Chapter 23: Surprise, surprise
Mya's P.O.V
We kissed. We actually kissed.
Well, technically, I kissed him. But he was just as guilty since he kissed me back.
I wasn't sure what to think, or how to act now that it happened.
I was currently in the tree trunk, lying down on the hammock, trying to get some sleep.
And failing.
My mind kept flashbacking to that moment.
And I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep until I talked to him, asked him if he was just as confused as I was.
But I knew I wouldn't open my mouth on the subject unless he did first. I was stubborn like that.
Third Person
There were many rare ways to travel from land to land, but the most frequently used was through a magic bean.
And Captain Hook knew exactly the tradesman who could provide him with one.
"We're here." He informed Mr. Smee as they stopped in front of a quite ordinary-looking tavern.
Smee nervously took his red beanie off, and fiddled with it. Something Hook recognised he always did when he was nervous.
"You're going to be fine." Hook assured him. "Just remember what I told you."
Smee nodded and placed his hat back on. "Aye, captain." And with that, he entered the tavern.
Contrary to the quiet aspect it had externally, the inside of the tavern was quite riotous. Smee narrowed his eyes trying to spot the person he was told to go to.
Drunken men were arguing with each other at one table, others were playing poker on another, and then, in the darkness, towards the end of the tavern, was a man. Sitting alone.
Smee started to walk to him.
"Are y-you... Black Beard?" He stuttered nervously once he reached the man.
He did indeed have a black beard. His eyes were dark and by the looks of his clothes, he was a pirate.
The man nodded and gestured for Smee to sit down in the empty chair in front of him.
"How can I help you?" He asked. As Smee sat down, he noticed two other men standing besides Black Beard, each on one side. They were big and menacing.
This did not help Smee with his fear of the pirate. He was known to be a cruel man. And for reasons the captain didn't mention, he hated Hook. And the feeling was mutual.
So basically, if he found out Smee had been sent by Hook... Well, Smee was done for.
"I-I came here because-" Smee kept stuttering, unable to form and finish a sentence. "I-I need to travel between lands."
"Ah, do you now?" Black Beard raised one of his thick eyebrows. "And why would that be?"
"Err... To-to escape." Smee finished lamely, having to improvised a lie. Hook hadn't told him what to answer to that question since he hadn't expected Black Beard to care.
"Escape?" Black Beard faked a shocked face. "From what?"
All these questions were increasing the pressure placed on poor Smee, who had started sweating like a pig, and kept restraining himself from removing his beanie.
"Err- Someone. I can't say." Smee muttered, trying to prevent the other man from asking any more questions.
"I see." Black Beard didn't look very convinced. "Well, I can understand why you came to me." He pulled out a small pouch.
"I need-" Smee started, but was interrupted by Black Beard.
"Magic beans. Yes, I know." He pushed the pouch towards Smee. "I have two in my possession at the moment."
"Those are enough." Smee nodded, and started to take the bag when a sword was placed on top of his hand. He immediately looked up. One of the two men with Black Beard had pulled out the sword.
Black Beard smirked. "Apologies for the violent gesture. It's just a precaution." He continued. "You'll have to pay first, of course."
"Of course." Smee repeated, and with his free hand, he reached for the sack of gold coins Hook had given him and placed it on the table.
Black Beard reached for it and opened the sack. Examining its contents, he nodded and the other man lifted his sword.
Smee grabbed the bag with the beans immediately, and started to stand up.
"What's the hurry?" Black Beard asked, still sitting. He knew something was up. "How about a game of cards?" He offered.
Smee shook his head slightly, rejecting the offer. "S-sorry, I have to go." And he hurried towards the exit. Where Hook was waiting.
"Well, that took longer than expected." Hook commented, tired of waiting. "Did you get the beans?"
"Here." Smee handed his captain the pouch. Hook opened it to check if the beans were there. He sighed with relief when they were.
"Good job, Smee." He complimented his crewmember in the red beanie. "Now let's get going." He started to leave, followed by Smee.
"Leaving so soon?" Hook froze as he recognised the voice behind him.
Mya's P.O.V
I woke up, or more like opened my eyes since I didn't actually sleep, just to find the room empty. I honestly didn't expect to find anything, or anyone. But I was still disappointed.
I stood up and exited the tree trunk, not in the mood for breakfast. I was surprised to find that no one was awake yet.
The Lost Boys were sleeping soundly on the ground. I wondered how they even slept there. I doubt it was comfortable.
Peter was nowhere to be seen.
Not that I was looking for him...
