Teru had been blatantly avoiding Sumino ever since she had told him that things were smoothing out with Hinata. She figured that he was trying not to get in the way of their relationship, but the problem was that her relationship with Hinata was far worse than it had ever been. Sumino had finally come to realize that Hinata truly didn't care for her anymore.

Sumino honestly didn't know what to do, a big part of herself was telling her to break up with Hinata, but another, nicer, part of her thought that would be rude. Back and forth she paced outside the classroom door, hopelessly trying to decide what to do. Sumino eventually decided that she would talk to Hinata before lunch.

The distraught girl stood, afraid, outside the student council room, she truly didn't wish to face Hinata. Sumino started panicking in her head and turned to walk away from the door, thinking it'd be best not to confront him. But something made her stop, knowing that walking away was not the answer. If she didn't do this now, she would never gather the courage to do something like this again.

"It's now or never," she muttered to herself resolutely.

Sumino slowly opened the door, and found herself staring into Hinata's unrelenting eyes.

"Sumino, I'm glad you're here," he started neutrally, "There's something I want to talk to you about."

Sumino responded shyly, telling him that she wished to speak to him as well. The brunette found herself waiting for Hinata continue his train of thought.

A few minutes passed before he finally started again.

"Sumino, I don't think our relationship has been working out recently, for either of us," he looked her straight in the eye as he continued, "I think it'd be best if we just stayed friends."

Hurt spread through her chest at his words, staring blankly at Hinata. Sumino finally nodded as she was at loss for words. Even though this was what she wanted, it still stung to hear those words coming from him. She hurriedly stood up and reached for the door, leaving the room as quickly as she possibly could, trying to fight back a few tears.

Teru usually ate lunch on the roof; he enjoyed the peace and quiet it provided him. Sumino knew that better than anyone.

She knew her relationship with Teru wasn't exactly the best at the moment, but he was the only person she could turn to.

The young girl climbed the steps that lead to the roof, dreading the moment she would reach the door. Thinking with every step that she should turn back and just leave Teru out of it.

When she reached the top, her doubts faded as she noticed Teru leaning up against the wall eating pocky. He instantly noticed her presence, turning to smile at her.

"Long time no see," Teru spoke casually, as if nothing had ever happened to their friendship, "What brings you here?"

Sumino was more than happy to see that Teru was back to his normal, carefree self. She felt confident now that she could tell him what happened.

"H-hinata broke up with me," Although there was a tone of sadness and definitely some hurt in her voice, Sumino knew that she really didn't feel all that broken up over Hinata.

Teru motioned for her to come sit beside him, Sumino smiled thankfully at the invitation before moving to sit with him.

Teru stared at her with a weird look for a moment before saying, "I know what would make you feel better," He smiled before continuing, "We should play the pocky game, it'll help you get over your feelings about Hinata."

Sumino stared at him in total confusion; Teru noticed this and proceeded to explain the game.

"We each bite an end of a pocky stick," He pulled one out to show her and then continued, "Then we each keep eating away at it. The first person to let go of the pocky loses. Simple enough right?"

Teru had really just wanted to play the game so he would have an excuse to kiss her. Sumino blushed as she comprehended what would happen if they played.

"If we do that then won't we…" her voice trailed off, not wanting to say it out loud.

"Kiss?" Teru guessed, "I guess you can say that, it's only a game though so it doesn't mean anything. Are you saying you don't want to kiss me, 'cause I remember a time when you asked me to."

Sumino's face flushed bright red at the memory, not wanting to argue any further she agreed to play with him.

Teru put the pocky in his mouth and Sumino hesitantly bit the other end of it. Together they each ate away at their end. When they finally got within an inch of each other's faces Sumino panicked and pulled away.

"Sumino…" Teru groaned annoyed.

"I-I'm sorry, I panicked okay. Let's try again…"

Sumino's face was an even brighter red as Teru pulled out another stick of pocky.

Once again, they slowly moved closer and closer. Her heart raced to a tempo that couldn't be healthy, but she hardly noticed that. All she could think about was Teru's lips slowly descending upon hers. After what seemed like an eternity, she felt his lips graze hers in a feather light touch. Sumino froze in sheer panic and instinctively slapped Teru hard across the face.

"Ow!" he yelped in pain, holding a hand up to his cheek, "What was that for?!"

Sumino's eyes widened as she realized what she had just done. She frantically apologized over and over again, moving his hand from his face so she could inspect it herself. She noted that his cheek was an angry red from the hit.

"I'm so sorry Teru, I don't know what came over me," She looked directly into his eyes when she spoke to him. She quickly looked down and muttered "I guess... I just got nervous because I've never kissed anyone before…" her voice quietly trailed off.

Teru didn't give a response, instead he leaned forward and gently pressed his lips to hers. Sumino's heart completely stuttered and her eyes widened as she felt Teru kiss her. The kiss was short and sweet, but it was more than enough.

Teru pulled away just enough to whisper in her ear, "Now you don't have to worry about it anymore."

With that, he got up and left the roof.

Sumino vaguely heard the bell ring, but she was too numb to move from her spot or to really even care that she'd be late. She had come to terms with her rather conflicting feelings for Teru long ago, but she'd never known if they were returned. But now... now she was just more confused than ever.

Part of her wanted to ask Megapig for advice, but she didn't even know how to bring that up, let alone what to ask him. Sumino didn't know how she was ever going to face Teru after this. Even when he had abandoned her on the roof in a state of shock, all she could think of was his soft lips gently moving against hers, and how warm that one kiss made her feel. How could she face him when all she could think about was that kiss?

Sumino leaned further back against the wall, resting her head against the brick. She felt the burning sting of the oncoming tears and covered her eyes with a shuddering sigh. Her life just seemed to be getting more and more complicated by the day.
