The portal was cool, tingling. The dark blue, almost black, sent shivers through Kaito. It was a familiar feeling. Crisp, calming.
When he opened his eyes, he was standing at the bottom of what he knew was a lake. The imp servant had told him of this body of water that the portal to Earth would lead him to. He just had to walk in a single direction until he went uphill onto land. And so he did.
As he emerged from the lake, he realized he was in the middle of a city.
He was completely dry, walking from the lake. He reached the edge, standing there, looking around. There were lots of people. But mostly, Kaito went unnoticed. They were all watching each other, their little screens in their hands, driving their vehicles and walking their animals. They all had ashen gray souls glowing dimly under their skin.
Disappointing.
But wait. One of the humans was coming towards him. They seemed to be male, following a little path that passed right by the lake. The male human was wearing a strange suit and rode on a two wheeled contraption, moving quickly. Kaito saw him glowing white and he got closer and closer.
The Demon Prince stepped out in the way of the path and brought the bike to a sudden stop. The man nearly fell over but Kaito caught him around the neck. He pressed their lips together, and when that happened, the man's soul began to slip down Kaito's throat. It took a mere three seconds for the soul to be sucked out and the man's body went limp. It was then thrown aside, landing half-way in the lake.
Splash.
Kaito made his way into the city; the number was the only thought in his mind.

There had to be more. He was walking, glancing from side to side, pushing his way past people with souls that would soon be in hell. In such a dirty town, Kaito longed for something clean. The souls around him were all dirty, broken, or barely stitched together.
And then, through the grime, he saw a glimmer of hope. A simple white shine that grew brighter the closer he got. He was growing impatient now and began to walk faster towards this one white being.
But it wasn't just one. A small shop tucked into a corner held four white beings inside, he could see them through the window. They were eating some kind of sweet, as far as Kaito could tell. He licked his lips in anticipation.
When checking the security footage later, the police found it had all been blurred out, like the recorder had been overtaken by some sort of malfunction. They saw the door open, the blur, and then the door closing, and everyone in the ice cream shop was left dead. There were no prints in the place, and there was no blood. For a split second, an officer said he thought he could see a face in the blur, but none of the other officers noticed.
Something else they also didn't notice was a tub of ice-cream missing.
