A/N: Hello, there! I'm back! Bet you thought this story just vanished, huh? Sorry about that, simple, cruel writer's block. I was just stuck. Had to leave the story alone for a while (okay, a really long while *awkwardly clears throat*)
But thank you so much for sticking with this and for the encouraging reviews. But I'm back so let's finish this, yeah? I've kept you waiting long enough! :)
*Now there will be an epilogue after this that I am working on (I promise it won't take a year lol!)
Now enough talking let's see what happens! :)
David's fingers gently and absently combed through Rose's soft blond hair as they laid on the couch together, their legs intertwined with a blanket over them, watching some romance comedy on T.V eating Chinese takeaway. Another dinner reservation forgotten but David was fine with that. He could honestly see himself doing this all the time with her.
"I kind of feel bad for him." Rose's voice chimed breaking into his thoughts.
David frowned taking a bite of food.
"But isn't he the conceited one?" He asked.
She shrugged.
"Yeah but don't conceited people deserve love," Rose asked. She ate some noodles. "I mean the only reason he's a bad guy because he's an arse." She reasoned.
David smirked.
"I suppose so," He took another bite of rice. After a few minutes of watching this daft film he frowned. He looked at Rose. "How did we end up watching this again?" David asked.
Rose shrugged her shoulder.
"Don't know," She replied setting her carton down. She sighed leaning back against him cuddling closer. "I thought you were just going to check the weather." Rose said.
David blushed.
"Oh, right," He glanced at her apologetically. "Sorry." David said.
She stuck her tongue between her teeth and grinned.
"It's okay," Rose replied. "I like this a million times better!" She smiled.
David just grinned.
"Yeah, fancy food we can't pronounce is overrated, anyway," He lightly joked taking her hand.
Rose glanced at him.
"But you do seem distracted." She noticed.
He smirked. It was true he had a lot on his mind. His growing relationship with Rose, the ring...New York.
"Still easy to read, huh?" He said softly.
Rose turned off the set and sat up looking at him.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
David leaned forward clasping his hands trying to find the right words. Something clever or convincing but he couldn't.
Finally, he sighed.
"I'm not thrilled about New York," He admitted. David glanced at her. "In fact, I really wish you wouldn't go." He said honestly.
Rose just nodded.
"I see." She replied.
David then scoffed. "And you know what? I'm a bastard," He remarked standing up. "A hypocritical bastard!" He declared frustrated more at himself.
She looked at him confused.
He shook his head.
"I mean this is your dream and I want you to have it. God knows you put up with mine," David looked at her and shrugged. "I guess I'm scared." He said honestly.
Rose frowned standing up. She came closer meeting his eyes.
"Why?" She asked.
He smirked sadly.
"Rose, look at me, I'm an overworked twenty something year-old doctor. I can't even remember the last time I went on vacation. I don't have much and everything I do have I'm saving for Amy's future," He shook his head. "I can't compete with those New York rich blokes."
She caressed the side of his face.
"David, you're my dream," Rose said firmly but lovingly. "Writing, fame, the traveling's nice but nothing could ever compare to you." She told him sincerely.
He smiled and kissed her knuckles.
"You are something, you know that?" David said.
Rose giggled nuzzling his neck.
"I believe you said the same thing last night." She softly whispered pressing a kiss to his neck.
David blushed and smirked.
She glanced up at him.
"If you want I won't go." Rose said.
He smiled squeezing her hand.
"Rose, I want you to go. You've always been a free spirit," He said. "That's one of the things that I love about you. And I'll never stop you from doing what you love." David said sincerely.
Rose smiled then briefly glanced down, a question burning in her mind. She looked at him with those amazing caramel eyes.
"You do believe that I'll come back… right?" She asked.
He didn't even have to think about it.
"Yes." David replied without hesitation. And he did. He truly did, he realized. Rose would always come back to him. David then realized how stupid he had been. He then reached into his pocket. It was time.
David took her hand.
"Rose, remember when I said I had a promise ring for you that night you left?" He asked.
Rose sighed heavily.
"David, I thought that was behind us." She said.
He shook his head.
"It is," David quickly replied. "It's just…" He smiled slightly as he opened the velvet box revealing star shaped blue topaz stone. "I kept it. For you." He told her.
Rose gasped. Her eyes widen nearly tearing. It was unexpected and wonderful!
"David! It's gorgeous!" She exclaimed.
He grinned.
"You like it?" He said.
She could barely speak. She was so happy.
"I love it," She said. Then she looked at him thoughtfully. "Wait. You kept this? All these years?" Rose asked.
David nodded.
"I was never sure why," He admitted. He then smiled thoughtfully at her. "Maybe, it was my heart telling me you would come back to me to one day." David said.
Rose just beamed. She couldn't stop smiling.
David then swallowed. It was time for the second part.
"But it's not just a promise ring," He added. "Not anymore." David said.
Rose just looked at him. She could feel her heart pounding. Oh, god was he about to say what she hoped he was going to say?
David took a deep breath.
"Rose, would you marry me?" He asked.
Rose couldn't believe it! It was like all those years of tears and pain never existed. Like it had just been washed away.
David looked at her slightly concerned when she didn't answer.
"Um, Rose…no rush but I'm getting a little concerned." He said.
Instead of answering Rose just happily lunged at him hugging him, nearly knocking him backwards.
He chuckled.
"Okay, I guess that's a yes." David said hugging her back.
"Of course, it is, you, daft wonderful man!" Rose said happily in his ear.
David just smiled.
Rose slowly pulled back slightly embarrassed by her reaction.
Rose blushed.
"Sorry," She apologized. "I'm just happy."
He just grinned.
"Me too," David said. He held up the ring. "You want the ring on, now?" He smirked.
Rose grinned and nodded.
He carefully placed the ring on her finger. It fit perfectly. Rose gazed at it. The most beautiful ring ever!
"It's perfect!" She said.
David smiled.
"I'm glad you like it." He said.
She shook her head smiling coy at him.
"I meant this," Rose pulled him closer to kiss him. "Mr. Pond."
David grinned.
"Oh, of, course, Mrs. Pond." He replied against her lips before kissing her. His fingers gently touching the stone, a ring that once represented a promise of teen love now inadvertently represented a new life together, a new promise of forever.
And for Rose and David it was worth the wait!
A/N: Quick note: Made a mistake it is Pond not Smith, my bad but I fixed it. Thank you to the guest review who pointed it out to me, much appreciated! :)
