Character Poems: the Chosen through Time
21. Kanbara Takuya
He wanted an adventure
but he got a little more
than he bargained for.
He burned too brightly,
too enthusiastically,
he was still wet behind
the ears from childhood.
His eyes were still
half closed
And it was a hard,
heavy blow that
opened them, wide –
too wide, for they stung for a while after,
leaving him blind
But the world was far more clear
once he'd blinked it all away –
and even the water behind the ears
and dried and fallen off
And thereafter he was easier to look upon, to be
followed by butterflies seeking flame.
