Chapter Fifty

"How's she doing?"

Johnny looked over his shoulder to see Jason and Elizabeth standing in the doorway. "Drake said she'll be okay, but they transfused several units. He said she'd be unconscious until tomorrow." He waved them in. "Where are the boys?"

Checking in the monitors out of habit, Elizabeth fussed with the IV solution before making herself sit in the chair. "Monica's keeping them entertained in her office for a bit. I didn't think seeing Sarah like this was the best idea after what they went through today."

"Let's step outside for a minute. Elizabeth will stay with Sarah." At his mulish expression Jason sighed. He could sympathize, but they needed to discuss things. "C'mon, Johnny. I need to talk to you."

"Go. Sarah isn't going to wake up for a while," Elizabeth urged her friend.

Frustrated at being pulled away from his wife when she needed him, he finally gave in. As soon as the door closed behind them he stopped. No way was he going too far, just in case. "Tell me you've heard something."

"I sent Francis to question the guy Jimmy and Marco managed to detain. Cody's going to stay here overnight. On Sarah's door." It might be unnecessary but the extra precaution guaranteed their safety. No way in hell was Johnny focused enough to not have backup. But Jason knew as soon as they had a lead to go on he'd snap back. Vengeance was a powerful motivator.

"Lizbits get checked out?"

Jason smirked. "After trying to get out of it, but yeah. They're both doing great."

"How is Bay? Zacchara needs to have Georgie checked over to."

"Bay's shoulder was dislocated and her ulnar has a small break. Hunter is treating her sugar right now. John will make sure Georgie gets looked at. Thanks for letting us stay at the house. Jake already asked to stay somewhere else tonight."

Anger flared in Johnny's eyes. "Targeting women is bad enough, but Cam, Jake, and Baylor should never have been put in that situation, Jason. Only a spineless bastard orders what happened today!"

"And now they're dead, they just don't realize it yet," Jason stated flatly. "But right now you focus on Sarah. Let us worry about finding the asshole that was stupid enough to order an attack on our family."

"At least the guys took one alive so we'll learn who the intended target was. With everything exploding in Georgie's life and the enemies we all have had it would be impossible to decipher otherwise."

"Georgie wasn't even there."

"But Bay was. That little girl is the key to getting Georgie to cooperate. There isn't anything she wouldn't do for her." He paused and shook his head. "Zacchara's going to have his hands full with Diego. The little fucker's been obsessed with Georgie for years."

Jason felt for the younger man. Lucky had been a major pain in the ass, but at Elizabeth hadn't shared a child with him. He could only imagine the connection would be ten times more difficult to sever. "He fucks around too much and John will kill him. He already wants to now."

Johnny peered through the openings of the blinds. "I need to get back inside. But I wanna hear whatever the piece of shit says after Francis questions him. Tell Francis to stop over or call me."

Recognizing how anxious he was to get back to Sarah's bedside Jason nodded. "He already knows. I'll be back in the morning. We need to get the kids settled in. Call if you need us or anything changes."

Elizabeth squeezed her sister's hand and whispered she loved her before embracing Johnny after they returned. She didn't want to leave but knew she had to. Nothing she could do would help her sister heal faster. "Promise you'll call if she wakes up. I don't care what time it might be, OB."

"Of course." He gently unwound her arms from around him. "Go to my house and get some rest. We don't need you getting sick on top of everything else."

Retaking his place beside the bed after Jason finally dragged Elizabeth out of the room, Johnny sighed heavily before leaning over and pressing his lips to Sarah's forehead. "Drake thinks you won't wake until tomorrow, but I have personal experience with how stubborn tend to be. This is one of those times your bullheadedness would really pay off. Please wake up, Sarah. Lizzie and Georgie are worried sick about you and I need to see your beautiful smile, baby."

