Chapter 35: Old Habits Die Hard
Third Person
It didn't take long for the Shadow to return with news of the boy. And Peter was definitely not surprised at where he was
"It's always the Pirate." He groaned, rolling his eyes. The Shadow hovered before him, silent. "Your work is done." Peter informed it. "For now." Wearily, the Shadow left.
It was no use to send it after the boy again. This time, he had to be more careful. And yet once again, Hook had something that he wanted.
"Felix!" He called out. The Lost Boy appeared not long after.
"Yes, Pan?" Felix asked, curious as to why Peter had summoned him.
"I need you to pay a visit to our dear friend." Pan grinned at him. "The Pirate."
Felix frowned, concerned that this was about the girl. "To what means?" He inquired.
"The boy I sought out. The Shadow informed me that he's in the Pirate's ship." Peter explained. "I need you to go and get him back."
Felix nodded, not bothering to ask Pan why he wouldn't go to the ship himself.
It wasn't unusual for Peter to ask him to do the dirty work. But when it came to the Pirate, he preferred to handle things himself.
Truth was, Peter would have gladly taken matters in his own hands, if it weren't for Mya.
He knew she would be there, judging his every word, his every action.
She wouldn't approve of him taking the boy either way. But this way, he wouldn't have to see that disappointed look on her face when he did.
Mya P.O.V
I decided that if I was ever going to get off this ship, it had to be now. I could almost picture my father snoring in his cabin, peacefully unaware of what his daughter was doing.
I guess I should be considered an expert at sneaking away now, considering the amount of times I've done it.
I guess old habits die hard.
I carefully pulled down the dinghy, attempting not to make too much of a ruckus. Turns out, it was inevitable.
Fortunately, no one seemed to hear.
I jumped onto it, and started rowing my way off to shore.
I knew this was going to earn me a lot of scolding by my father's part, but I had to. At least that's what I told myself.
Yes, I was going to see Peter. But only to demand (most likely beg) that he send Baelfire home. It was clear he wasn't a Lost Boy, and once Peter realized that, he'd let him leave.
Well... It was worth a shot.
Third Person
Hook had a hard time falling asleep that night. Not because of Mya, or Pan. But because of the boy.
He had become suspicious of his origins from the first time he saw him. And when he heard the boy's name, the suspicion was confirmed.
He knew exactly who Baelfire really was. And if he had let Mya question him further, she would too.
He was the Dark One's son.
Milah had mentioned the boy many times before, when they were still together. When she was still alive.
He assumed Mya had forgotten it; she was younger at the time. And children tend not to remember such things.
With everything that had happened, he had almost forgotten his quest for revenge. But by no means had he changed his mind. He was going to let the Dark One pay for what he did. And with Baelfire, he had the upper hand.
Loud banging on the door of his cabin abruptly interrupted Hook's thoughts. "Captain! Captain!" He heard Smee's voice shouting from outside.
Reluctantly, the pirate stood up. He slept fully clothed, since he had learnt from previous experience that problems could arise at any moment. And attending them in his nightclothes was more than embarrassing.
"The Lost Boys! They're here!" Smee cried once Hook exited his cabin. The captain hurried onto the deck, where his crew was already frantically running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and pulled out his spyglass.
Indeed, a dinghy was heading their way.
"Captain, it's the boy. It must be." Smee stated. Hook knew very well it was. But he had no intention of giving them Baelfire. "The sooner we give them what they want, the sooner they leave us alone." Terror was clear in Smee's voice.
"No. I can't part with him now. Not when I know he's the Dark One's son. " Hook replied, his voice firm. "He's the key to my revenge. I won't loose him." He headed towards the foremast but his path was cut by Felix, followed by other Lost Boys leaping aboard the ship.
"We meet again, Pirate." Felix spat, an evil smirk planted on his face.
"It's always a pleasure." Hook replied, smiling a clearly fake smile. "I never thanked you for sparing my life, by the way, that was-"
"Clearly a mistake." Felix finished for him, angry at the pirate's taunting. "We're looking for a boy that was seen adrift nearby." Felix continued, not mentioning the fact they knew very well where he was. "A boy he has a particular interest in."
"I'm afraid I'll have to send you away disappointed." Hook did not look disappointed. "As you can see we're only men here." He gestured to his crew.
Felix narrowed his eyes. "Then you won't mind if we search your ship."
"Be my guest." Hook offered reluctantly.
The Lost Boys headed to towards the cabins, finding nothing. Hook followed them, making sure the boy was out of sight. But when they reached Baelfire's cabin, he wasn't there. Hook restrained a grin. The boy was bright after all.
Felix did not look pleased by this. "It seems we were mistaken."
"It seems you were." Hook grinned, his eyes dancing.
Felix was about to leave when one of the other boys called out to him. "There's another cabin here!"
Felix smirked at Hook, who gave a worried look.
It was Mya's cabin.
