74. Breakup

He didn't want to break up with her
because he knew he was in love with her

But, really, what other choice was there?
He'd basically stapled a target sign to her back
and he had to get rid of it, now, before it was hit
and all he had left of her
was a memory

And she knew it too, so he didn't have to pretend
he hated her, and she loved him too

But they both had to tuck their love away now
(because they'd been oh so foolish before
in showing the world)

Because he wasn't willing to sacrifice life for love;
he was going to keep her safe if it killed his heart.