OoOoOoOoOoOo

It was late when Dr. Hunter discharged Baylor from GH. Once at the penthouse Johnny hung back a bit, letting Georgie and Baylor explore their temporary home. Some of their belongings had been delivered while they were at the hospital. He wanted both of them comfortable for however long they needed to stay for the addition security the penthouse provided. Watching mother and daughter it didn't escape his notice the little girl kept peeking over at him with an expression he had no problem interpreting. He could also sense Georgie pulling into her protective shell. Dr. Lee had given her a clean bill of health after today's events. Johnny didn't doubt his wife was trying to prepare herself for the conversation to come after little ears were asleep.

Listening intently for the sounds of them moving around after Baylor's bath Johnny was waiting in the hallway when they left the bathroom. "Why don't you go soak in the whirlpool in our bathroom, Georgie. I'll put the munchkin to bed."

Fatigue hitting hard, Georgie smiled in thanks before bending down to hug her baby girl. "Night, Bay. Love you."

"Loves you toos, Momma."

Johnny sat in the rocking chair then picked Baylor up when she held out her arms. He smoothed a hand down her back as she snuggled into his chest. "Sleepy, baby?"

"Uh huh." Her tiny fingers fisted the material of his shirt.

"Do you want a story or to tell me what's wrong?"

"I don'ts want you to leaves," she whispered between sniffles.

"Baylor, I promise I'm not leaving you or your mom. Don't cry, baby." He rubbed her trembling back. "Can you tell me why you keep thinking I'm gonna leave you guys?" Although he had a suspicion.

"My others Daddy said yous had to go far away soon. Him said yous aren't my daddy, him is, and that's you gots to leave cause I could only have ones," she admitted sadly. "Todays him took momma, made her cries. Whys he hurt mommy? Nice daddies should loves momma."

Diego deserved to burn in hell. What kind of man terrified their own child?! Digging down deep for control Johnny kept his voice low. "Oh sweetie, he's wrong. Yes, he is your dad. He was your dad before you were even born, Bay. And while Diego is your first dad, you are still my little girl too. I love you so much. You and your mother. Remember when mommy explained about us getting married? Well that makes you my little girl too. I'm never going to walk away, ever. Your other dad loves you too but it's not up to him if I'm your dad. Only one person can say I'm not your father too, Baylor. And that person is you. Do you want me to be your dad?"

Tears poured down her cheeks as she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Yes! I loves you!"

"I love you too, Bay. Nothing anyone says will ever change that," he promised his voice thick with emotion.

"Him scary. Hurt momma."

Wishing Georgie could hear how terrified Baylor was of Diego, Johnny closed his eyes. He was conflicted and knew he had to tread carefully. On one hand Baylor being scared of Diego would have her keeping a safe distance from the man in the future. But on the other hand if Diego got help and started acting rationally there might come a time where a relationship between father and daughter might possibly exist. "Right now he's confused and making bad choices. I need you to promise not to go to him unless your mommy or I say it's okay. Can you do that for me, sweetie?"

Nose crinkling, she solemnly nodded. "I no wanna sees him. He lieds."

"Lied about what?" Baylor never had fully told them what Diego said to her the night he snuck in the house. On multiple occasions Georgie tried to coax the conversation from her, but Baylor refused to share, saying it was a secret.

Her eyes dropped. "Said you was mean and pretwendings to loves me. Him said he loved momma but she stayed with yous cause you made her. But him mades her sad today. She cried. I don't likes it when momma cries. She used to cries a lot at night after I's in bed."

Anger and sadness knotted his stomach at the innocently spoken words. When she yawned before rubbing at her eyes Johnny gently guided her head until she rested against his chest, knowing his heartbeat would help lull her off to dreamland. "It's late. You need to get some sleep. Your mommy and I will be right down the hall if need us or have a bad dream."

"No leaves, pwomise?"

"I promise."

"Aunt Sarah's really gonna be oktays?"

"She will. OB called earlier and said the doctor thinks she will wake up tomorrow. When she does I'll take you to see her, okay."

