104. Being a Fool

They were both in love with other people
but danced together, arm in arm,
fingers skimming an embrace
as their skin burnt too warm
for having that forbidden torch too close –

They'd need aloe vera to soothe the burns
but they didn't stop dancing
together, denying he saw someone else in his arms,
she saw someone else holding her
because they both liked the other, a lot
but there was someone in the back of their minds:
an old burning flame
that wouldn't stop peeling away patches of worn skin
because they'd touched another woman, another man…

They liked each other
so they could try and force themselves to fall in love
and who knew? Maybe, deep down,
they were in love with each other as well as that other flame.
