Shakey POV
Tommy looked at me and smiled again, and said, "It was you or him, so be happy you get to keep your head for a while longer, but don't think we won't send somebody for your brothers,"
I still looked distgustingly at the dead body that had just been freshly killed. Tommy walked out towards the door of this basement and called for someone. Jose quickly followed behind them. I heard Tommy tell someone, "Get Tasha to clean the mess," and I heard his footsteps as he walked away.
The light was still on, allowing me to better take in my surroundings. There were concrete walls, flooring, and ceiling, the wooden desk Jose nearly destroyed a while ago, liquid leaking from cracks in the sealing, a single light hung from over my head, containing an incandescent lightbulb filled halfway with dirt, and what looked to be the remains of furniture and other items sprawled about. I saw an old box spring mattress and a broken bedframe as well as boxes of cigarets and poker chips. The scene looked fresh out of a horror movie. And I am the star of the show.
The door had been shut by someone almost as soon as the two lunatics left the room, and I could easily hear outside which meant it would be hard to escape and sneak out since they could hear me so easily, and it didn't help that any tiny sound echoed through the room because of the concrete walls. Just a second later, I saw the door knob turn, and in walked a short almost red coated wolf. She walked in with a broom, towels, bags, and rope. She walked towards me not saying a word and avoided eye contact. She was fairly attractive and had some good cleavage, but was so dirty that it looked like she was just as dead as the body laying in front of her.
She bent down and took one of the bags with her gloved hands and struggled slightly to lift the body as she placed the bag around the shoulders of the body then tied the rope around it, so the blood stopped flowing out at such a constant rate. Now it just dribbled ever so slightly out of the bag. I watched her closely, and I think she knew I was watching but chose to ignore me. She then walked towards the door and called for some people to take the body away. Two folks walked in behind her, and as she went to get her stuff she left next to the body, the other two people lifted the body and carried it out of the room and closed the door behind them. As she began sweeping the floor of small chunks of muscle and brain mass, there was a split second our eyes met, but she was quick to look away. Her eyes were gorgeous; orange like fire, but gentle like water flowing briskly down a creek bed.
What am I thinking? I have a girlfriend why do I find her attractive? I guess it's just because it's hard to not get horny when a cute girl is bending over in front of me. But just as I was begging to get comfortable with the awkward silence, my phone rang. And it wasn't on silent either.
She looked up at me, and didn't seem alarmed, her hair parting to the side of her face so I could see both her eyes shining next to her red hair. She looked into my eyes, and I really tried hard to look away but couldn't. Just then, two burly looking men burst into the room just as my phone rang for the last time.
"What's going on?!" One of them asked.
"We heard a phone!" The other said.
The girl turn away from me and spoke to them harshly, "Calm down you two I got a call from my boyfriend now go back outside before I make you eat this dead guy's brains!"
The girl has a cute voice, not too high pitched and certainly not too low. It didn't sound extremely girly or masculine, just like the sound of an angel.
The two guys looked at each other, then backed out of the room and closed the door behind them. She continued to look in that direction until she heard the door click closed then she turned to me and laid down the broom and sat right in front of me. I was a bit intimidated until she spoke.
"I'm Tasha," she said.
"Shakey." I paused, she looked at me like I should continue so I did, "Why did you do that?"
"Because I hate looking at guts on the floor, also you need to whisper; they can hear outside, and I'm not allowed to talk to you." She spoke softly.
"Oh Ok," I whispered.
She stood up and started sweeping the remains into the open bag on the floor. My heart was in my chest beating fast. It was like the first time I felt a special moment with Janice. Janice. Why doesn't the thought of her make me feel ashamed of being attracted to the girl in front of me! I have a girlfriend! She must have noticed the look on my face because she sat back down in front of me after tying together the bag and tossing it to the side.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing," I responded, " Just...thinking of someone special to me."
"Oh," she said. "Who is it?"
Just then the was a loud knocking on the door, followed by a man's voice.
"Hey Tasha you almost done in there?"
"Just a minute ya bozo!"
I chuckled slightly at her goofy retort. She looked back and smiled too.
"Well I gotta go. I'll see you tonight when I bring you your food. Tommy told me I am in charge of your food from now on,"
"Ok," I hesitated, "See you later,"
With that she picked up her bag and broom and spread the towels on the floor over the blood. She walked away to the door, but turn around to wave at me before turning the door and disappearing into another room, shutting the door behind her.
What's wrong with me? I keep thinking of her as a girl of my dreams, but I already have one. Janice is all I need. Why is this so difficult? My heart is being squeezed and pulled, my mind thinking of what to do. But soon I felt drowsy, and thought I'd figure it out later. Maybe she can help with this anyway.
Every day a new bell sounds. It rings from the church, through the deserted town, past the desert, through the valley, and over the snowy mountains. It travels for miles and miles, finding me, and pulling me home. I trudged through the snowy mountains, up and down the valleys, crawled through the desert sand, and past through the lonely town. I walked up the steps of the church, and heard the bell ringing. I pondered for a moment, and turned my back and began to walk away. I do this every day; I've done it for years. I venture through the lands to come here, just to return all the way back to where I started before. The bell will call again tomorrow; and maybe tomorrow I'll stay, but as I began walking away, I felt something within me. It said that today is the day. Tomorrow is too late, trust yourself, save yourself now. I quickly turned around and ran towards the church again, rounding the corner to the church's walkway, I ran past the dead roses and violets and tulips. I arrived at the closed old oak doors of the church and violently threw them open. A wind breezed through the air and past by me pushing me back a little. I removed my hands from my covered eyes and gazed upon the pews. The rows and rows left empty, the shrine on the alter broken, and the cross on the wall fallen. I walked half way down the center aisle and stopped. I fell harshly to my knees, covered my eyes again with my hands and wept. Wept for the past I threw behind me, for the future I'll never have. And why? Was I too late? I heard a voice in my head telling me that I was not too late, and I was just on time. Slowly, I stood up, wiping the tears from my eyes and sweat from my brow. I walked to the fallen cross and placed it back on the wall. I fixed up the shrine and alter, and then looked at the pews. I felt that my work was done, so I sat down in the front row and began to fall asleep I smiled one last smile, the last thing I ever did, and slowly drifted into sleep, letting my mind shut down, never to start up again, and I realized it was never too late to start my life.
