53. Breaking Down

Their likeness and enmity
would never meet an end.

It was etched too deeply into fate.

That they'd be close enough to touch
save for the barrier in their heart.

If only that barrier could break
but destiny would not be fooled;
she refused to let the forbidden fruits
behind it grow

And they floundered, they fought,
they came close enough and failed
to touch their hands, before snapping away
again, and again
until the stone gate between them grazed
their hands till they bled

And not if they'd been born together
in another world,
they could have truly touched

Because that wall that separated their hearts
would not fall from destiny.