A lopsided smile greeted his promise. "For now it's sleepy time, little missy. Sweet dreams, Bay."

Her eyes fluttered before growing too heavy to keep open. Giving in to tiredness plaguing her she murmured before dozing off, "Nite daddy."

Johnny's heart melted on the spot. Until that moment he hadn't realized how much he wanted Baylor to think of him as her father. Genetics meant absolutely nothing in the long run. Growing up a Zacchara pretty much dashed any expectations of ever finding love, or even caring about someone else enough to be willing to lay down his life for theirs. Finding Georgie, gaining an amazing daughter in Baylor, and now expecting another child saved him from a life filled with nothingness. Protecting his family, ensuring their happiness now came first. Gently placing the slumbering child on the bed before easing the covers up he prayed the conversation with Georgie went as smoothly. Straightening back up he released a long breath, doubting his wife would see things his way as easily.

OoOoOoOoOoOo

"If you don't stop pacing I'm going to tie you to the chair."

"Really? Threatening me with that? Hmm, you might want to think of something else to get your point across," she responded cheekily before continuing to walk the length of the room and back.

"Brat!" Jason tugged her onto his lap when she started to pass by his chair again. "Wearing a path in her carpet is not the way to show Sarah how much you care. All you are doing is making me nervous by constantly moving around."

"I should go back and sit with Johnny."

"Absolutely not! Elizabeth, Kelly said you need to take it easy. Johnny knows we're only a phone call away if anything changes. Besides, Sarah would kick your ass when she got out of the hospital if you even tried it."

She hated he was right. Her being at GH wouldn't speed up her sister's recovery time. "I feel horrible she's hurt."

"We all do," he murmured, his head resting on her shoulder. "But one thing I've learned over the years is that you Webber girls are stubborn. And Sarah keeps O'Brien in line so I know she's strong. Please try and relax some."

Elizabeth groaned. "I hate how you always make sense."

"Can't help it. It's part of my charm." Jason pushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear before turning serious. "The guy that kicked in Cam's door, did he say anything before starting to shoot?"

"Um, not that I remember. But it all happened so quickly. One minute Sarah and I were talking downstairs while the kids played upstairs. We stopped when Marco raised his voice. As soon as he yelled it clicked something was really wrong so we ran upstairs, grabbed the kids, and went into the safe room."

Jason cupped her cheek. The wavering of her voice only fueled his determination to find whoever ordered the attack and increased the pain he planned on inflicting. "I know this is hard, but could you tell if the gunman was aiming for anyone specifically?"

Shuddering, her brows furrowed as she concentrated on those horrifying seconds. "I'm not sure if he was truly aiming at them or just randomly shooting, but Sarah had just got inside the panic room. Bay was in her arms. Cam and Jake were huddled behind me on the other side of the room."

"Did any of the bullets come close to you and the boys?" he prompted.

"Uh, no. The steel door was sliding shut though."

Jason pinched his nose. Either Sarah or Bay were the intended targets, and someone specifically going after Sarah was a long shot, or Elizabeth and the boys were. Until Francis questioned their guest it was impossible to guess. So far the people after Bay wanted her alive. All her connections were of no use if she died in the process of retrieving her. With Elizabeth not being harmed Jason suspected the invasion could have been an attempt at kidnapping her or the boys. The number of threats against his family decreased with each person he eliminated. However Nik, Helena, and Jerry still freely roamed around Port Charles. Frustration climbing he grunted. Hell, any of the other organizations might have seen grabbing everyone in the room as a way to cripple Morgan/Zacchara.

"Jason."

"Hmm?"

"Can you tell me what happened between Georgie and Diego? She looked a millon miles away when you guys arrived at GH."

"Georgie is better equipped to answer that particular question." At her confused expression he shrugged. "We didn't ask and she didn't volunteer any information. John will talk to her when they are alone."

