Author's Note: Hello again, readers! Marie here with the next chapter, back in Isabelle's point of view! Hope you enjoyed our little trip into Edmund's mind, and I hope you like this chapter!
Chapter 15
It is finished, dear one.
With a deep breath and the taste of cinnamon in my mouth, I opened my eyes, staring at a group of familiar faces looking at me with concern—the Pevensies, I realized.
"Well, did we win?" I asked. Beaming, Edmund pulled me upwards and we all embraced, laughing all the while. Lucy took off with her cordial, healing the sick as I saw another familiar figure restoring the stone figures to life. "Is that…Aslan?" I asked, dumbfounded. Peter nodded, and I huffed. "Well I missed everything!" I sighed, making Edmund laugh.
"I don't think we could've done it without both Aslan and Ed here," Peter slapped him on the back.
"Well, I couldn't have done it without 'Belle." In answer to my confused look, he handed me my sword. "I broke her wand with that, just like you said.
Reverently, I took my sword, sliding it back into its sheath. "Everything seems to be falling into place," I noted, looking around at the Narnians returning
Susan smiled. "It really is."
After a few weeks of recovering and cleaning, Narnia began the preparations for the Pevensie's coronation. While the brothers and sisters were near fainting from nerves, I was practically beside myself. I'd never attended a coronation before, nor been giving the honour to be involved in one.
I felt the sun streaming into my window one morning, begging me to wake up. I complied, sitting up and holding my arms above my head to stretch.
"Lady Isabelle?" a soft voice asked.
I lazily opened my eyes, looking towards the Dryad girl that graciously offered to be my maid. "Yes, Galeine?" I murmured, running my fingers through my hair and stretching again.
"Lady Susan and Lady Lucy will be needing you soon. It is the day of their coronation."
My eyes popped open, fully awake. "It's Coronation Day!" I exclaimed, jumping out of bed and spinning the Dryad around, probably scaring her. "There's no time to waste, Galeine!" Running behind my dressing screen—and miraculously not tripping over anything in the process, I eagerly changed into my more formal gown, Galeine pulling some of my hair out of my face in two braids once I was dressed.
I chanced a glance in the mirror, marveling at how perfectly the red and gold dress I had been given fit me perfectly before rushing down the hall to Susan and Lucy's room, calling my thanks to Galeine as I went.
Knocking on their door once, I ran inside, doing my best to stay out of the other Dryad's way as they fixed the future Queen's hair. "Are you excited?" I asked the pair, looking outside the open window, watching creatures of all shapes and sizes flocking to the castle, mermaids jumped and splashed in the ocean below.
"I think I'm going to faint," whispered Susan as a royal blue cloak that complemented her silver gown was draped around her shoulders.
I shook my head at her nerves. "Think nothing of it, Susan. The people love all of you already, and this has been prophesied for ages now. No one's going to object; It's no sweat."
"Easy for you to say, you got your title in private," Lucy replied, smoothing her auburn cloak behind her and looking in the mirror, grinning upwards at the Dryad who had just finished her hair.
I smiled, remembering that day that seemed oh so long ago. "You got me there, Lu." After making sure that the there was not a single hair out of place on either of them, we stepped out of the room, meeting their brothers.
"Hullo, you three," Peter smiled, having donned a royal blue tunic with gold trousers and a shimmering cloak.
Edmund peered around his older brother's shoulder, wearing light blue and silver. "You all look lovely," he smiled.
"Thank you," we chorused, laughing lightly.
"Miss Isabelle!"
I turned, smiling at the Beavers and a Fawn walking with them, a rich emerald scarf around his neck. "Hello again!" I exclaimed, looking from the Beavers to the fawn. "Mister Tumnus?" I tried. There had encounters and conversations with so many people—well, creatures—over the past few weeks, all the names and faces were starting to blur together.
"Right," the fawn nodded, offering me his arm. "The crowns are this way."
Looking over my shoulder, I grinned at the Pevensies before they were rushed to some other place to wait for Aslan. "Is Lucy nervous?" Mister Tumnus asked, concerned.
I shrugged. "I think she's more excited than anything." We stopped right outside of the Throne Room doors while the Beavers fetched the crowns. "I can't wait to see them!" I confessed, trying to contain some of my excitement.
Tumnus just smiled, nodding at the Pevensies as they passed us by with the Lion; Susan and Lucy were on His right, Peter and Edmund on His left. As the sounds of trumpets being played by the Centaurs and Dwarves I had heard practicing the days before, the doors parted, and the five of them walked in, more Centaurs raising their blades for them to pass through.
Tumnus waited for the two Fawns that were holding the doors open to nod before giving me his arm again. I nodded in thanks and let the Beavers walk before us; Missus Beaver carrying the girls' crowns, Mister Beaver the boys'. Once we reached the stairs, Tumnus and I parted, and I walked with Mister Beaver to Aslan's left, waiting quietly for Him to speak to the countless Narnians who had gathered for this moment.
"To the glistening Eastern Sea, I give you Queen Lucy, the Valiant." Tumnus stepped forward picking up Lucy's crown, which was sliver and looked like it was made of leaves and flowers. Lucy's eyes lit up, and she lowered her head, allowing Tumnus to place it there; the girl grinned at him in return once she lifted her head again. Tumnus smiled back, bowing his head to her and returning to Missus Beaver's side.
"To the great Western Woods: King Edmund, the Just." That was my cue to give Ed his silver crown. As I approached him, he knelt, bowing his head as he was supposed to do. I placed the crown on his head, and he rose, smiling softly at me. Just as Tumnus had done before, I bowed my head in respect, then returned to where I had come from.
"To the radiant Southern Sun: Queen Susan, the Gentle." Susan's crown looked like Lucy's, but was made of golden flowers instead of silver. She also smiled at Tumnus in thanks, looking to her subjects with kindness and smiling at her siblings.
"And to the clear Northern Sky, I give you King Peter, the Magnificent." When Peter rose, his golden crown on his head, Tumnus walked to me as I curtsied and he bowed, Mister and Missus Beaver following suit.
As the new Kings and Queens of Narnia sat down on their thrones, Aslan turned to address them again. "Once a King or Queen of
Narnia, always a King or Queen," He said softly, looking at each of them in turn. "May your wisdom grace us until the stars rain down from the Heavens."
The Lion turned to face the people again, leading us in the cry: "Long live King Peter! Long live Queen Susan! Long live King Edmund! Long live Queen Lucy!" we all cheered, some people throwing hats into the air.
They had done it. The Prophesy had been fulfilled.
A/N: And there you have it; the Pevensies are crowned! This could be the second-to-last chapter of the story (for now); however, I was thinking about possibly incorporating some other various adventures, including The Horse and His Boy, since it is during the Golden Age of Narnia. Let me know what you think! Until next time!
