26. The Rush

She was a thrilling dragon ride:
different every turn –
like Bertie Bott's
Every Flavour Beans, he had
once said to her:

Her laughter became a thing he treasured
all the more.

His crazy tales made her heart thump
against her chest:

An evocative rhythm that flashed
dizzying colours before her eyes.

A wild girl
and an even wilder boy:
they weren't good for each other,
they said, but a match
made in heaven? That was true.

Their rides grew ever wilder
with her and him together

But it was a dragon-rush, they
laughed together.

A dragon-rush –
that thing that came with no regrets.