Elizabeth frowned. Her friend was stuck in a tough situation. More importantly, she feared the strain this could place on the newly married couple. Their relationship was far from normal before Diego reappeared. "Do you think we made a mistake?"

Pinching his nose again Jason exhaled heavily. He'd asked himself the same exact question on a couple different occasions. "Honestly, no. I don't think Georgie or Baylor could've survived much longer on their own. And if she'd stayed in Ireland she would never have crossed paths with John again."

"She saw Sarah this morning. As a patient."

"Yeah, and now Diego knows she's pregnant too. Let's just say his response is worrisome."

"You think he'd hurt her?"

"Don't act so surprised, Elizabeth. Who knows how being held prisoner screwed with his mind. O'Brien was right. Diego's obsessed."

"John's going to need to find some patience. Not his strong suit, I know, but she's going to struggle emotionally."

"Don't get involved," he warned while playing with a strand of her hair absentmindedly. "Let them work thing out between them. All you can be is a sounding board if she needs it."

"Wow! Who knew being smart could be so sexy?"

"Smartass," he chuckled.

"What can I say? It's a gift of mine."

Jason grinned at the sassiness. "Are you trying to distract me or yourself?"

A devilish gleam sparkled in her dark blue eyes as she shifted so she straddled his lap. Her arms slid around his neck. "Mmm. A distraction might be just what the doctor ordered. For both of us."

Jason's eyes darkened with desire before he placed a large hand on her back, easing her closer. "Excellent idea. Such a smart suggestion deserves a reward," he murmured before sucking the lobe of her ear between his teeth, grazing the tender flesh before sucking harder when she shivered.

Increased hormones really were a thing of beauty. Her neck tingled as he placed open mouth kisses along her heated skin. Elizabeth slipped her hands under them hem of his shirt, quickly removing it before letting her palms glide over the hard muscled chest hidden beneath. She loved his sculpted chest, especially his mouthwatering abs. "Hmm," she wet her lips with the tip of her tongue. The feel of his cock twitching against her inner thigh elicited a moan of appreciation. "Jason."

Gripping her hips when he felt her fingers undoing the button of his jeans Jason smirked. "We got all night, baby. Slow down."

"Uh uh, now!" she demanded while grinding her lower body to his. "We can do slow later."

Starting to protest he opened his mouth only to groan loudly as her fingers curled around his dick as she freed him from his jeans. Her soft hand pumped him a couple times, causing his hips to buck. Jason attempted to kick his pants the rest of the way down but was stopped when Elizabeth impatiently moved her panties to the side and impaled herself on to his aching shaft with a cry of pleasure.

"Oh, fuck! So good, baby, you feel so good," he breathed harshly as her tight heat surrounded him.

God she loved the way he filled her body! Leaning back Elizabeth braced her hands on his thighs while eagerly meeting the now escalating thrusts of his body. She bit her lower lip to keep from screaming as he pounded into her, hitting her sweet spot with every stroke.

Wanting to view all her luscious body Jason tore her shirt open, sending buttons scattering all over the floor but not caring. His arms wound around her waist, holding her trembling body steady, his head dipped, capturing a turgid nipple and sucking it deep inside his mouth.

Gasping at the unexpected sensations rocketing throughout her, Elizabeth's panting increased, moans filling the room. She cried out when he suddenly stood, wrapping her long legs around him. "JASON! More! Don't stop!"

Jeans falling down, he stepped out of them, positioning Elizabeth so her back was braced against the wall. Using the added support to his advantage he surged as deep as her body would allow, burying himself inside her slick core. He gritted his teeth as he felt her starting the spiral into bliss. "I'm not gonna last long, not like this. Come for me, Elizabeth!"

Heat pooled in her belly. Unable to meet his thrusts in this position she scored her nails along the back of his shoulders. When the first wave of ecstasy exploded she shattered, head falling into the curve of his neck and shoulder and sank her teeth into his sweaty muscles to muffle her shout.

