Months went by as the baby grew inside of Clara. Every so often, Clara would get snappy at Aiden, or get weird cravings for sweet or salty foods because of her pregnancy hormones. She had to admit that carrying a child took a lot of stress and work. They had also bought an actual home not too long after they discovered she was pregnant. They were still trying to figure out if they were willing to actually put the baby up for adoption and Clara did not want to be going into labor at a hotel.
Three months turned into four and Clara still hasn't told her father. She was still feeling anxious to tell him and she waited longer than she had hoped. She was waiting for the right time, but would there ever be a right time? She knew her father was going to travel to Quebec to see her at some point and she also knew it was starting to get close.
She and Aiden were lying in bed together. Aiden's hand was resting on top of her belly and they were looking at an article on her phone about the Black Dragon going quiet in Chicago. Her father must have been shutting the whole business down.
"Looks like your dad is getting ready to leave Chicago," Aiden said as Clara turned the screen off.
She bit her lip nervously, "Well...maybe not. Papa hasn't said anything about leaving Chicago yet."
He sighs, "I'm sure he will soon. We gotta tell him at some point."
She stared down at the bump in her belly and sighs, "I know."
Silence filled the room as Clara caught sight of Aiden gazing down at her stomach while caressing it with one hand, appearing lost in thought. Aiden soon took notice of Clara staring at him with a small smirk on her face.
"What?" He said, smiling as well.
Her gaze shifted back to her belly and she chuckles, "You don't want to put her up for adoption, do you?"
They recently found out they were having a baby girl. His expression turned serious and he paused fot a moment before replying, "No..."
Clara's smirk turned into a huge grin. She was happy to know that Aiden was willing to try with her.
"It's just...what if I'm not cut out to be a good father?"
She frowned and softly placed her hand on his cheek, "I'm sure you'll be a great father, and I know being a parent is a scary thing."
His lips pressed into a hard line, "What if she finds out who I really am when she gets older? I've done a lot of shitty things..."
"How would she find out about you so soon? We're in Quebec, not in America anymore, and even if she does somehow find out, we can talk it out with her. The baby hasn't even fully grown yet and you're already thinking about these things."
He sighs, "You're right. I guess I am getting ahead of myself, but it's just because I'm..." he trailed off.
"Nervous?" Clara finished his sentence for him. "It's okay you can say it."
He chuckles, "Yeah...I guess I am a little nervous."
"I can't say I'm not nervous," Clara started, causing Aiden to look at her. "But it's completely normal. I mean the both of us have never expected a baby before, but we'll work things out. Just try not to get ahead of yourself. Okay?"
Aiden gazed at her longingly with a small grin on his face, feeling a strange mix of emotions. It was something that he figured out was called love. He didn't know if now was the best time to tell her, but it was now or never.
He took a deep breath before he gently placed his hand along the side of her neck. "Clara," he said her name softly, "I...I've been meaning to tell you something for a while now."
Clara noticed the change in his tone and she immediately got anxious. She wanted to ask what he wanted to say, but she decided to stay silent and let him speak.
"Clara...I...I have feelings for you."
Upon hearing this, she quickly relaxed and she felt strangely warm inside.
"Did you start feeling this way when you found out I was pregnant?"
He shook his head. "No. Before that. I just didn't want to say that I was in love with you so soon since we were only been dating for a couple weeks," he explained.
Clara smiled widely, feeling the same strange sense of happiness as he was.
"You're in love with me?"
"Yeah..."
She chuckles before placing a soft kiss on his lips. "People may call you dangerous, but you certainly know how to be a sweetheart," she says with a smirk.
"Only to the right kinds of people," he grinned.
"Well I love you too," she said before nuzzling her head into his chest.
He placed his hand on top of her head while the other remained on her belly. Clara clasped her hand on top of his before drooping her eyes tiredly and taking a well deserved nap.
Five more months passed after that and they both had gone shopping for baby clothes, a crib, and whatever else the baby needed. It was the ninth month which meant it was the last month she'd have to carry the child and she thanked the lord for that; however, this was also the day she'd tell her father that she was pregnant. She felt dumb for not saying anything sooner, but her anxiety got the better of her, plus she didn't want to make him worry when he was trying to settle and get out of Chicago safely.
