Hello my faithful readers. It is I, Man of Cartoons, once again with another chapter.
I'm so so so sorry for not updating last month. I've been so busy! Just a note, I'm aware in some chapters I said this crossovers would be brief. I'm sorry for that. My mind just got to expanding certain ideas until now we got this.
Also I went back to change the previous chapters and changed their titles from The Battle for the Multiverse to The Ultimate Search. Why? Well because of two reasons. The first is because the name sounded kind of bland. And the second is because this arc is basically what this fanfiction series has been riding to. If you didn't know, read the summary and then you'll get it.
So does it mean we're drawing to its end? Nope, not at all.
So without any delay, here's the next chapter.
Chapter 18: The Ultimate Search Part 5: Avatar Aang vs Nefarius.
Before meeting Ben, Aang never would've thought he would be in an all too familiar dimension. It was odd really when he thought about it. He had jumped right into a portal to stop Nefarius from doing whatever his aim until now he found that task wasn't so easy. In fact, it was hard.
So upon jumping up into the air, Aang narrowly avoided being hit by three ecto orbs. He had seen the monster, Nefarius, shoot them from his mouth, directly at his way, before then dodging them in time as they stuck to the ground in their round shape.
However, unknown to the Avatar, these blasts were meant to miss him. Their purpose wasn't to hit him, but instead to start ticking like a bomb upon making contact to the ground. And since the latter happened while Aang was in the air, the boy had no idea about the sounds until they exploded and hit him with enough power. Fortunately, the Avatar was able to do a flip and land on the ground, with his feet dragging on the ground's surface.
'Nefarius is tough.' Aang thought to himself. 'I've been fighting him for a while now and he doesn't seem to weigh down.'
"That is correct, Avatar." Nefarius suddenly said.
"Huh?" Aang expressed in shock.
The look on the boy's face was disbelief as he stood fully up. He had only stated what he thought in his mind before then seeing Nefarius walking towards him with a grin on his face.
"I can hear your thoughts, Avatar." Nefarius stated, much to the Avatar's thought. "It doesn't matter how you try, because in the end, I will win this fight and conquer your world."
"Not if I have anything to do about that." Aang said back determinedly.
"Hahaha…we'll see."
Suddenly, right before Aang's eyes, the villain ran straight at him. The speed he went was remarkable, as the distance between him and the monster was instantly shortened before Aang could react. Fortunately, the teen was able to catch sight of the supervillain at the last second before making a huge jump backwards. However, this didn't go completely well as Nefarius was able to catch up to him before his feet could touch the ground and land a punch directly at his face, sending him crashing through the surface of the ground.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Nefarius laughed evilly.
From the looks of it, the Avatar had been affected by the blow. His body hadn't been prepared for such a strong hit, especially as he never thought Nefarius's blows could be any bad. But just a second after the supervillain's evil laugh, Aang was able to get back on his feet before then getting into one of the few known earthbending stance.
Just then, before Nefarius's line of sight, Aang went into action. He sent his right foot forward, followed by striking the end of his foot against the ground, with such force that a large trail of rocks erupted from Aang's stance and headed to Nefarius. The supervillain, however, didn't seem worried about the Avatar at all. In fact, he stayed in place and let the attack approach him before then shooting beams from his eyes that shattered the whole thing, creating a dust cloud.
However, unknown to Nefarius, the attack was a diversion. Aang had expected the monster to do something like that since their fight had been one sided from the start. And now that Aang had gotten him to act, he made a huge jump at him, courtesy of his airbending, and came through the dust cloud with a spin and his staff in hand. Before the supervillain knew what to do, Aang hit him with such force of air from his staff that he was forced back, with his huge feet dragging through the earth's surface.
From the looks of it, Aang had the upper hand now that he had caught the supervillain off guard. He was able to charge at him with his airbending speed before then making a leap at the supervillain, ready to use another blow. However, this time, Nefarius was able to catch sight of him before attempting to swat him with his large hand in an attempt to hit him. But it turned out he didn't entirely succeed.