Pulling almost out of her Jason then thrust into her contracting warmth before spurting his seed while buried deep inside her. Feeling her trembling as they both tried to catch their breath he stayed still to give his weakened legs time to regain strength. "I got to say I really enjoy your idea of a distraction."

"Good because there's more where that came from," Elizabeth whispered silkily before tugging his head closer and passionately kissing him.

Jason mentally smirked. Seems the second trimester should live up to all the hype he'd heard.

OoOoOoOoOoOo

Gracefully entering the study Helena wrinkled her nose. Large shards of glass littered the floor near the unlit fireplace. The smell of liquor overwhelmed the senses but didn't quite mask the stench of failure radiating off her intoxicated grandson.

Flicking her hands toward the mess she clucked her tongue. "Really, Nikolas. Was the lack of restraint necessary?"

"Leave!" he ground out.

"Your little display of arrogance lacked thorough planning, dear. Sometimes I fear the genes from your mother ruined all chance of the Cassadine traits rising to dominance."

"How did you know?" he demanded.

Her lips twisted in distaste as she met his bloodshot eyes. "You possess no discipline, Nikolas. Such a disappointment. Never employ substandard staff. The uneducated brutes tend to fail at assigned missions."

Nik scrubbed his hands over his face in aggravation. "Leave me! A lecture from you is laughable. You never intended for me to have Elizabeth so I decided to take matters into my own hands."

"And failed miserably," Helena taunted cruelly, taking pleasure in driving the knife deeper.

"Go to hell!" drinking deeply from the bottle of vodka he glowered at the old bat. "If Jerry was capable of obtaining the damn brat you wouldn't still be here, would you. Looks like you're in the same boat as I am, Grandmother."

Helena inclined her head. "Simply a waste of potential. Your father would hang his head in shame. Drinking and pouting accomplish nothing. Sober up, my dear."

"Fuck off!" he roared before flinging the empty bottle in her direction.

Lips thinly compressed Helena arched a brow. "You forget the past. I beseeched you to see the wisdom of pursuing the Webber girl years ago. Repeatedly ignoring my counsel, you let numerous opportunities to further strengthen our bloodline pass by. Now I've chosen a different path to take back the power we never should have lost. I cannot allow your stupidity to stand in the way this time."

Nik snorted. "Jerry will never lay a hand on Georgie or Baylor. Give it your best shot. But I will have Elizabeth. If you get in my way I'll make your life hell."

"And you, my dear grandson, are a risk I'm unwilling to accept anymore," she responded evenly before nodding.

Jerry stepped from the shadows and snapped Nikolas's neck before the drunken prince realized what was going on. Letting his drop with a loud thunk on the desk he stared at the most evil person he'd ever encountered. "Where do you want me to dump the body?"

"For now it is best if no one learns of Nikolas's untimely death. Place with Natasha's worthless daughter in the tunnels."

Jerry motioned the two waiting men forward to help carry the body.

"By the way, Mr. Jacks, I expect progress on your end of the bargain soon or you will be joining my unfortunate grandchildren in the tunnels." Not waiting for a response Helena regally left the room.

Waiting until the older woman disappeared from view Jerry shivered. Finding a weakness in Zacchara's security moved to priority number one. He had no intention of dying at that psychotic bitch's hands.

OoOoOoOoOoOo

Georgie pulled on a pair of sleep pants and matching t-shirt before absently pulling her hair into a loose ponytail. As fatigued as she felt she knew Johnny wasn't going to let the events of the day slid. Delaying dealing with him wasn't helping calm the uneven pitch in her stomach either. She squared her shoulders and took a deep breath before entering the bedroom. Sure enough he was waiting, his eyes closed as he lay on his back on the bed.

Feeling her watching him Johnny slowly opened his eyes, assessing her. Beautiful didn't even come close to describing the woman warily watching him. However his attention zeroed in on the light smudges just below her ears on her neck. He hadn't noticed the marks earlier due to her hair covering them. He bet she hadn't thought to leave her hair down with so much already on her mind. Johnny held out a hand then guided her until she sat beside him on the bed. "Tired?"

