Thank all of you that reviewed and/or favorite-ed and/or followed my story.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
Last chapter, and I have mixed feelings about this. Happy and relieved that it is over, but sad I don't get to write about this anymore.
And I'm not going to lie, looking up 'wedding dresses' to get inspiration for Nicolette's has totally freaked out my boyfriend.
Chapter 56: I Promise You
The hoedown had been hilarious, Nicolette had never seen her family members drink as much alcohol as they did and everyone of them were dancing (or attempting in little Teddy's case). The entire town made it to the Homer's Fields that day and everyone of them were dancing and having a ball.
Slowly, one family by one family, everyone left and made their way back to their houses.
The next day everyone nursed their hangover and finished with the fields.
And the day after everyone put on their Sunday best and made their way to the Johnson residence, because it was time for the second wedding of Nicolette Anne Grey and Maxwell Eric Hartsville.
The guys were at the Hartsville farm putting on the finishing touches when Elliot decided to open his mouth.
"Are you nervous?" Max chuckled lightly and shook his head.
"She already married me, so she can't run now."
Carrick shook his head.
"You were nervous in Vegas." Jonathan recalled.
"Only because I thought Christian would pop out of nowhere, drag her home and lock her up so I could never see her again... no offence." Max added.
"None taken... I was tempted to do just that." Christian smirked as he watched Max tie his tie.
"I can't imagine my life without Nicolette. Not anymore." Max breathed.
"Anymore?" Carrick asked.
"I spent two years of my life staying away from her because I knew that she needed to see the truth by herself. Though, I'm not going to lie, towards the second year I began to worry that I'd have to start the dating game again. But all my life, the only girl I've ever wanted has been her." Max straightened his tie in the mirror.
Mitchell patted his friend on the shoulder.
"Let's do this thing."
...000...000...
While things at the Hartsville house were calm and collected, the girls at the Johnson place were freaking out. Minus Nicolette and Tara.
"Should we tell her that she's holding both shoes?" Tara asked Nicolette as they watched Lee Anne freak about where Nicolette's heels were.
"She woke me up at five a.m. Let her stew." Nicolette bit out, Tara chuckled.
"Girls! We have thirty minutes to get our teeth brushed, in our dresses and shoes and to the picture guy!" Lee Anne shouted. The Grey girls plus Teddy and Phoebe exited the bathroom in their robes after brushing their teeth.
Jason Taylor watched as Nicolette began to mock Lee Anne in an attempt to calm her down. When the only thing that Nicolette got was a slap to the midsection she stopped.
"Lee, Nicolette is the one supposed to be freaking out! Stop it!" Tara shouted as Nicolette approached Taylor.
"Mrs Hartsville?"
"Do you have any drugs on you?"
"Pardon ma'am?" Taylor chuckled.
"I think that we are going to have to sedate Lee Anne, do you have any drugs that could do that?" Nicolette asked, Taylor wasn't able to keep his face straight and he began laughing.
Damn that girl was his weakness.
"No ma'am I do not." Taylor shook his head laughing.
"Oh, that sucks. Thanks."
Nicolette turned and walked to the bathroom to brush her teeth with Tara- who had convinced Lee Anne to do it as well.
Ten minutes later lip stick had been re-applied and dresses (and one mini tux) were being put on.
"And the final dress to go on!" Lee Anne shouted as she helped Nicolette into her dress.
This time the dress was floor length, which covered her four-inch blue, lace heels (which Lee Anne finally realized were in her hands), the sweetheart neckline was modest and the simple white bodice hugged Nicolette's skin tightly, the dress was once again a Princess style and came out at her hips, the skirt and bodice were separated by a white, silk ribbon which was at least five inches wide and created a large bow at the small of Nicolette's back, two ribbon strands came out of the bottom of the bow and trailed down most of the skirt- which was created from tulle that trailed down to the ground.
Nicolette's hair was pulled back in a sort of braided bun that kept her copper hair off her shoulders and back, while the veil was tucked into the top part of the bun and pulled over it so that the veil only trailed down her back.
Nicolette's new diamond necklace hung around her neck. It was simple with only the chain and a single, four karat, princess cut, circular diamond hanging off the chain.
Nicolette's blue, lace shoes were her something blue.
Ana allowed Nicolette to borrow her 'second chance' earrings- with Christian's permission- as Nicolette's something borrowed.
"Now, all we are missing is something old!" Grace cried as she watched her granddaughter spin around in her dress, Nicolette could hardly believe that she was walking down the isle again.
This time with everyone who mattered to her watching.
"Actually, Nikks, you know how I went to see Mitchell this morning?" Nicolette nodded at Tara's words. "I also saw Max, who wanted me to give you this. I don't know what it is, but it seemed important." Tara handed a small box to Nicolette.
Nicolette took the small box from Tara and opened it, finding a paper with typed words on it.
Your father had sent this in the mail to me just before he died.
He wanted you to have it on your wedding day and left it in my care.
I love you.
Max
Nicolette read his words twice before taking the paper and setting it down on the table and sitting down with her hand covering her mouth as she realized what was inside.
Her adoptive mother's 'love' bracelet.
It was the only piece of jewelry that Nicolette could remember her mother wearing every day.
It was simple, small diamonds dripped off the chain in four different places and small, silver beads separated the diamonds elegantly.
Nicolette smiled weakly and slipped the bracelet onto her wrist.
Her something old.
...000...
Thirty minutes later Nicolette found herself walking down the isle to Max once again only this time it felt like a dream.
A beautiful dream.
At the makeshift alter, beneath the weeping magnolia that her parents had planted, Nicolette and Max promised to love each other forever and two days.
For the second time.