Clara sat with Aiden on the bed whild staring at her father's contact on her phone screen. She bit at the tip of her nails nervously while staring down at her phone screen, mentally trying to prepare herself to call her father and give him the news. Aiden was sitting beside her as he gently rubbed her back. He'd be there for her the whole way. Her thumb hovered over the call button and Aiden knew she was nervous as hell.
"I know that this is bad timing to tell him," he started, "But he needs to know."
Clara took a glance at him before slowly nodding, "I'm aware," she replied before taking a deep breath.
"And try not to stress too much; it's not good for the baby."
She gazed down at her unborn child, nearly forgetting that stess wasn't good for her. After a few seconds of calming herself down and working up her courage, she hit the call button. She immediately reached over and grasped Aiden's hand firnly.
After the third ring, he answered, "Clara, how are you? I'm just about to head to the airport."
Aiden could see the worry in her eyes and he lightly squeezed her hand reassuringly.
"Papa..." she says, "T-There's something you should know."
"Well what is it dear?" He sounded concerned.
She bit her lip before replying, "This is something you should have known before, but..."
She went silent. Alex waited for a reply, but he got none which caused him to worry.
"Clara, what is it? You're making me a little uneasy."
She went for it, "I'm pregnant," she said before releasing a shaky sigh.
"What?" He said after a short pause.
Clara clutched tightly onto Aiden's hand before letting out another sigh, "I'm pregnant, Papa. I've been pregnant...for about nine months now."
"You...you are?"
She paused briefly before replying, "Yes..."
There was a slight pause on the other end. She expected him to scold her and yell at her through the phone, but he did the exact opposite. He began to tackle her with questions, "Well why didn't you tell me before? What are you doing with the child? Is Aiden still there with you? If he isn't so help me God-"
"Papa, Papa. Calm down. He's still here."
"Good. He better be," I heard him sigh as he attempted to slow his sentences down. "Now, are you two raising the child or are you not ready?"
"Well..." Clara started, "We intend to keep the baby and raise her."
"It's a she?"
"Yes...Papa."
"Clara..." she heard him sigh, "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I just thought that you'd be angry."
"Of course I'm not angry at you, Clara. I'm just surprised, but also upset that you didn't say anything to me before," she heard him chuckle. "Still I didn't think I'd be a grandfather so soon."
Clara found herself sighing in relief, "We didn't expect to have a child so soon either."
"Did you get everything she needs? Like a crib, food, clothes?"
"Papa, we've taken care of all that. Don't worry."
"Good. Have you thought of a name yet?"
Clara went silent before taking a glance at Aiden, who simply shrugged his shoulders.
"No, we haven't."
"Oh that's alright. Sometimes you don't know what to name the child until you see them."
There was a short silence between them for a moment before Alex spoke again. "Once I get on the plane, it should take me about 8 hours to get there. I hope I'm not too late for her birth if she does decide to come out."
"I'm not sure when she'll decide to come out, but...I expect it at any moment."
"I'm very excited to see her," she could practically hear him smiling through the phone. "Please send me photos when you can...I'll be there soon."
"Okay, Papa. I love you."
"I love you too," he said, "And I'll learn to love the young one as well."
Clara smiled warmly.
"I'll be there soon," he said, making Clara grin from ear to ear as she and Aiden shared a look of happiness and relief.
Journal #19
Well, I guess I could say I'm on the edge of giving birth soon. It has been several hours since I've told Papa about my pregnancy...finally and I was just as surprised from his reaction as Aiden's. He sounded surprised yet a little hurt I didn't tell him earlier.
Papa said he'd be arriving in Quebec some time soon by flight. As for the baby, I can't help but feel anxious for her to come into this world. These past several months, I've been contemplating whether I'd be a good mother or not and to be honest, I still don't know, but I've been trying to prepare myself every single day for when the time comes for the little one to arrive.
I'm certain Aiden is unsure if he's ready to be a parent as well. He has told me about it, but I reassured him not to get ahead of himself time and time again. I can feel the baby kicking and it hurts like hell. Oh God it really hurts now. I think she's-