"I'm okay."

"Feel like talking?"

"You're willing to wait?"

He chuckled at her surprise. "Don't look so shocked. If you're too tired I can wait until morning."

"It's sweet of you to offer, Johnny, but putting it off will only make it so I can't sleep."

"Okay, but if you get too tired I want you to say so. Making yourself sick won't help either." Johnny slid back until his back rested against the headboard then gathered Georgie in his arms, her back leaning on his chest as his arms circled around her middle. He had a hunch she'd be more at ease with him not studying her face the entire time they talked. When she relaxed, some of the tension draining from her posture, he knew it had been a smart move.

"Where do you want to start?"

"With telling you I love you."

Georgie intertwined their fingers. "I love you too, Johnny. Don't doubt that."

"I don't." He paused, debating on how to bring up the first thing he wanted to. "Do you trust my judgment?"

Unsure where he was heading with the question Georgie squeezed his hand. "Yeah."

"Good. Baylor finally told me some of what Diego said to her the first time he saw her." He felt her stiffen. "She believed I was going to abandon both of you because Diego told her I would be around long. He also told the beautiful little girl asleep in the other room that I didn't care about her and that she couldn't consider me another father figure."

"What? How could he! What the hell was he thinking!" she angrily spat.

Keeping her still when she tried to get up, he rested his chin on top of shoulder. "He knew exactly what he was doing, Georgie. Baylor cried in my arms tonight, terrified I was going to walk away from her. After she exhausted herself I told her the truth. Nothing could ever make me walk away from her because she's my daughter in every way that matters."

"What did she say?" she managed to ask in a strangled whisper. The fact Diego could be so cruel to his own flesh and blood stunned her. "Why would he hurt Bay like that, Johnny?"

"I don't know if he thought of it like that. Honestly I believe he wanted to create distance between Bay and me, probably make it she didn't trust me. You said it yourself, he views you two as possessions. But he hurt her emotionally, Georgie."

"Did Bay believe you when you promised you were staying?"

"Yes. Then she called me daddy," he admitted, awe clearly in his voice.

Georgie whirled around, throwing her arms around him as she grinned. "Oh, Johnny, that's wonderful! I wondered why she used your name when you can see how much she adores you whenever you're in the same room."

Framing her face in his hands Johnny waited until she looked him directly in the eyes. "Unless he gets some help, mental help, Diego is not to go anywhere near Baylor. No," he continued when her lips parted. "She's scared of him, Georgie. He pulled a gun in front of her, forced you to leave her behind, and now I learn he's been feeding her a bunch of bullshit. Even with guards it's not a risk I'm willing to take."

"But…"

"Stop! Don't defend him! I don't give a damn what he's been through, Georgie! There is no excuse for purposely hurting Baylor. Are you willing to risk her safety or emotional health when he's clearly unstable at best?"

Guilt flooded through her but the need to protect her child trumped any compassion for Diego. "You're right," she agreed. "He's going to go nuts when he can't see her but I can't risk him hurting Bay."

Johnny caressed the discolored splotches shaped like fingers marring her neck. He watched as Georgie's eyes widened as she realized what he was doing. But it was the shame he read that really caught his attention. "You lied to me," he accused softly.

"What? It's not as bad as you think," she hurriedly protested. "I bruise easily."

"I don't think so. What I do know is you immediately offered an explanation. Want to look me in the eye and tell me again that he didn't hurt you when you two were together, Georgie? These violent mood swings aren't new, are they? I suspected from the beginning things weren't as you said but today I knew I was correct. When you didn't even give Logan and Milo a chance to contain the situation in the park you gave it away. Otherwise you wouldn't have jumped to the conclusion Diego would hurt his biological child."

Georgie sucked in a shaky breath, her heart racing as he waited on her to confirm or deny his accusation.