It turned out then that Aang's quick reflex had come to his aid as it allowed him to hang on to the supervillain's arm by clinging on to his small thorns. His new position kept him from being flung away, as with his determination he stayed in place until Nefarius stopped moving. Then once that happened, he ran up the monster's huge arm and headed straight for his head, while at the same time preparing to strike.
But before he got to that, Aang prepared himself. He shook his staff so the bottom fin of the staff opened before then making a jump for Nefarius's face, where he swiftly twirled the staff to gather powerful air power and sent it for the supervillain's body. The close impact got Nefarius's as Aang intended, as it sent him flying a few feet and hitting the ground on his back.
However, the fight was far from over. Nefarius was able to able to get back on his feet soon after while Aang landed on the ground, perfectly on his feet. The teen only had a few seconds after to react after as Nefarius snarled angrily before shooting four red beams from his eyes, with precise accuracy.
Fortunately, Aang was able to act fast upon seeing it. He made a huge sideways jump, before, upon making contact with the ground, running straight at Nefarius in full speed, by the aid of his airbending. His speed was so remarkable that a gush of dust was behind him as he ran to the best of his abilities while keeping watch of Nefarius's next move.
Nefarius was no foe to underestimate, as he proven that in the past. He could see the speed Aang was rushing towards him, and so didn't seem so intimidated by it in the slightest. It did, however, get him to shoot beams after beams from his eyes, where each shot the Avatar dodged caused it to hit the ground and exploded.
At the same time, Aang could feel how dangerously the ground shook. He knew the blasts he dodged were very devastating, as even then he could see particles of dusts and rocks past him while he ran. He had only closed a bit of the gap, and already Nefarius was close to getting him.
But then a thought came to Aang while he closed the distance. Where were they exactly?
Ever getting through that battle, Aang and Nefarius had been at each other. The Avatar knew in a sense that they were still in the Spirit World, though their location was something unknown to him. In the Spirit World, there's an energy current only he, the Avatar, and inhabitants of said world could feel. But even though he doesn't visit the Spirit World so often, there was a level of energy he recognized from it.
However, their location for the time being was different. It had a high sense of spiritual energy than other places Aang had visited in the Spirit World. And though he was certain he hadn't visited the place before, he couldn't help but find it all too familiar. The skies were surprisingly odd in a doodle like formation, while their current battle field seemed to be some kind of terrain with huge spiky rocks around.
Unfortunately, the time to figure out his surroundings was very limited. If Aang stopped for a second, like he did upon entering the portal, he would be struck again by the supervillain. It also didn't help that Nefarius barely gave him time to speak or even contemplate on familiar sensation he felt.
So while Aang wanted so much to figure things out, his attention was on Nefarius. He was able to avoid a few other beams from Nefarius before coming to a stop and sending the end of his foot into the ground, where he then caused a line of cracks to head towards Nefarius's right leg which in turn caused big chunk of rock to come out from below.
Aang's move there came as a surprise as it affected the supervillain. It caused the supervillain to stumble back just to save his footing and at the same time doing what Aang intended for him to do. So even if he could figure it out, it was already too late once Aang ran forward with a gush of air from his feet and stomped his right leg on the ground. This was then followed with his right arm sent sideways forward, which in turn caused a wave of huge rocks to shoot out from the ground and hit the supervillain's other leg, causing him to lose his footing.
But that didn't mean Aang was done with Nefarius. He had seen how effective his attack had been on the supervillain, when suddenly he ran underneath the supervillain with incredible speed before he could hit the ground. Then, with the amount of air he gathered from his run, he spun his body and created a mini tornado around him before then raising his staff above his head and spinning it rapidly.
Now at this point, there wasn't anything Nefarius could do to stop Aang. The Avatar spun his staff with much effort and power that he launched the monster high up in the air, with uncertainty on how far he sent him. He did look up once he did the act, as even then he couldn't help but see how far the supervillain was sent away. But then when he did, he only got the chance to see Nefarius's body, in the form of a small dot, coming right to the ground directly for him.
