She was just their guide
but he'd lost his way with her
and was now tangled in the thorns.

It didn't help that she still looked
to be so young.

Maybe it was just because her sister
had aged fast beyond her years,
but he thought even his sister looked
a year older than her.

She just smiled and said
it had nothing to do with her,
but he didn't think that was
and he searched and thought
an answer to explain it all.

He found it in the end,
found it in the magic they didn't share:

The bodies wrapped in gold
and protected by spirits
that weren't clinging ghosts.
