung open and JJ passed by her office on her left and walked towards the right where Warren's corner office was. She looked around and was relieved to see that the entire wing was empty. She stopped in front of his office and quickly unlocked the door. Once inside, she closed the door behind her and made her way towards the desk. It wasn't anything new. She had done break-ins more times than she could count, but somehow this felt different to her. This wasn't something she was supposed to do. Her boss didn't give the order, so in JJ's head it was completely wrong. But it was what needed to be done to eventually safe dozens of lives and to locate the missing chemicals. It was her job, her life. Her job had become her life and JJ couldn't imagine ever doing anything else, but since meeting Hotch things felt different, even though it had been just a little over a week. He made her question her choices in life. He made her feel guilty about doing what she did, but she couldn't apologize for being in the CIA. It was her life.

So she took the password generator from her pocket and used the combination of letters and numbers to pass by security on Warren's computer, and it didn't take long before she found the files. She opened several windows and used an encrypted account from the CIA to send a copy of the files to their servers. It took a few seconds before the transfer was completed and when it was, she turned the computer off and left the office in a hurry, but before she could close the door behind her, she heard Owen's voice over the com in a panicked voice.

''JJ, Warren is on his way inside!'' he warned.

She closed the door behind her and opened the line of communication again. ''You need to get up here now! I used your ID to get up here. I can't explain that!''
