92. Those Older Days

In the distant past they could be innocent little kids
chasing kite tails in the teasing breeze
where the sky wasn't murky and dull with smog
and there was no blood in the soil

But times had by far changed
and the innocence of youth had died away;
those times when they'd played together
that seemed to stretch out to eternity
had died away.

They'd never thought an end would come
to those times; they'd thought it'd be forever
but not even the strongest glue could stop
those single ties being pulled tight.

They could only trip and stumble
in two different directions, wishing
they could stay together
and stay in love.