Nope... Not at all.
I also checked if Felix was there, since that's who Peter was most likely to be with. But he was also sleeping, his head resting on a tree root.
Where could he be?
I went through every place in my mind but there was only one place I could think of.
Praying I was right, I hiked into the forest.
Third Person
"Black Beard." Hook sighed, turning around with a false grin on his face. "It's been a while."
"Indeed it has." The other pirate agreed. The two men from the tavern were behind him. Each of them had their hands on the hilt of their swords.
"Right... Well, we'll have to catch up another time. I'm rather in a hurry." Hook tried make take a run for it but was stopped by a sword at his throat.
"Ah, not so fast, old friend." Black Beard grinned wickedly. The sword pressed against Hook's throat forced him to turn and face the other pirate. "I admit; you almost fooled me." Black Beard continued. "Sending your friend here to do your dirty work was a smart move. Of course, you could have picked a better liar." Hook glanced at Smee, who also found himself with a sword pointed at him.
"Yes, he does have that small fault." Hook shrugged. "But he completed his task."
Black Beard smiled, showing his teeth. Most of them were just as black as his beard. "I'm curious captain, why would you need magic beans from me?"
"For the same reason everyone else does." Hook replied simply.
"Well, unfortunately, I cannot make business with friends. I'm sure you can understand."
"Ah, but we were never really friends now, were we?" Hook pointed out.
The other pirate grinned. "Exactly."
Hook knew what would happen next, and his hand went directly to his sword, pulling it out at the same time Black Beard pulled out his.
Still having the sword at his throat, Hook slashed his own sword against it, and elbowed the owner of the weapon, pushing him backwards.
The man fell on his back, groaning, and the other one was next. Smee sighed in relief once his attacker hit the ground.
Two down. One to go.
"I hope you're better than your bodyguards." Hook smirked as Black Beard came forwards, confident he could win this, for his daughter.
Without responding, Black Beard raised his sword, and it collided against Hook's. The sound of metal clashing lasted long enough for the two men to rise from the ground.
Hook was far too preoccupied to notice. Fortunately, Smee was prepared to do something about it. He grabbed a glass bottle of rum, which had been left, empty, on the floor, and smashed it on the heads of the two men.
"Nice one, Smee." Hook complimented him, but kept his eyes focused on the sword of his opponent.
Mya's P.O.V
I was right.
Peter was sitting in front of the largest tree in the island, leaning his back against it.
I tip toed behind the tree, ready to sneak up on him as he always did to me. But that didn't work out as planned.
"Morning, Mya." Damn it.
"Urgh, seriously? What does a person have to do to sneak up on you?" I wined, exposing myself from behind the tree.
He laughed. "Good luck with that."
"You'll see. One day, I'll manage." I assured him confidently.
He shook his head, but didn't respond. Instead, he asked. "So, what are you doing here? Couldn't get enough of me already?"
I scoffed. "No." Yes. "I was just… bored."
"Of course you were." I could tell from the way he said that he didn't believe me. "I'm surprised you got up so early."
"Yeah, I'm full of surprises." I smirked, wondering what time it was.
"I've noticed." He smiled. I've hardly ever seen him smile. He usually just grinned or smirked.
"So, why are you up here?" I asked, curiously.
"I just needed to clear my head." He looked away from me.
"From what?" I asked, wondering what he meant. And partly hoping it wasn't because of me.
"Everything." Well... that was specific.
"Ah."
Such a scintillating conversation. And my intense remarks were really doing their part.
There was a moment of silence after that. Which I decided to break; I hated silence. "So, did I, like, interrupt your clearing-of-head procedure or something?"
"Well, yes." Oh. Well then.
"Okay then, I'll just go-" I turned to leave but a hand grabbed my arm, swirling me around,
"I never said I wanted you to leave." He whispered. He was really close now.
I knew we had kissed before but I was still taken by surprise when his lips crashed against mine. I responded, my hands around his neck, pulling him closer.
I almost hoped it wouldn't be as good as the first time. But no, it was better. There was something about kissing him that felt so natural. And that partly scared me. I didn't want this to become anything more than what it was, but at the same time, I did.
Mmm.. Will Hook escape Black Beard? DUNN DUNN
I spent a whole day trying to think who could possibly give them the beans and that's who I came up with.. let's just pretend Black Beard is a pirate who happens to trade people things for money... And.. yeah.
And yes, I have invaded the coffee shop, haha :D Apparently it takes me an hour and a half to drink a coffee...
Have a nice day ! :)
