Chapter 17: No Return

Mya's P.O.V

The trip towards the Jolly Roger was short, but seemed to take ages.

I watched as the island of Neverland grew smaller and smaller the further we went from it. But not far enough.

Once we ascended onto the ship, my father ordered the men to start working, we had to leave as soon as possible.

I however had job to complete, so I folded my arms across the border of the ship and leaned my head on them. I wondered if I would miss Neverland. Or a certain someone here...

No.

I shook my head.

Which would have been incredibly awkward if anyone was watching me.

I couldn't stand even thinking about him. He had toyed with me since the moment I arrived. It had to stop. And me thinking about him every five seconds wasn't going to help that.

"The ship's ready captain." Smee's voice brought me back to reality.

"Then let's get going."

"Not so fast." A voice that came from behind us said. A voice I couldn't forget. A voice that haunted my dreams at night. Not that I've had much sleep lately. "You weren't leaving without saying goodbye, were you?" I turned around to see Peter, smugly grinning, but not at me, at my father.

"I knew it was too good to be true." My father sighed, frustrated.

"Of course it was." Peter replied. "You leaving would mean me failing. And we both know-"

"You never fail, yeah, we know." I muttered, interrupting him. As if he hadn't told us a million times already.

"If you knew then why were you so foolish as to even try?" He smirked, still not looking directly at me.

"You're not getting my daughter, Pan. You can have anything, but not my daughter." I wasn't quite sure if my father was telling him this, or begging of him.

"Unfortunately that wasn't clarified the first time we struck a deal." Peter faked an apologetic smile. "So I'm afraid I'll have to take her back. She belongs to me now. I thought I made that pretty clear." He still wasn't looking at me, but he take a step towards me, and was immidiately interjected by my father.

"Don't. Touch her." My father warned. "There must me be something else you want."

Peter opened his mouth to say something, but then thought twice about it. "There is something else that you could give me."

"I'll give you anything I have."

"Oh, you don't have it yet. But if you want to see your daughter again, you will have to find it." Peter took a step towards me again. This time my father stood still.

"What it is?" He asked. "'Where' is it?"

"I don't know. It could be anywhere, really. Any land." Peter came closer to me, his back to my father. "It won't be an easy task."

"I'll do anything." My father insisted. "Just let my daughter go."

"I will." Peter turned to face him. "When you deliver what I want. Until then-" He grabbed something out of his pocket and before I could even make out what if was, he scratched my arm with it.

"No!" I heard my father cry as I looked down and saw what he had scratched me with. A plant.

"Dreamshade." Peter explained quietly, "you'll be dead within three days."

"What?" I panicked. Dead? It was just a scratch. I looked at my arm and I saw that the wound had already started to worsen.

Before I could say anything, Peter placed a hand round the back of my neck and pulled me closer to him. I wanted to scream but when I opened my mouth, I felt him press a bottle against it, and he forced a liquid down my throat. It tasted like water but I was pretty sure it wasn't.

Once I had drunk enough, he let go of the back of my neck and I stepped back, choking out the transparent liquid.

"What was that?" I gasped, still coughing out the liquid.

"Water." He replied simply. When I looked up at him, I noticed my father had come forth, probably when he saw Peter grab me and expected the worse.

"Why would you force water down my throat?" I asked. "Couldn't you have just asked politely if I wanted some? I might not even have been thirsty." I crossed my arms at him. "And what did you mean by me dying in three days?" That was what worried me the most.

"It's not just any kind of water." Peter grinned. "Hook," I noticed my father's face had hardened. He was mad. Really mad. "You're familiar with this water, are you not?" I frowned. What did that even mean?

"You bastard-" My father started, but was interupted by the bastard.

"It's not going to be like last time though-" And the bastard was interrupted by a really confused me.

"Can we please focus on the part where I'm supposedly dying in three days?" I asked, exhasperated.

"You're not going to die." Peter stated.

"But you just said-"

"You're not going to die. I just gave you the cure." He explained.

"Oh." Phew. "Wait then what was the point in poisoning me in the first place? You just felt like scaring me half to death just for the fun of it?" Bastard.

"Not exactly. Remember when I told you to ask your father what happened the last time he came to Neverland?" I nodded. "Maybe you should have listened to me." Peter kept smirking. He was really enjoying this, wasn't he?

"Would it have prevented any of this if I did?" I raised my eyebrows.

"No, not really."

"Then I'm not interested."

"But you would know what happens if you step foot out of the island."

"Wait, what?" I glanced at my father to see he was red with fury, but also looked scared. I probably should have asked what happened. I'd have rather heard it from him before than Peter now.

"You can't." My father spoke for the first time in a while. His voice was weak. "You can't leave the island. Ever."

"So if I do..." I trailed off.

"You die." Peter finished unnecessarily.

"Thank you captain obvious." I rolled my eyes at him.

"But, if your father manages to find what I want and bring it here to me, I'll get you a cure for the poison and you two can leave Neverland forever."

"There is no cure for dreamshade." My father said. Well that's pessimistic. I did not want to be stuck on this island forever. Especially when I was never going to grow old... I'd be short for all eternity.

"Well you're just going to have to find out, aren't you?" Peter smirked at him. "You don't really have a choice here, captain."

"So that's it then? I'm just supposed to trust you with the most important thing in my life?" He sounded crushed. Defeated.

"Yes. You are." Peter replied simply. "Unless you want her to end up like your brother. The choice is yours." Brother? My uncle? Dad told me he died a hero on one of the voyages he was sent on by order of the king. What did that have to do with me?

"What is it that you want me to bring back to you?" My father asked finally.

Peter smiled wickedly and then snapped his fingers.

And with that, I was surrounded by a puff of smoke and when it went away, I found myself on the beach.

What.

I could see the Jolly Roger in the distance. But I couldn't make out what was going on. Why did Peter magically send me away? Why didn't he want me to know what he was searching for? And why did he go through all this trouble to keep me here alive when he needed me dead? Maybe all of this was a scheme to kill me as soon as my father was gone.

Probably.

My brain kept buzzing with reasons, none of them good, of why he'd keep me here. Normally it would be for insurance so that my father would return. But didn't he need my heart?

"Mya?" A familiar voice separated me from my jumbled up thoughts.

I greeted her with a small wave. "Hi Tink."

Third Person

The deck of the Jolly Roger was pretty crowded at this point, even with Mya gone.

Hook didn't even bother to ask why Peter had sent his daughter away. He wasn't sure if she would be safe. He didn't know why Pan wanted her or why he went through all this trouble to keep her. He just waited patiently for Pan to tell him what if was he wanted so that he could take it to him and get his daughter back.

"Let's get down to business, shall we?" Peter grinned as he pulled out a folded parchment. "This is what, or should I say who, I want you to find."
