I don't own Divergent.

Hi. I know this is uncharacteristically short, even for me, but I'm behind on Camp and have some more family stuff to deal with. Anyway, speaking of Camp, please check out my FanFic profile and look at/donate to my fundraising page for Camp NaNo (which, by default, donates to regular NaNo). I know I'm not supposed to solicit or anything, but donating to Camp benefits a ton of people that want to participate in Camp and NaNo for free. Camp and NaNo help young, and older, writers develop their skills with pep talks and winner gifts (things like a free editor for a novel, etc.) that have to be paid for. Please think about it and check it out and maybe donate. If every person that views this chapter donates even a dollar, we'd have a shit ton of money to donate. That would go a long way. Please at least check the link on my profile out. It's legit - I'm not scamming for money. Hell, I don't know how to scam for money.

Rob steps up and cuts him off, saying, "Hey, Uriah. I'm Robert - Rob, really."

Uriah smiles hesitantly at him and offers a hand. "I'm Uriah." Then he reddens and curses. "You knew that, though."

Rob shakes it. "No problem, man. I was watching you in the field today..."

Rob and Uri chat in our living room while Tobias and I make some dinner. Tobias makes pasta and coffee while I whip up a tomato sauce. While they cook, Tobias wraps himself around me from behind.

He nuzzles my neck. "I love you."

I kiss his cheek. "I love you, too."

I add meatballs to the sauce and Four dishes the pasta and sauce up. I pour cups of his coffee and put our sugar, milk, cinnamon, and caramel out. We put the dishes on the table and call Uri and Rob in.

"Post-game dinner is served," we inform them.

"Thanks," says Uri, sitting and digging into the food.

"Yeah," Rob echoes, fixing his coffee and taking much more civilized bites of pasta.

"No problem," we chorus, sitting down for our own meal.

"So, Uri," I begin, "how do you like Rob?"

Though he has a mouthful of pasta and meatballs, he nods eagerly and motions good. Rob chuckles. "I like you, too, Uriah. We should go on a real date sometime."

Uriah nods and swallows a few times. "Sounds good. Thanks, Tris."

I grin. "I'm happy for the both of you." I feel Tobias' hand on my leg. "Uri, when are you and Zeke going to have that barbeque?"

Uriah's face drops. "Shit. Zeke. I need to go talk to him."

That kind of ends our night. Uriah leaves, Robert in tow, and Tobias and I clean up and head to bed. To prevent any fighting or scarring in the house, we have a quiet, non-sexual night of sleep.

The next day, I stay home with a mostly-better AJ and Tristan and Hayden while Tobias is at practice and my parents speak with the leaders of the Insurgents and Allegiants. AJ still sleeps, but I entertain Hayden and Tristan for a while, helping them with a puzzle, helping them back their mom cookies, letting them watch a little Discovery channel, giving them lunch, and finally putting them down for a nap at about twelve forty five. Tobias gets home at two to me sitting on the couch with AJ on my lap asleep. He lifts him and carries him to his bedroom, presumably tucking him in.

"Hey, love," he gruffly says to me, kisses my cheek. "How were they?"

I shrug. "Pretty good. AJ's been sleeping a lot."

Tobias nods. "And how's my favorite girl?"

"Bro, I your only girl," I tease.

Tobias picks me up. I hang my head back. "How do you know?" he asks, kissing my head.

I touch his cheek. "I love you, Tobias."

He walks up to our room. "Mmm. I love you too." He grins and strips his shirt off. "Wanna take a shower?"

I pat his chest. "You're horny from a lack of sex, aren't you?" At his nod, I walk by him and add, "Not today, babe. I don't want the kids waking up and getting scared."

He sighs. "Okay. Are you coming to the game tonight? I'm pitching."

I smile. "Of course, Tobias."

Tobias and the Yankees win against the Mariners, one-zero. Both teams played hard, but the Mariners didn't have Hernández today.

Tobias slings an arm around me after the game and kisses me. "We won." He grins.

