102. Accidentally in Love
They were both in love with other people
when they first went out.
It was like an agreement: a shared contract
they'd both signed – their agency, their hearts
to others, but their bodies to each other
for a ball, and yet, somehow, they'd managed
to fall in love for real…
And it had been foolish to think
they'd come away without a scratch.
They were faithful; they wanted to be faithful
but now they were both trapped in two lives:
apart…and with each other.
The rain from the north showered them in lukewarm
rain; it wasn't the freezing south to snap them back
to reality, but to muddle them even more.
Wasn't it supposed to be colder up north?
Or had their world somehow turned upside down;
it seemed they had, because they'd scrambled up
the little net of love
And there wasn't even a convenient little shelf
to dump the unwanted feelings in.
