69. Problems

They weren't Romeo and Juliet
or any sort of elegant fairytale couple
like that

But there was still that friction between them:
that war between families, between names
that threatened to tear them apart

And so they'd tried to keep their secret
as long as they could –
but they couldn't
forever
and so they'd had to speak.

His had been more understanding than hers
but still less than they'd expected: they'd underestimated
the hurt that came from people wars

But his family did accept her in the end,
unlike hers.
