Kikyo was furious. How dare he return to my woods, start pawing at me, then pull back like a mad man? Inuyasha had changed. But why? She hadn't seen him for weeks, then he shows up out of the blue.
She was this close. Once he gives himself to her fully, she will be able to trap him inside a whirlwind of souls and take him to hell with her. She will finally be free, free of Narakus constant nagging.
Speaking of which, she hearda rustle in the trees. She didn't have to turn around, she could tell easily by the lack of soul.
"What do you want tonight, Naraku?" She asked dully.
"Today you don't want my company? Any other night my presence is welcomed, why the sudden change?"
"How did Inuyasha escape from that tree? No one in their right mind would have taken that arrow out of his chest."
Naraku adjusted his pelt, and pushed his long black, curly hair out of his face.
"He never told you? Inuyasha did not bother to tell you why he stays away? Who woke him up and who he shares his days with? Kikyo, your soul has been reincarnated. He has taken a new love, and left you here to wait for him. You foolish girl. Consider it revenge for the affair you had Onigumo and Inuyasha."
"Oh you shut up! Are you still bitter about that? You know that I was leaving him, I just couldn't afford the rampage that I knew would come if he found out about us. But you lured him there didn't you? He destroyed a village. All my friends, dead because of my inability to tell him the truth."
"What made you take an interest in him at all, when Onigumo was still on the road? He was returning back to you."
"I felt pity. He was all alone, no family, a half breed. The moment he realized who I was he wanted to kill me for the jewel. So I was determined to change him. However, there was no changing Inuyasha." She shook her head.
He laughed, "It's a shame he came upon you and Onigumo that afternoon. He really loved you, you heartless wench. Maybe you and me are perfect for each other, after all."
"I don't want to be with anyone anymore. I just want to be laid to rest. My time on this earth is long over."
"Are you going to confront Inuyasha about your reincarnation? If you got your soul back, you could do whatever you wanted."
Kikyo didn't say anything. I wonder if I can get him to bring her here.
Inuyasha tried to focus on training with his sword, but could not stop thinking about Kagome.
What is she doing right now? Does she miss me? Should I go visit? I need to go tell her to stop being foolish and come back to me.
He shook his head in frustration. Was it worth it? Losing Kagome over this stupid sword. He clunked it against a tree. He didn't understand why Sesshomoru wanted this rusty piece of junk anyways.
He slumped on the ground, in a fit. This sucked. He heard through the grapevine that an old man named Totosai was the man who created the sword, but he traveled so it would be dificult to find him. He didn't want to go the wrong way and their paths never cross. Ugh, without Kagome he didn't know which way to go.
It had been three weeks since Inuyasha, Miroku and Shippo had left Kogas wolf tribe. Every day was worse than the other. Shippo has been nonstop asking to go visit her. He missed her, she wasn't mean like the others. No one wanted to play the card game Kagome showed him. He was driving him nuts.
Miroku asked him last night how he was doing. Inuyasha put up a strong front.
"We're better off without her. I don't even miss her."
However, as soon as the others had fallen asleep. He swiftly ran over two hours to her village. No one guarded her hut anymore, so he sat outside her door. When someone would pass he sat on her roof. He needed to be around her. To feel her around, that and to make sure Koga kept his distance. So far he had been unnoticed, but he wanted to do more.
One time he even opened her door, she was sound asleep. She no longer wore her modern clothes. Her pale skin looked luminescent from the moonlight pouring in. He wanted to go in, but he was too afraid. Maybe a different day.
Why did he want so strongly to be with Kagome, but was still unwilling to give up Kikyo. He knew he was being a jerk but he couldn't help it. Something about Kikyo, she was his first love. He was going to marry her.
As he lay on her roof that night, staring up at the clear sky, he decided enough time had past they could come visit. He'll make some excuse about hearing Totosai was near Kaedes village. That they were just stopping by, he needed to hear her voice.
Kagome heard the tiny thump on the roof from Inuyashas feet. Ever since the day he left he had been coming to visit every night. One time he even dared to open the door. She was so nervous, she closed her eyes and slowed her breathing. It was heartbreaking when he didn't come inside. It made her feel secure in a new home, him coming every night. Now she could not fall asleep until she heard the thump of his feet on the roof.
