38. In the Wind

They were both a flighty pair
and danced together on the winds

No matter which way they blue:
north or west,
south or east,
they danced from morning till noon

Under the shining daffodils in the sky
that poured pollen all round –
they raced after the pollen birds
and other beasts aside.

They laughed together, even if he
was far older than her, because
they had the same heart inside:
open, happy little butterflies,
wings yet unclipped

And the pair of them could fly through the fields
as though they didn't have any feet
until the winds died down
and they'd stand
in the silence
together.