Fortunately, the Avatar was wise enough not to stand in one place. He took the chance he had to run as far as he could before coming to a stop a few meters away where he then felt the ground shake. Apparently, that shake, not surprising, was from Nefarius, who now lay in a crater about his size on his front side.
However, unknown to Aang, this action caught the interest of a very evil entity. He couldn't do anything from his position, as he was imprisoned in a tree by a foe he once faced long ago. But not surprising, this foe had a very good relation with the Avatar himself.
But while this foe watched from his prison, Aang didn't seem to notice his presence yet. He was just there, standing on his own, when a small smile of accomplishment came across his face before he blow his head in relief.
"I guess that's over." He muttered.
At this point, the Avatar was pleased with how things were. Nefarius remained motionless while he stood victorious from a fight that he would admit was on par with his battle with Ozai a year ago. But just when he thought about turning away, he heard chuckling laughter from Nefarius's place.
"No way." Aang whispered. His face mixed with shock and worry.
The laughing continued.
In the past, Nefarius had taken bigger hits more than Aang knew. He had faced powerful heroes such as Danny Phantom, Rex Salazar, Timmy Turner and Bunny Utonium with minor problems until now he was an incredible powerful being. And now that he experienced what he would admit was a sligbhtly impress move, he stood back to his feet with no sign of pain before facing the Aang once more.
"I'll admit I felt that just a little, Avatar." He stated with a hint of excitement in his voice. "However, I can do so much better."
The Avatar snarled angrily in response. He had a feeling Nefarius was right about the latter, as even there he could feel the monster's rising power. It made him feel a bit tensed and at the same time acknowledge the fact that the fight was far from over.
So with Nefarius's words heard by him verily, Aang got into a waterbending stance and moved his hands in a known fashion for the water in the air around Nefarius to restrain. He made sure the water were tied wrapped around the monster's arms and legs before setting some around his stomach and his neck to keep him at bay. However, while it seemed effective, Nefarius laughed loudly until Aang was done restraining him.
"Nice try, Avatar!" Nefarius shouted mockingly.
At this point, the supervillain felt he had seen enough from the Avatar. He could tell Aang was more powerful than this, but for the time being decided to act before letting is green aura shine bright to the point it blinded him. Then, while the Avatar was seemingly distracted, he broke free from his restrain and rushed at Aang with an intended blow, while at the same time reducing the light.
Fortunately, Aang was able to act quickly before he could be hit. He did this by making a huge jump backwards with the aid of his airbending, with the intention on getting more space between him and the monster. But then, while he was in the air, he watched in shock as Nefarius's fist against the ground he once stood caused a shockwave that almost devastated the landscape.
However, that wasn't all the monster had up his sleeve. In fact, he showed another impressive feat when he appeared next to Aang and caught him within his huge hand and threw him through the air.
Unknown to Aang, this was the first of many things Nefarius could do to him. He found the speed he was thrown to be very straining as even he couldn't control the way he was sent. And just when he was about to turn his staff into a glider, Nefarius appeared right before him and swung his huge fist with so much force that Aang lost his grip on his staff as he was sent crashing through the surface of the ground.
Now from the looks of it, Aang's chances of winning were dwindling. He had just made a trail on the ground from that hit from Nefarius, when suddenly he felt the strain from getting up, He didn't want to give the supervillain the chance to get on him, so he had no other choice but to man up and get back on his two feet.
Unfortunately, his chance to prevail was taken from him brutally when Nefarius came again. The supervillain had another thought in mind as he rushed over to Aang and kicked him like a football that I sent him flying through the air, a single rock and then crashing through the surface of the air. This time Aang didn't stand up.
"Haha! I congratulate you, Avatar, for surviving this long." Nefarius stated in amusement.
It was secret then that the supervillain was belittling the Avatar. He had for a while decided to go a bit out on him before now realizing that he could end up killing the boy before he could go all out on him. Hence, he causally walked over to him and snapped his fingers, causing a bunch of vines to shoot out from underneath Aang and restrained him in a form of bondage.
