Character Poems: the Chosen through Time
23. Himi Tomoki
He was still a child
who went starry-eyed at the sight of a hero
and shook his knees at danger
And cried – God, he cried to much
but he tried to push them aside,
tried to stop his knees clacking together,
tried to change
And along the way he realised something else:
he had never been a coward; no, that wasn't his fault
at all, but rather he simply didn't understand
How to be a friend
And what to do when one stood in the face of fear:
it didn't do to cry, for that did nothing in the end.
It didn't do to throw a punch
at that bully's face
because then
how different was he
from them.
Instead, there were other ways to help
and to fight: to be kind
and help without strings attached.
