This is inspired by the current storm that's happening right now. I needed something to write about, so i hope this is decent!
Wind harshly blew the rain currently pelting Orihime's window. Her power currently went out and she was left alone in the darkness. Before the war, Orihime would've been terrified of being alone in the dark. But since then, she's learned that there's much scarier things out there than storms. This is the first one that's happened since her return and she welcomed the loud crashing of thunder.
Wrapping herself in the blanket, she struggled to stay warm, the night being rather cool during the usual summer night. The only source of comfort was her cell phone, which she was clutching tightly in her hands. She closed her eyes and she silently prayed he would return safely. He said he was staying out a bit later due to work, but it didn't make her fears rest easy. She wanted him right here, beside her with his arms wrapped around her.
Resting her head on her knees, Orihime shakily opened her phone to find his number, pressing it with shaky fingers before holding the device to her ears, silently hoping he would answer. When it went to voice mail, she sighed before a few tears slid down her cheeks, closing her phone before wrapping the blanket closer to her shaking body. The shirt he usually wore to bed was currently on her body, allowing her to bury her nose into the fabric, inhaling his scent. It was the only sense of comfort she had at the moment, and though she wished she had the real thing, this would do for now.
'Come home... please...'
In her state of mind, trying to sense his reiatsu was pointless, as every time he was out in the world of the living, Kisuke made him wear a device that cloaked his presence. It was the only way he was allowed to remain here without being caught by the Soul Society or even be a threat to them. As happy she was for him being allowed here, she'd rather have the chances of him being caught if it meant she knew where he was.
So lost in her thoughts, she failed to hear the door open and a few curses slip from the blue-haired espada as he shook the contraption known as an umbrella dry of any water. He was able to find the hook in the darkness, allowing him to hang it up to dry as he proceeded to take off his shoes.
"Princess? Where are you?"
The sound of a whimper caught his attention and he frowned before quickly running to the sound. When he saw a lump on the couch, he couldn't stop the sigh of relief escape his lips before he approached her. He treaded carefully, noticing the smell of tears for the first time.
She was worried about him.
He knew this as he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket but failed to answer in time. If he had it his way, he would've taken off the damn suppression device he was forced to wear. But it was the only way to keep both of them safe, and he didn't want to put his princess in danger.
Her face was buried in her knees, her body shook and he felt his chest tighten seeing her in such distress. Bending down in front of her, he gently placed his hand on her head, keeping his eyes locked on her form as she jumped in alarm. It seemed she was in a daze before she blinked several times, trying to clear the haze from her mind. She hoped she wasn't hallucinating again, as she always did when she felt lonely. But the hard blue eyes never faded and she felt her arms stretch subconsciously to his form before wrapping around his neck.
The one hand he placed on her head joined his other as they wrapped around her back, pulling her into his warm embrace. He felt her face bury into the crook of his neck and felt her shudder from the cold air. He briefly inhaled her scent and awkwardly rubbed her back as a way of trying to comfort her. Despite being with Orihime for this long, he still wasn't used to being gentle or friendly. He knew he acted a bit softer around her, but to everyone else, he was still ruthless and arrogant as he could be. He didn't want anyone to know this human girl had him whipped. Returning his attention to the girl in his arms, He felt her shiver slightly from the temperature difference, though Grimmjow didn't pay attention to it. Bringing her closer, he moved slightly to grab the blanket and wrapped it around her hunched shoulders. He may not have felt cold, but she obviously did and he didn't want her to catch a cold. He would do everything he could to keep her warm and happy.
Everything else didn't matter.
"You're here." She hiccuped before pulling away slightly to look into his cobalt blue eyes. She felt a smile creep at her lips, though the tears still fell, only slightly slower than before. "You're back."
Gently wiping a tear from her eye, he felt a smirk form on his lips, "Come on now. Did you really think a storm could keep me from you? If the Soul Society hasn't stopped me, what makes you think this pathetic weather can?"
She laughed lightly before being silenced by his lips, a low growl emitted from his throat at she complied with his wishes, though he could still feel a smile on her occupied lips. Wanting to make her comfortable, he picked her up, keeping their lips together, before walking towards their bedroom. The blanket was still tightly covering her small form as he gently placed her down on the bed. He shrugged out of his sweater and shirt, not wanting to sleep in wet clothing. Though the umbrella covered most of him, the parts that weren't covered got soaked by the harsh rain.
Feeling a tug on his arm, he couldn't stop the smirk from forming on his lips at his princess' abrasiveness. It seems she really wanted to be wrapped up in his arms and never let him leave. The feeling is mutual as he wanted to wrap himself with her and never let her go. He didn't want her to ever leave this house but he knew people would start being suspicious if they never saw her on a daily basis. Instead he busied himself with roaming around the city, occasionally challenging Kurosaki to a match when he got bored.
Finally joining her in bed, he felt her sigh in contentment before she snuggled against his chiselled chest. At rare moments like this, he allowed her to cuddle with him while they slept. Today was one of those days as he wanted to reassure her he was physically here for her.
The storm continued to rage on outside, but the couple failed to notice as they succumbed to a peaceful darkness.