Hook knew the boy wasn't going to be in there, but Mya was. And between the both of them, he'd have rather given them the boy.
But when the door to my Mya's cabin was yanked open, it revealed it to be empty.
"No one's here." Another one of the boys commented, looking around.
Hook sighed in relief. Then groaned in anger. Where the hell was she?
Mya's P.O.V
When I reached the island, it was already dawn. What can I say? I'm a slow rower.
I hopped off the dinghy and headed into the forest I should know by heart by now. But I didn't. And there was a ninety-nine point nine chance I'd get lost again, especially if Peter had moved the camp once more.
Fortunately, the small percentage in my favor acted up, and I reached the clearing where the camp still remained. Thank god.
I didn't want to be seen by the Lost Boys, even though most of them were asleep. And I couldn't help but notice they were less than usual. But maybe it was the lack of sleep making me imagine things.
My eyes scanned the camp, checking for Peter. Not seeing him outside, I arrived to the conclusion he would most likely be in his tree trunk home.
Pursuing the perimeter of the camp, hiding behind trees and bushes, I managed to get to the tree trunk without being seen.
And as my spectacular detective skills predicted, Peter was inside, lying on his hammock. I thought he was sleeping, since his eyes were closed. But as soon as I took a step forwards, his mouth opened. "Felix. Back already?"
Felix? Did he send Felix on a mission again?
Aha! I knew there were fewer boys than usual.
By then my mind was too full of questions to actually produce a smart plan so I ended up mustering the manliest voice I could produce. "Uh… Yeah."
Yeah… Brilliant move.
Peter's eyes shot open and he was standing in front of me within a space of time I did not think was possible. "Mya?" He raised his eyebrow.
I guess my cover was blown now anyways. You know, unless Felix looked like a seventeen-year-old girl. "…Hi."
"You came back." He looked surprised. As if he didn't expect me to return.
By instinct, I moved towards him and wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him. Startled, I felt him tense, but he soon returned the hug, wrapping his arms around my waist.
"I said I would. Didn't I?" I said as I let go of him, grinning. He smiled back. "But," I added, "I'm also here because I need to ask you something."
"And here I thought you came back because you cared." He smirked.
"Hey, I said also." I pointed out. "It's about Baelfire." I continued.
His smirk slowly disappeared. "Who?" He looked genuinely confused. But I knew how good a liar he was.
I scowled. "Don't play dumb. I know you sent your Shadow to bring him here."
"I send my Shadow to bring a lot of Lost Boys here." He shrugged.
"Exactly. Lost Boys." I emphasized. "He isn't a Lost Boy. He doesn't belong here."
"If he's here. There's a reason." Peter insisted. "Your father should probably return him to me. Unless he wants to repeat that near-death situation."
"Peter, let Bae leave." I begged him. "He has a family. People who care for him."
He stared at me, and I tried to keep his gaze, but he avoided it, looking down. "I can't."
I took a step forwards, ignoring the urge to slap him in the face to shake some sense into him. But that would get me nowhere.
I lifted his face up gently with my hand, forcing him to look at me. "You're better than this." I whispered. "Please let Baelfire go back home."
His eyes were dark, unreadable. I hated it. I hated not knowing what he was thinking.
But he let me know soon enough. "I'm sorry, Mya." He pulled away from my hand and gave his back to me. "You should go back to your father now."
I shook my head, though he couldn't see me. "That's it?" I exclaimed. "I came back for this."
He turned to look at me again. "This is who I am." He argued. "If you don't like, leave."
"Is that what you want?" I inquired, raising my voice. "For me to leave? Because that's not what it sounded like the last time."
"If your stay means that you'll spend every moment trying to change me, then yes." His words stung as he spoke them, making me wince.
I didn't want this. Maybe my father was right after all. "Fine." I snapped. "But don't expect me to come back. Ever." I stormed out of the tree trunk, without looking back.
I noticed Felix arrive into the camp, as I left, no longer trying to maintain my presence a secret. He was followed by a group of lost boys. None of them were Bae. I sighed in relief.
Felix scowled at me as he saw me. I scowled in return.
The good news was: Felix didn't get Baelfire.
The bad news was: Peter was an asshole.
Oh wait, that wasn't news. That was common knowledge.
I feel like I'm heading to that awkward direction in which things just keep repeating over and over because of lack of inspiration.
I mean... Urgh. I don't want to make Peter asshole-y, but I want to stay true to the character (since I completely screwed up the main plot lol)
SO I'M ASKING YOU.
Do you want Peter to be.. well, Peter, or do you want Mya to change him because I have no idea. I don't want to change him cause Peter is awesome and it would suck if he went soft.. but idk. SO HELP ME.
...
Also, CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW EPIC 6x01 WAS LIKE SERIOUSLY. MY CAPTAIN SWAN FEELS. AND ELSA. AND POOR REGINA. AND MIRROR. AND... ELSA!
I'll go off crying in a corner because of how epic all that was now... bye.
