24. His Best Friend's Girlfriend

He should have stopped himself long ago:
blind himself to her
but she was like the air that burned
his tongue: everywhere!

If only she hadn't shone
so bright he might've kept his heart
away – no, that could never be the truth!

She was impossible not to miss:
the angel that drew you in,
the fire that scorched when you got
too close

But he was already
too close: if only
they had never met, he
and the man who had brought him
all too close
to her

But that was another unavailability
because, if he hadn't, he'd be caught
in an even deeper and more treacherous web.
