90. Old Flame
Once upon a time they'd been the perfect pair
from fairytales
but that had crumbled
like the sweet bite of fruit that lodged itself
in Eve's small throat;
He'd choked on his forbidden peace
and that once upon a time flame
had ended in smouldering ash.
He still loved her,
and somewhere, he thought
she loved him as well
But the delicious fruit that was their pair
had whittled away to the pit
and only slivers of meat remained
where his desiring teeth scraped stone
instead of tender love.
That old flame had gone out
and she wouldn't light it again for him;
he'd pushed away their chance
to stay together.