I see Zeke sitting in the dugout, face in hands. "Shh," I urge Tobias. "You're making Zeke jealous."

Tobias rolls his eyes. "So?"

"So it's mean, Tobias Eaton," I hiss. "Stop it!"

He huffs but quiets down and goes to shower.

I meet him again outside, and we return home to a late dinner with my parents, who cooked a meal for us.

"Hey, Mom," I say, sitting down next to Tobias. "Hi, Dad. How was the meeting? Did you plan any raids?"

My mom smiles at me. "It went well."

I give them a suspicious glance. "And?" They always told me what happened in their Divergent meetings. I am a part of the group.

Dad sighs. "And -" he glances at Tobias "- and nothing."

Tobias sighs and pushes his bowl of soup away from him. "I'm not stupid," he snaps. "I can see that you two are withholding information from Tris because I'm here. So I'm going to go." He glares at me and practically stomps up the stairs.

I glare at my parents. "C'mon, guys, did you have to be so -" I stopped. Dad's eyes, his face, were pained. "Dad, what happened?"

"We made emergency arrangements for if something were to happen to us because of Eaton," he explains. "You and Caleb would take over the Divergents. You'd have to move to Chicago."

"What about the Insurgents and Allegiants?" I find myself asking.

"Well, you know Tori and George Wu are the head of the Insurgents, right? Well, Tori has a kid with Bud, her husband. His name is Maxton. He'll take over. The Allegiants will be taken over by the niece of Johanna Reyes, Jada," Dad says.

I nod slowly. Then I say, "Dad, you know that Caleb and I aren't exactly, um, trained fully to do this job."

He nods. "We need you to come back to Chicago for a few weeks soon, honey, and we'll train the both of you."

I scowl. "Can you wait at least till the season's over?"

Dad sighs and looks at me, eyes pained. "Probably." Mom gets up and starts to clear the dishes, Tobias' and my father's included. "We'll be leaving in a few days, Bea. We're going to try to stay off the grid, so we'll have Caleb contact you."

I nod and hug my dad. "I love you."

"We love you, too." Mom joins our hug and then pushes me towards the stairs. "Now go talk to your man."

I sigh and look wearily up the stairs. I set my shoulders and go to our room, where Tobias is not. I continue into our bathroom, where he leans over the sink, hands gripping the sides viciously. He's shirtless.

I place my hands on his shoulders and gently massage him.

"Don't, Tris."

"Tobias, they're really stressed. They weren't trying to be mean." I rub my temple with one hand and return it to his shoulder. "They have a lot of people they need to keep safe, myself, AJ, you, and my brother included. They're doing the best they can. They just don't want to involve anyone that doesn't have to be involved."

"He's my father, Tris!" Tobias is raising his voice. I'm sure my parents will be able to hear us. "He hates me! I'm as much a part of this as you, because he has no qualms hurting me or people I care about. He'll enjoy hurting you and me. He'll enjoy hurting any semblance of a family we have, because he hates me and he hates your family. I am already a part of this, so don't act like I'm an innocent little bystander that you need to protect."

"Tobias, we do have to protect you," I say, my voice rising like his. "Even if you are involved in this, you don't need to know everything. It's safer if you don't. Only Caleb, my parents, and I really should." I sigh and pace away from him slightly. "Look, Tobias. You are AJ's father now. This of it like this: What would you do to protect him? You'd do everything in your power without letting him know what you're doing. You'd want to keep him innocent. That's what my parents are trying to do - and not only with you. They haven't told me or Caleb everything, either."

Tobias growls in frustration. He knows I'm right, and it kills him. "Whatever." And he stalks off to go to bed. I get ready for bed, too, and go back into our bedroom, sitting for a moment next to where he pretends to sleep, facing away from my side. I kiss his head and let my palm linger on his cheek a moment extra. "I love you, Tobias. I hope my family and I don't let you get hurt in all of this."

He doesn't reply, so I slip into the bed next to him and cuddle up to him from the back. He doesn't acknowledge me. I sigh, kiss his head from behind, and drift off to sleep.
