I am so, so sorry that I haven't updated in so long but here is an update at last for you. Moving back home was hectic and for various reasons I didn't manage to find time to write in my new routine but now it has quietened down a fair bit so with any luck, I'll be back to update as often as before if not more often.
Anyway, let me know what you think of the chapter!
AN: I own nothing
The man swore and threw himself into one of the threadbare chairs scattered around the room. Dust rose into the air and the other men struggled not to cough as it joined the curtain of dust enveloping the room already. There was hardly any light in the room as the dirt covering the windows blocked out most of the light. This has led to many an occasion where many of the men had found their feet going through one of the many holes in the floorboards. Flooing in was virtually impossible in this place as the wooden floor and walls ignited at the smallest spark so, apparition was the only way and one person always found one of their legs halfway through the floor on arrival due to the holes. It was a treacherous environment and it always served as a reminder to them that putting a foot wrong was dangerous for them literally and metaphorically.
Rubbing his face and raking his fingers through his hair, the man ran through what had occurred moments before. As silence ruled the room, the others hovered nervously around waiting for him to say something. They discretely held their wands in their hands, which were hidden under their pitch black robes, ready to throw up a shield should he decide to cast a hex in their direction or ignite their surroundings with a spark. It had been made abundantly clear to them that failure wasn't an option and today certainly wasn't a success. This was not the news anyone wanted to pass on to their superior. It was for this reason that the men did not envy the man's current predicament.
They had fired hex after hex at the Mudblood but it had all been in vain. She had proven herself to be a worthy opponent and had escaped to the other side of the wards completely unharmed before they could close in on her. The men had been told that the Mudblood would eventually leave her various safe havens that she had in the Wizarding World. Her flat had been warded to the extreme, so much so that they couldn't actually find it. The most they managed to achieve was in locating her building. They had been quite surprised at only been able to reach this point, as even after gaining entry to her building they had quickly been encircled in a never-ending maze, which ultimately led them back to the entrance. There had been a point a few weeks ago where they were seconds from grabbing her, but a hysterical witch had gotten there first and caused the Mudblood to flee to her flat before they could carry out their plan, which they had planned down to the last detail save the one that occurred. If they hadn't all taken an unbreakable vow upon joining, they would have believed that they had a spy in their midst.
At least with her now being at Hogwarts there was the possibility that they could grab her, as the wards didn't always reach the Forbidden Forest. . The Mudblood had barely been there are few days before she wandered beyond the wards just asking to be grabbed. The men had struggled to contain their excitement as they saw the witch wandering along the path, oblivious to her surroundings. They bided their time, waiting in the darkness the forest provided and waited until she had gotten far enough from the wards to facilitate her capture. However, it was clear that her ability to fight hadn't been neglected following the end of the war. They had been informed of her quick reflexes but hadn't realised how quick they really were. And so Hex after Hex was fired but still she got away! It was frustrating and embarrassing and they really couldn't afford to make a mistake the next time they tried to capture the mudblood.
"We need a better plan."
The man's voice echoed around the once silent room. The others' heads rose up and they stood to attention, ready to serve.
"We underestimated this Mudblood. I was told not to, but it is quite easy to do with such an inferior being. Next time she leaves the wards we need to attack with much greater force and finesse. We have lost the element of surprise now and so, different tactics will need to be employed. We have already lost one of the cause in order to free our great leader and we cannot afford anymore losses as our superior will not tolerate our lack of success for much longer."
The men nodded in response and replied with the one phrase that they knew would never fail to disappoint and reaffirm their support for the cause and their leader.
"In puritatis iterum resurgimus
"The Dark One appreciates your support."
In purity, we rise again. - In puritatis iterum resurgimus