"Now isn't that better?" Nefarius continued to amuse.
Aang said nothing in response. He let out a groan from his mouth before moving his head at the supervillain who he then glared angrily at. He would've tried to break free, but his current position made him unable to bend any of the four elements needed to break free. However, even if he could, it wasn't much longer before the vines surprisingly sparked small traces of electricity before sending high voltage of it at him, causing him to scream in pain.
"Oh, Avatar, you were so promising." Nefarius amused once again. He watched Aang's pain for a brief moment before waving his finger, which ended it. "Honestly, did you really believe you had a chance against me?" He asked rhetorically. "I am a being beyond your world's comprehension. You see, you never had a chance against me. Why? Because I've killed heroes with your kind heart, destroyed their world while bringing emotional suffering to young Tennsyon.. I am not Azula, Ozai, the face stealer or any being you have and could've faced…even not for the fact I'll be killing you soon."
Aang didn't like the sound of that.
"Don't be like that, Avatar." Nefarius stated and laughed a bit. "Did Tennyson not tell you every detail about me? Because if he haven't…then let me just tell you…there's more to fear than you realize. You see, I've obtained power beyond anything you and your future lifetimes would ever be able to see. I have the powers of a large variety of ghosts…"
He stopped for a moment to let his green aura to shine.
"…the almost unlimited wish granting ability of a fairy."
He summoned a giant fairy wand to appear in his hand and disappear.
"…and the ability to construct powerful machinery with just a single thought."
Just then, he made his right arm to change into a giant grey sword before the Avatar's eyes. He did it out of his own ego and pride as a supervillain, as to him the Avatar would be scared by all he is doing and saying. But then, why did the Avatar crack a small smile despite all this?
"He's smiling?"Nefarius thought to himself. He could see right before him that the boy was indeed smile when really he should be scared. It annoyed him. "What's so amusing, Avatar?" He asked with a daring tone.
"Just a thought." Aang answered honestly. "I'm just wondering…if you're so powerful, then why haven't you been able to beat Ben? I mean he's just a kid like me…with a few exceptions."
Nefarius growled in a low tone in response. "You do realize with just a few words I can have your whole world, your friends included, to be gone, right? I can make them eat each other, I can have each of them explode into countless atoms or…"
"And then what?" Aang suddenly fired back. "You seek power, don't you?! That's what this is all about!"
Nefarius was taken aback by this. He didn't expect the Avatar to have so much will power in him, especially in the situation he was in. After all, he knew that Ben would've told Aang mostly what he, a monster, had done to his friends and other worlds. But now that the Avatar was speaking, he could feel the boy's will power increase as he continued.
"I've seen it all before, just enough to understand." Aang said confidently. "So I can tell you this. If you define yourself by your power to take life, the desire to dominate, to possess, then you have nothing." (A/N: Star Wars Rebls Obi-Wan quote)
"And what do you have?" Nefarius asked.
"More than what you'll never have. An actual life; something you can never have. I have those I can laugh with, fight with, grow with and live with for the rest of my life. You have none of that."
The words said by the Avatar came honest and clear as they reached Nefarius's elf-like ears. It made the supervillain pause as his eyes narrowly glared at him before then causing the vines to shock him once more. Not surprising, Aang screamed due to the pain as he felt it go all over his body.
"Your will is strong. Perhaps, too strong for my liking." Nefarius causally told him. "That is why after I'm done here, I'll let you watch as I kill your friends and those who you consider family right before your very eyes. And just when I've done that, I'll let you witness the destruction of both your world and the Spirit World before leaving you in a breathable energy sphere in space for the rest of your life. Let's see how much your will power last then…that is if it isn't broken before then."
"Y-YO-YOU WIL-WILL NE-NE-NEVER WI-WIN!" Aang shouted in rebuke.
"I already have." Nefarius replied firmly. He waved his finger at the vines once again, stopping their shocking torture on the Avatar before walking to his side and speaking again. "As much as I would love to end you right now, I'm actually close to ending…this…ultimate search."
