Character Poems: the Chosen through Time
14. Maniko Ruki

It was impossible before
but now it was nothing more than child's play
for her.

The trophy in her hands was meaningless:
too smoothly won,
too polished to have raw strength,
raw value

And she'd throw it down
if it wasn't stuck to her hands.
It was worthless after all
if he wasn't there for her to defeat

And when he does show up, late, flashing about
she's bitter, because he's better
and she can't deny it forever

And she doesn't, because somewhere along the line
she realises it's not worth it.

The trophy is nothing, yes,
but she has something
and she can squash her pride
if it means a friend like him.
