A/N: Here's next chapter. I hope you all like it!

In the upcoming two weeks, I am hoping to update this story daily because college is starting soon, and I'll have limited time once classes start up again. So I'm trying my best to give you as many chapters as I can before school starts. But I do know that this story will not be done by then, since this only really the beginning of it.

Chapter 39: Shocking turn

After her visit to Langley, JJ had gone straight home to the apartment only to find out that Hotch was gone and had left a note saying he was catching up on paperwork all day, which led JJ to wonder if it was just code for him investigating Warren's death. She wasn't mad at him for not telling him what he was up to. She was after all doing the same. It just made her fear that he could discover her secret before her assignment was over, and she didn't want that. She wanted to finish her mission and then tell him she was leaving the CIA for him. The plan sounded simple in her head, but she knew it would probably be more difficult in the actual moment when she'd finally be facing him.

For now, JJ focused on her computer screen. She was sitting in the office in the apartment and was going over the file she had built, along with the CIA on Christian Ward. They didn't have any concrete proof that he was working with the Russians, or any group for that matter. But JJ had always felt that something was off with Ward. Something never seemed be right, and she just knew he was involved in something bigger than himself.

JJ scrolled down the page, her eyes landing on a picture of him. As always it send a chill through her body, a very bad one. He had cold and distant eyes that told her he had done some evil things during the course of his life. His body language spoke of arrogance and power. But in the time that JJ had been deep undercover with him to develop him as an asset, he was different with her. He actually had a different side than the one he had during his work. With JJ he was nice, if anyone would be willing to believe that. And it was that time with him that she'd eventually be able to use against him if he kept on trusting her loyalty to their illegal operation.

JJ was startled when her entire screen suddenly went black. She started pushing the power button but nothing was happening. As she sat back, a chatroom appeared on the screen and words filled her screen, making her realize she had been contacting by the hacker Todd knew.

TBQ: Hello Blondie! I heard you requested my expertise.

JJ sat back in her chair in both shock and happiness. But the fact that he knew she was blonde was cause of concern, but it also meant he was good. Very good. And that was exactly what she needed. She needed someone who was willing to hack and break into systems without leaving a trace and so far the CIA hadn't been willing to cross any lines, but JJ knew they had to be crossed to get somewhere, so she was going down that path of her own free will.

JJ: Yes, I did.

JJ kept her answer simple and to the point and waited to get back an answer. She wasn't going to reveal who she was yet. Telling someone she was an officer for the CIA could easily scare them away, and in this case she really couldn't risk it. But if the hacker was any good, he knew she was CIA no matter how hard she tried to hide it.

TBQ: What do you need?

JJ: I won't discuss any details in this chatroom. I'll only do this in person.

JJ once again waited for an answer, but this time there wasn't anything happening. The chatroom was dead silent for over ten minutes, when she realized she could offer money in return for the hacker's services.

JJ: I'll pay you.

TBQ: Go to the corner of Corcoran Street, NW at midnight. Directions will follow from there.

The user, TBQ, logged off before JJ could even respond. She knew the sudden change of heart from the hacker to meet with her either meant he needed the money or it was some sort of ploy. Todd had expressed that he was never willing to meet. So JJ wondered how she managed to changed his mind so quickly. It didn't seem right, but on the other hand, she knew he could be paranoid and just extremely careful of discovery and a revealed identity. Either way, she was still going. She needed something to uncover Christian Ward's network, and she needed a way to track down Asad Hawsawi. Those were two players who could do real damage to the world, and JJ was no longer willing to sit still and wait for the CIA to receive intell or make a choice regarding the operation.

On the other side of town, Hotch was walking out of a debriefing at FBI Headquarters. He had several files under his arm as he made his way through the building and out onto the parking lot. The FBI had put together a taskforce, comprised of several high ranking members within the FBI, to shed light on Tyler Warren's death. And for that the FBI needed to question those who were closest to him, which included JJ. He had only informed JJ that Warren might have had a connection to terrorism, but that was about it. She didn't know he had been in DC, and working to reveal more about the operation Warren was running within Chemicaltech Industries. During that time he had been able to postpone JJ's interview on multiple occasions. But it couldn't be put off any longer, and he had just been informed that the FBI planned to interview JJ within two hours without her knowledge. They had come to realize from several employees at Chemicaltech Industries that JJ had been a fixer and Warren's right hand since she started working for him. To the FBI it seemed suspicious, especially now that she was working closely with the newly appointed CEO of Chemicaltech Industries. Hotch himself of course didn't believe that JJ had any knowledge of Warren's death, let alone any ties to terrorism.

His job restricted him from passing on any information to her, but he had to let know what was going to happen. He felt that she deserved at least that much from him. So he picked up his phone and dialed the number, putting the phone to his ear. He was standing outside the building as it kept dialing, but JJ wasn't picking up. And when he heard the beep, he decided to leave a message for her. He quickly explained to her what was going to happen, and then he hung up the phone and went back into the building to continue the meeting with his superiors.

JJ was just sitting down in the chair at her office at Chemicaltech when her phone started beeping. She put her files on the desk and took the phone from her drawer, and saw that she had a voicemail message from Hotch. She put the phone to her ear to listen to the message, his greeting sending a shiver through her body.