"Huh?" Aang was confused.
"My search." Nefarius said and grinned. He then came to a stop by the young Avatar's side, not looking at him, before continuing. "Ben Tennyson doesn't know this yet, but my rampage through different worlds weren't for just for the practice and power. No…there's much more to it."
What Nefarius said there and then was confusing. This was because, for Aang, he hadn't known the supervillain other than being a monstrous foe with a psychotic mind. But then again, as the monster spoke, he found that thought to change.
"You see, Avatar, I have one goal." Nefarius continued in his monologue. "All this time I crossed through worlds, making alliance and acquiring abnormal powers has been to prepare myself for THE ultimate power. That power…is the Book of Narration.
'The Book of Narration?' Aang questioned in thought.
However, it wasn't known then if Nefarius heard his thoughts like before. The reason for this was because Nefarius only paused before continuing his monologue. "With this goldly book, I can control every single world in the multiverse, including those that possess beings more powerful than I, like the man of one punch, the species known as Saiyans and their elderly godly beings, those who've eaten things known as the Devil Fruits, the all powerful Kryptonian and many more."
Now this was very surprising to the Avatar. Even though Aang had just met the supervillain a while ago, he could tell that this ambition of his was beyond bad. So then, even though he was still recovering from the shock, he was able to think over what he just learned.
However, his time for that moment came to an end as Nefarius walked passed him. He made sure to snap his fingers so the vines would turn the Avatar to his direction, before coming to a stop where he heard the Avatar gasp as his eyes laid on what was before him.
"Surprised, Avatar?" Nefarius snickered. He let a side of his head turn at the teen hero before continuing. "If you're having any doubt about this…just don't. We're exactly where we are. We are at the place where it all began…the cycle of the Avatar.
"No…impossible." Aang muttered in shock.
What he was seeing right there and then was something he once thought impossible. He had known about the place and its history due to a being that lives within him as the source of his Avatar powers. But now that he was in that very place, his surroundings all made sense, as his eyes were on the black and red spiritual being imprisoned within a very looking tree.
"That's…Vaatu." Aang muttered.
Nefarius laughed in response to him. He could sense the shock within Avatar before then turning to him fully, with his arms spread up and a wide open grin on his face. "Here's to a wonderful reunion! Avatar Aang, I present Vaatu, your old foe!"
But he didn't stop there just yet. He let his wide gaping mouth close as a sly smile came across his face, where he then looked slyly at the Avatar. "…And the place where the Northern and Southern Poles connect."
Suddenly, Nefarius's was a bit taken aback by what happened next. He noticed a bright light coming from the Avatar while at the same time feeling as immense power radiating from the boy himself. And just when it died down, he felt a powerful air blast blow right past him with such force that it made his feet skid through the ground a bit.
"So…this is the Avatar State." Nefarius muttered. "Interesting." He smirked.
True to his words, what he saw before him was Avatar Aang in the famous state of power, The Avatar State. The boy had a deadly scowl on his face, as his eyes were centered on the smirking supervillain, who he looked down up from the top of an air tornado he created. But before said supervillain could do anything, Aang moved his arms a bit in the air before then sending both up in such a way that the rocks underneath Nefarius sent him up into the air. Then, while he was in the air, the Avatar, by his right hand, moved it in a circle by his side to gather large amount of water to surround it before sending it forward at Nefarius, who in the end got hit and crashed into the ground hard.
"I do not know what you have planned." Aang said in an echoic and powerful voice. "But as the Avatar, and in the name of the spirit that lives within me, I will stop you."
At this point, not much already known about the Avatar could be said. He was in his most invincible state with such power that Nefarius could still feel it from his crash site. Apparently, Aang's blast had sent him away from the terrains and to the forest area, where he now got back on his feet.
Nefarius thought for the time alone to look around. He recognized where he was from being in the air earlier, before finding his time interrupted by the Avatar. This time, Aang landed a some meters from him with so much power, the trees and earth was thrown off until it became a ruptured landscape. Even Nefarius had to keep a better footing in order not to be thrown away.
