67. Going Home
Home was such a funny little word, he thought. He was going
not towards home, like they told, but away. His home was here;
they were sending him away, to that foreign place he'd lived
for eleven years – and yet, they called it his home.
How could he tell them it wasn't? He had made his nest another place,
in this year he'd spent. That other place had been home only
because there had been nothing better to which he could give that name,
but now he had a place: this place – to call his home, and they called
it otherwise.
School and home were not to be confused, it seemed
but he had already made one of those