''Hi JJ,'' he said tenderly, and then he halted for a moment. She could hear him breath in deeply, probably trying to search for words. It scared her a little. He sounded worried, which was a cause of concern for her. ''I…I don't know how to tell you this, or how I am supposed to explain this, but the FBI is going to visit you at Chemicaltech Industries within the hour to question you about Warren and any suspected ties he may have had to terrorism.'' he went on, giving JJ the shock of her life. The fact that she was being brought in for questioning meant that the FBI was further into the investigation than she could've expected. And it showed justification for Owen to have put Hotch under surveillance. It wasn't about her, it was about their case. And JJ had made it personal between them for no good reason. ''I'm not supposed to have told you this, and I could lose my job over this, but I love you and I couldn't lie to you.'' he said caringly. ''Be careful, and ask for a lawyer when you don't feel comfortable.''

That's when the line went dead and JJ was stunned. Her face was tense and her body was frozen. FBI involvement meant possible discovery of her identity, which could lead to interagency warfare. FBI and CIA had a bad history of communicating, and the discovery of the case JJ was working on could only lead to trouble for both agencies. So she immediately picked up her burner phone and dialed Owen's number, knowing it was a secure line. She started pacing through her office as she listened to the beeps. Once she heard his voice, she stopped in her tracks, and let her mind get into action.

''Owen,'' he greeted simply, waiting for the person on the other line to respond. ''Hello?''

JJ sat down in her chair to get herself together. ''Hi, it's me. We have a problem.'' she croaked out.

''What is it?''

''Aaron just informed me that the FBI is coming to my office to bring me in for questioning.'' she began. ''It's about Tyler Warren and his suspected ties to terrorism.''

''Do they know about the missing weapon?'' he asked with concern, knowing JJ was in a very bad situation. She was literally caught in the crosshairs. ''Okay, we'll figure this out, JJ.''

JJ suddenly remembered certain details she had given Hotch about her life that didn't match up with her cover story. ''Owen, if Aaron is going to be there and they're going to ask about my past, some things might not match up with my current identity.''

Owen jumped up from behind his desk and walked across the bullpen at SAD and into Todd's office, ready to have him alter anything about JJ's identity that was necessary to keep her out of trouble. ''What did you tell him?''

''My family.'' JJ croaked out. Her family, her past. All of it together was a horrifying memory for JJ, and even Owen didn't know anything about her past. She hadn't told him anything about it, but he also didn't ask just like she didn't ask him. For them it didn't matter. Being in the CIA meant getting a fresh start and getting a new life, and living different identities. Her past as Jennifer Caitlin Jareau wasn't a part of her life at the CIA. But it was a part of her life with Hotch. With him she was herself, her real self, and not anyone else. Or someone the CIA made up. ''You need to switch my family history of my real identity with the one I'm living now.'' she explained simply. ''My file says that I was an only child and that my parents are living in London.''

''JJ, I understand that you want to cover your tracks, but what if the FBI has already pulled your file?''

''If they had the CIA would've gotten an alert, remember!'' she reminded him. ''Just switch my family history with my real name, and it'll be fine.'' JJ forced, and then she suddenly heard voices in the hallway. She rose from her chair and walked towards her office window and she noticed two men in suits talking to the receptionist of their floor. ''Owen, they're here. I have to go.''

''I'll tell Todd to switch the files, JJ. Don't worry, everything will be taken care off.'' he assured. ''I'll tell Collins what's going on and he'll probably be able to get the FBI to back off through some of his contacts.'' he went on. ''And don't forget to plead the fifth to any questions they'll ask regarding our operation. You have the right to do that, but you shouldn't look too guilty so answer as many questions as you can.''

JJ felt a weight being lifted off of her shoulders as Owen gave her the advice. He was looking out for her, and assuring that she'd be fine. His assurances made her feel a little better. ''I did go to law school, Owen. I can take care of it. Thanks.'' she said and then she ended their call. She put the phone on her desk and sat back down, pretending to be working once they approached her. JJ knew she could pull it off. The most important thing was that Todd would switch her files in case Hotch was going to be present at the interview. She had been trained for situations like these. And at the farm she had scored across the board for deception training, which had initially scared her, but it was one the skills she had to possess in order to be an officer with the CIA.

JJ looked up from her desk when she heard the knock on her door. She looked at the two men and gave them a friendly nod. ''Hello, how can I help you?''

''I am Agent Crawford, and this is my colleague, Agent Palmer. We're with the FBI.'' he said as he showed JJ his credentials. ''We would like to escort you to our offices and ask you some questions about the death of Tyler Warren. Your boss.'' he added, when he noticed that JJ wasn't at all impressed. She barely even blinked. And from his experience most people were mostly taken aback when they were asked to come in for questioning.

''Yeah, of course. Whatever I can do to help.'' she said politely. She grabbed her purse, phone and coat and followed the agents out of her office. As they walked through the building JJ simply followed them by walking behind them. Once they got to the SUV, she jumped inside and heard the door being pushed shut after she got in.