'Such power…' Nefarius thought to himself. Then he grinned sharply. "I like it." He muttered.
From the looks of it, a battle unlike most of what Nefarius had gone through was about to begin. He liked the thought of fighting the Avatar as his full power, very much, as it may prove to be greater than the powers of the previous heroes he killed. And so, with a loud roar, his whole body began to radiate bright neon green color as he too decided to extend his power to fight the Avatar.
Now, with both foes at a greater length of their individual power, Nefarius chuckled before making a large jump at the Avatar.
"LET'S BEGIN!"
CHAPTER END
And well, that happened.
What do you think? Pretty epic, right? Now you know why Nefarius has been going through universes, doing what he did for power. But you don't know some things he hasn't revealed yet. So you're gonna have to wait and see in the next chapter.
Now I know some of you may be surprised and probably want to correct me on some things, so please hear me out. I haven't seen a lot about Avatar Korra, so my knowledge about Vaatu and the Harmonic Convergence in Legends of Korra is limited. The only thing I saw was the fight between Avatar Wan and Vaatu. In fact, even now I had to go back and rewatch it in order to change certain descriptions of the surroundings. But if I did leave anything out or forgot something, either wait for the next chapter or take this story as an alternate take on what you know.
Now with that out of the way, on with the reviews.
REVIEW REPLES
Tooniverse: Thank you very much. I try my best to make these teamups to be very interesting and not cliché like some shows does. I admit that I do and probably will, but not to that full extent like I used to. As to your question, yes, Nefarius would have to destroy Primus…if he actually knew it existed. He has no clue about it. However, I plan on bringing that up soon in this story.
Rocker On: I'm going to answer each paragraph and review according to how they came in my own paragraphs.
Yeah, I tend to describe things repeatedly at times. Even when I reread the last chapter, I wasn't certain about leaving things as they were. But I guess it's because I think of it as being the perspective of another character like the part where Ben watches Aang go into the portal.
Yup. Sorry about that. But I hope you liked the reference to it.
My bad. I was talking about the recent one on Cartoonnetwork. So if Sonic X is as good as you said, then I'll probably give it a watch assuming if I can get to it.
You're right about the device in Wong Shi Tong's library. And while it is all of that, it didn't exactly take Nefarius all that far to another dimension. It's more of a restricted place in the Spirit World, which he acquired knowledge of when he went through the library's knowledge.
Lol now you know where he went.
Not really. I think it's because the heroes are usually patrolling the city or just have that type of luck. That and some bad guys are pretty dumb. I have no problem with the Flash gag.
The Powerpuff Girl form is something I would really want to get into. But I can't yet because of this arc I made.
About Primus, have you seen the one hour crossover of Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United? If so, there isn't much to explain about that obvious weakness of the Omnitrix since we're free to believe Primus has a cross-dimensional signal for the watch no matter where he is…or at least some certain places. I brought this up a long time ago in the Hero meets Teen Titans when Ben met the Bakugan Battle Brawlers. As for the alien combine thing, I won't get to that.
Yes, I have. I even thought of having him stop at the reboot Ben 10's world just to try and redeem that awful reboot of a great show. But I changed my mind when I realize I may have to create more chapters for it. I'm now fixed for him to meet alternate Gwen (The one with an Omnitrix). But I don't know if I will get to that yet.
That would be fun to do. But just because Ben may defeat Nefarius doesn't mean there won't be another big bad. Just read through the Hero meets Teen Titans, I actually left a hint of who can be his replacement. (Not saying he would be gone though)
Thanks for showing your holiday spirits. I really appreciate them.
Switch – On – 97: Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. So did what you thought came in this chapter? I look forward to know. Once again, thanks.
REVIEWS END
That's all for now, my readers. I'm sorry this wasn't as long as the other chapters. I was busy with exams, and now dealing with other things. But be rest assured, I'll have this arc finished so we can head to the next one in due time. I haven't gotten so much to the Kids Next Door after all.
Bye for now!
