23. The Lion and the Snake
Even he could not deny her
insatiable – perhaps unintentional –
siren's call.
She became
with Godspeed
a thing he began to hate
With all but choice she was pure;
a woman with pure blood
But they lived in another world:
choices extended beyond the blood
they shared. Even if
it hadn't been hers to carve,
the stone had long since set.
She'd become a forbidden fruit
he longed to grasp
and when the chance came
he grasped it with both hands,
casting away the look of pain
that would come tomorrow
in the burning passionate fire
in that short today.
