A/N: Written for the Pairing Set Bootcamp challenge, 29. Draco/Harry and for the Freeverse Frenzie competition, poem 121.
Experimented a bit with the poetry style too. Didn't quite work; I was planning only one stanza. :D Maybe next time.

31. Between Enemies
Poison from each other's fangs
dripped into their every drop
of coagulating blood – blood
that gurgled its way past valves
and plaques choking the liquid life
in its restraints. And yet the poison
slipped past, forced itself through walls –
left walls behind, so that the sentinels
could not follow to take its place. And
the poison spread, spread like a wildfire
catching on dry grass, and ate the pair
within, so the only love they could
ever share together…was that, that
horribly twisted reality they'd created
together.
If only the poison hadn't taken root,
but for that they'd both have bled out
before they understood.
